Description

With a maximum weight of 165 g, the Sirocco helmet sets a new standard for lightness. The one-piece construction minimizes helmet weight while retaining excellent impact resistance, due to the mechanical properties of expanded polypropylene (EPP). The textile adjustment system also contributes to its lightness. This helmet comes with a magnetic buckle which allows the chinstrap to be fastened with one hand. The Sirocco helmet also has excellent ventilation distributed around the helmet.

I have not used the helmet in the field yet but it is so light that you don't even feel it on your pack or on your head. I bought this to have an "always carry" helmet for off trail scrambling in the mountains. I have a Black Diamond hardshell helmet but I left it at home most of the time due to its weight. This one ways half of the Black Diamond so no reason at all to not carry it on all outings where you might need head protection. The main compromise that I can see over a traditional helmet is that the adjustability and padding are not quite as good. Also the straps are quite a bit thinner than normal. That said the magnetic buckle is a cool feature that really works. The reason I could not give 5 stars - the helmet is ugly and I wish it came in another more subdued colour. The orange is way too bright for my tastes. I wish they had a grey or black version!! If you are looking for a light, super-durable helmet (I already did the "stand test" on it!!) this is your next helmet. ... show more

    • Great ultralight helmet
Great ultralight helmet. The EPP (Expanded Polypropylene) is pretty interesting. It has held up to general cragging and multipitch climbing fine so far. So light and comfortable that when its time to eventually retire this helmet I'm confident I'll buy the same thing or whatever the latest model of this same style is at the time. I have seen people stand on this helmet. Its really more durable that you would first think. Watch videos of Petzl's testing of it. Normal stickers don't stick to it very well. At least not as well as they stick to normal hard or semi-hard shelled climbing helmets. SOLAS grade retro-reflective adhesive tape works pretty well however, good for making you more visible at night, its very high efficiency, so it does not take very much. ... show more

Good ultralight helmet. Sizing is OK. Helmet is not super durable but the foam it made of is pretty stiff and forgiving for light impact.
