Looks great. Took an hour 5 min to assemble. Only made two mistakes/corrections (feet attached to floor in middle - didn't understand picture, put floor boards in upside down at first). Otherwise, easy to assemble. It is lighter assembled than box is. It is put together with only a few screws so maybe I should add more screws to make it more sturdy (if i can get time to soon...) because unsure if it will hold up for years to come outside in the elements... hope so! It was worth it. Let's see if the dogs like. Love the door flap for insulation. Floor seems sturdy. Roof is awesome like shingles, waterproof. Smells beautiful, like pine ❤️. Item came during estimated time at earlier guesstimate. Unboxing was easy, items were properly labeled, and hard ware was conveniently organized (see photo for reference). Instructions were clear and images were sufficient. Assembly was easy as a solo project but ensure the roof is in their grooves prior to installation. Total assembly solo took about an hour. I purchased this dog house as a replacement to one that I had that was way too big and heavy, that I couldn't move easily. This house has been a very good replacement for my 55 lb Husky. Other than the lid hinges, it was relatively easy to put together. We couldn't get hinges installed easily so we just decided to leave them off all together. A little disappointed in that part of it. Otherwise, the house looks great (super cute) but it is a little on the thin side as far as the material goes (especially considering the price of it). However, Simba loves to jump up on the roof to get a better view of her surroundings and she has plenty of room to move around when she wants to go inside. Additionally, the door being off centered helps to keep her dry if the rain is blowing in a bit. The house seems to hold together very well and seems sturdy (despite what other reviews have stated) even with her jumping up on top of it, there is no sign of it falling apart or breaking down at all. I’m a repeat customer. This is one of my 2 favorite outdoor houses and, being a cat lady, I’ve tried probably 6 different types over the years. (The other top pick is Kitty Tube which is great if your cat is slim-ish + is willing to enter a narrow opening... neither of which apply to our current outdoor cat.) (I try out multiple products, keep the few we like the best, and give away the rest.) I’m pretty sure this particular cat will need to have the plastic flap off because it’s quite stiff/ thick and this is not a very pushy-dominant cat. I’ll try later, but I doubt he will. It’s cold & windy and the cat climbed in soon after I built it. I didn’t notice chemical smells as I built it. I like how it’s raised from the ground (it rains here in the Pacific NW), the lid has water repellant roofing material, the entrance is wide, the lid lifts up, I’m able to build it myself, it’s sturdy but not heavy so I can move it as needed by myself, and the roof (despite the slant) has historically also been used for cats to lay upon, also. I use a ($15-20) Therm-A-Rest Ridge Rest Classic Foam Camping Sleep Mat (regular 72”x20”) to line the right + bottom + left walls to bouce the cat’s warmth back to him plus a Best Friends cat cuddler bed. ... show more

This is an update. My original review is below. Just shy of two years old the roof is coming apart. Given the money spent on this plus the time and effort putting it together I'd hoped it would last a long time. The other reviews are pretty accurate. I'd give 4.5 stars if I could, but I can't quite give 5. First the negative. The wood is thinnish, but not as thin as I feared. There was a spot where the wood had splintered a tiny bit, but I pressed it back into place The paint is very thin and I plan to put a coat of polyeurathane on to extend the life of the doghouse. Since the walls are thinnish with a tiny gap between the boards in one spot and a slatted floor, I wouldn't use this to shelter a dog from the cold. But I'm very happy with this dog house for the price! I got the medium which is perfect for my 23 pound, energetic mini-schnoodle. I assembled it myself with the screw driver and instruction card that were in the box in about an hour and 15 minutes. I did have to apply a little pressure to get some of the screws in. I found the instructions easy to follow. You might want to position the dog house before you put the roof on because it's awkward to move without help once that's done. The house seems quite sturdy to me! There are two feet in the middle of the medium for extra support. I hung out in there with my dog for a while to help give him positive associations with the house and although with the roof down I had to bend uncomfortably (my dog could sit up fine), with it up there was plenty of space for us both. Again, this was the medium size. The roof doesn't have a lip on the back which seems a smart design so water can run off. It's a dark asphalt which I'm sure it great in the winter but will make the house hotter in the sun. My dog likes to jump up there, so I put a bench behind it for him to get up and down with less joint strain. I haven't put the plastic over the door yet since I want to encourage the dog to get to know his house, but it seems to be heavyweight and good for the job of keeping water out. Although this house could not be described as water tight, I do think it will be good short term shelter when my dog gets caught out in a rain. The doo-hickies that hold the roof up are great! No holding it open with my head to change mats and no fear if it banging down. It's great, too, that the house sits off the ground out of any water. Bottom line is that I like the house and my dog seems to like the house. It's not as heavy duty as what my grandfather made our German Shepherd in the 1970s, but it's a heck of a lot better than anything I could have done and I think the quality is better than fair for the money. It's attractive and sturdy and functional and I think it will last IF I put that coat of sealant on it. I considered several similar dog houses and am glad I chose this one. ... show more
