I went from buying weed killer with a built in sprayer to a small hand pumped sprayer, to a larger hand pumped sprayer and to a battery powered backpack. When the backpack failed I gave thanks as I’m too old to keep hoisting that thing on my back. I decided to go with this Petra unit. I wanted wheels, large capacity and battery powered. The sprayer comes with a set of straps so you can wear it as a backpack but why would you? It’s got wheels and a 100 foot hose. I really like the long hose so I don’t have to haul the main unit around everywhere I go. The wheels make it easy to relocate the unit once I reach the maximum distance with the hose. For minor jobs, I unreel just a few feet of hose and roll the unit around. The battery seems to last forever. Everything should come with a battery like this. The tank shows liters on one side and gallons on the other. The markings are kind of hard to see so I rubbed them with a Sharpie. Not pretty, but it makes things easier on old eyes. It comes with a hoard of different parts. A couple of long extendable wands, triggers, spray nozzles and more. Actually more pieces than I will ever use. I selected the trigger, wand and spray nozzle that I wanted to use and put it all together being sure to use the included teflon tape on the threads. You do have to make sure that when you are winding the hose that you get it smooth and tight or the last length of it doesn’t fit very well. There are two vertical rings on one side for holding the spray wand when not in use. If you use one of the larger nozzles or the flexible nozzle with the wings on it then it won’t fit through the rings. (You can safely cut the wings off of the plastic flexible nozzle and it will then fit.) For some reason, I suppose for shipping purposes?, the hose is snaked through the bottom ring seemingly meant to hold the wand so you’ll have to remove it before completing your assembly. I use a large spring clamp to clip the hose to the rack to ensure it stays in place after winding it up. It helps when you aren’t to careful about winding the hose up neatly. The clamp also comes in handy keeping extra hose from unwinding when not using the entire length of 100 feet. You just press the switch and, after filling the tank with whatever, your ready to go. You’ve already charged the battery of course. (Actually, the unit seems to be fully charged on arrival.) The pump comes on to build pressure then stops. It activates every time you squeeze the trigger in order to keep the pressure up. By using the switch to turn on the unit, it automatically runs at max pressure (70psi). Alternatively, there is a knob above the switch that you can turn to adjust how much pressure you want the pump to generate. Use the knob if you want less pressure. When using the knob, leave the switch in the off position. I use the pistol grip to spray so I just adjust pressure based on how hard I squeeze the trigger. Over all I really like the design and especially the performance of this Petra sprayer. I would like the hose rack to be a little bigger so I don’t have to be so meticulous when winding the hose back up. Other than that, I don’t think this thing could have been designed any better. I bought the sprayer only for weed spraying. I’m about to restain the deck and bridge out by the pond. I’ll use my paint sprayer for that, but I intend spraying a sealant after staining. The sealant is very watery and I want a heavy coat on there so I may try this sprayer to see how well it will apply the sealant. I think it will be easier than the misty paint sprayer. I normally just use the power switch and run the sprayer at full pressure, but I may try the knob and adjusting to lower pressure for spraying the sealant. They’re not kidding when they say “excellent customer service”. I was walking along spraying the fence line and the stainless steel wand came apart. At first I thought I could just snap it back together, but it turned out a permanent connection had failed. It happens. I contacted Petra and a new wand was on the way. No questions asked. Not only did they replace the stainless steel wand, but they also sent their new improved hybrid wand. It seems to have the best features of the stainless and plastic wands. I can’t explain why, but I really like this new wand. The stainless wand will be a good backup though. I’m sure to empty out any remaining product and run clean water though the unit in order to keep it in good condition. I like this sprayer and want it to last a long time. After multiple upgrades I'm glad I finally found this excellent sprayer. UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE I have a station in my shop where all the charging cords are. I went to charge the sprayer, plugged in the wrong cord and fried it. I contacted Petra asking for help. I explained what happened and that I wanted to purchase a replacement for the fried circuit board. What did they say? Nothing. I got no response at all. I guess customer service is great when it's a simple problem caused by a flawed part, but when something serious happens they won't even acknowledge it. I'm a fair hand at soldering from working on my pinball machine so I guess it's up to me to pull the board out and try and repair it. It's a shame. This sprayer was great when it worked. I know I'm to blame as it was my mistake, but being ignored is not what I expected. I just hope I can repair it. Final Update I've repaired my machine - without the help of Petrotools. Unfortunately, due to my error, the battery appears to be ruined. It will not charge above 6.5 volts, won't hold that charge and so won't run the sprayer. I've ordered a new battery directly from Petratools. I would order it here except that discount coupons are readily available for use on their site which saved me $10 on the $60 - yes, you read right - $60 battery. The coupon also gave me free shipping so it was definitely the way to go. Replacing the battery is kind of a pain, but thankfully it is not something that needs to be done very often. Remove a screw and a couple of bolts so you can remove the tank - after disconnecting the hose from the tank. Remove the cover. Remove the cover beneath the cover. Cut the wires off of the battery since they are soldered on. Remove the battery. Reverse the procedure to install the new battery using the soldering iron everyone has in their workshop to connect the battery. Charge up, fill up and go start killing things. I still love the machine. I just wish Petratools support wasn't so hit and miss. ... show more

I like almost everything about this product. It has a wrap around rack (I wished it was a spool reel instead) . But, I can deal with that. It made my job 7x easier for me. I do mold remediation and was using a 4 gallon manual pump sprayer with only 4ft hose . What used to take 4 hours to treat with my old sprayer, the Petra reduced to 20min. I no longer have to struggle with the old sprayer in the attics or in the crawl spaces because of the 100ft hose! No more hand priming every 15 to 20 seconds either!! The wheels on the cart have rolled through a lot of types of terrain so far. When it arrived it had defective 'o' gasket nuts at the tip of the extension wand. I called customer service and Nathan took care of everything . Within a couple of weeks I had my new wand! ( probably would have been a couple of days, but I didn't remember to check my Email for confirmation of address🤦♀️) Nathan was very polite, patient, and most willing to help resolve the issue. I'm not sure how long the battery can run on a single charge (they say about 7?) I had it off the charger for 3 days and running time (actively used it) totaled about 5 hours... when I plugged it in to charge it still had power. So, the battery is great. It is just as Petra describes it. I would buy it again and do recommend it to I others looking for a good commercial sprayer. I'll be using it at home to make other projects easier on me. It's 70 psi makes cleaning the privacy fencing easier. ... show more

I needed a spray rig for use on our ranch to spray RoundUp on bare-ground parking areas and insect/fungicide sprays on a dozen fruit trees. In the past I have just used hand-pump sprayers and was ready to move up to an electric-pump system. The spray volume I typically use (less than 5 gallons) didn't justify an ATV-mounted or tow-behind (trailer) unit, so I opted for the Petra HD5000 unit with 6.5 gallon capacity and roll-around cart. With that much weight, I didn't want to carry it as a backpack. After a troublesome start with leaking fittings and RoundUp all over my hands (luckily with gloves on), I found that the sprayer itself performed quite well with a good spray pattern, good battery life, and relatively good maneuverability rolling around my mowed orchard. However, the overall spray wand design and functioning seamed marginal compared to my experience with previous hand-pump sprayers: 1) the fittings were leak prone and required excessive fooling around with to get and keep them tight, and 2) the handle I was using with the Stainless wand was comfortable enough, but its ball valve was awkward to turn ON and OFF repeatedly for spot spraying. I'm an experienced aerospace engineer with on-site manufacturing facilities, so with a lot of coronavirus-caused deadtime, I decided to see what I could do to make an good Petra sprayer better! I started by seeing what else was on the market (on Amazon) and what folks were saying about their performance...with particular emphasis on the spray wand and spray heads. What caught my eye was Chapin's industrial line of brass sprayer shut-off valves and their industrial-grade brass nozzles ... both with 4-star plus reviews. I didn't particularly like the hose attachment on the Chapin valve, but brass is easy for me to machine and work with...not so for plastic. So I bought a Chapin brass valve (#6-1898), wand (#6-7703) and nozzles (#6-5787 and #66000) and went to work adapting them to my Petra spray rig. One troublesome issue I found immediately was the diversity of nearly-the-same (BUT NOT the same) plumbing threads used among the different sprayer manufacturers and even within their different product lines. I my case, the Chapin industrial line of brass spray heads uses US standard 1/4-18 NPS (straight pipe) threads, whereas the Petra wand parts use some sort of Chinese metric thread (perhaps M14-1.5mm) which is very similar, but marginally incompatible with the Chapin US standard threads. The bottom line is that one has to either make thread adapters or modify the threads a bit to achieve compatibility. In my case, I did both. Another important thread size is the larger M18-1.5 metric thread used by Petra for their wand attachment to their shutoff handle So how'd it go? Quite well...and a fun project! I cut off the hose end of the Chapin brass valve and fabricated a brass fitting to allow it to be directly screwed onto the Petra handle (see photos). Then I fabricated a custom adapter (M18-1.5 to 1/4-18 NPS) to allow the Petra Stainless wand (which I like) to be threaded onto the Chapin-valve's wand-side 1/4-18 NPS thread. To fit the Chapin spray heads to the Petra Stainless wand, I just rethreaded the Petra wand's spray-head-end thread ever so slightly to 18 tpi to allow it to thread easily onto the Chapin nozzles. So what I ended up with was the Petra hose quick-coupling and handle on the backend of the Chapin trigger valve, fully preserving compatibility with my quick-coupling Petra hose attachment and other Petra valves, AND the wand end of the modified Chapin valve fully compatible with either Petra or Chapin wands. Also, my Petra Stainless wand is now fully compatible with either Petra or Chapin nozzles. From a comfort point-of-view, the Chapin valve works really well with the Petra handle, providing good comfortable balance with the Petra hose on one end and the Petra SS wand with light weight plastic fan spray head on the other. The Chapin trigger valve also provided comfortable, convenient, and vastly improved on-off triggering for spot spraying...or equally well for continuous spraying of larger areas. So how did my custom Chapin/Petra trigger valve and wand assembly work in the field? Really well! No leaks and the quick action trigger valve was a vast improvement over the Petra ball turnoff valve for spot spraying isolated weeds. Also the wand/handle-valve was well balanced and comfortable to hold for long spraying times. Just what I wanted! Another big improvement over my previous hand-pump sprayers was the lack of plugged nuzzles and easy post-spray cleanup. I really like the filter in Petra's large-diameter fill port. I never realized how many nozzle-plugging particles were in my fill-water supply. Based on my recent spraying, the two issues I have remaining include a too-high flowrate of RoundUp, and a spray-cart hose retainer that can't keep the hose in place. The hose retention problem has been mentioned by others...a clear shortcoming that Petra needs to address. I really like the idea of the hose real I spotted on a new ad for the HD5000 unit...how do I get that cart and real for my unit? The spray flowrate issue is probably my problem. Although the spray pattern of the Petra plastic fan spray head is great, at max pressure I quickly went through 5 gallons of RoundUp mix in a few minutes...more than I thought I should use for the plants that I sprayed. I need to calibrate the flowrate versus supply pressure and fan pattern and see if I can achieve a better spray utilization. As a postscript, I also purchased the larger 12 inch wheels suggested my another reviewer, but so far I haven't found the need for the larger wheels with my ground conditions. What I do is constantly wheel the rig around as I spray, using maybe 10-15 feet of hose. The problem I have is that the hose keeps falling off the cart's hose retainer rack and keeps being run over by the cart. Either there needs to be less hose or a larger rack...or let me get the new HD5000 cart with the hose real. Another option is to get the Petra 50-ft hose that won't overfill the cart's existing hose rack. I'll update this writeup after I have a chance to work on these remaining issues. So far I'm impressed with Petra...they seem to be actively trying to improve their products. I hope this review gives them some ideas. One thing that would really help is for Petra to offer their spray attachments for sale on Amazon with free Prime shipping like Chapin does...Petra's shipping doubles the cost. June 19 UPDATE: Needed to use the Petra for spot spraying in my Walnut orchards and wanted a way to mount it on my 4x4 Gator. For this I bought a MaxxHaul 70422 48" x 21" Hitch Mount Compact Aluminum Cargo Carrier - 500-lb Load Capacity from Amazon. It fits nicely in the Gator's 2" trailer receiver hitch and provides plenty of room to attach the Petra...also very reasonable price. Attached are photos of the rig and the attachment brackets I made from two 4 inch 1/4-20 eyebolts...works like a champ and very easy on&off. ... show more
