  • The GOAT of RTVs, worth the money...
Style: Right Stuff 90 Minute Black Size: 3 oz
Used to seal a plain old stamped steel lower oil pan to the aluminum upper oil pan. Followed directions, zero leaks, cures just as fast as directions state: finger tighten, then 60 minutes wait, then torque to spec, then 30 minutes wait, then pour oil in. About the only bad part (and it isn't their fault) is how annoying it is to squeeze it out with a continuous pressure because it's a tube, companies sell "tube dispensing pliers", I just don't do enough of these to justify buying one. Some may wonder just how well it adheres and how easy it is to remove after a fresh application. I had to remove the pan roughly four weeks after resealing with Right Stuff (reason for removal had nothing to do with Right Stuff), so I was able to test the adhesion as well. The old RTV that was on the pan for fourteen years was so weak and already seeping oil past it, that just inserting a putty knife by hand and twisting at one corner removed the entire pan. Right Stuff adhered so well that I had to insert the putty knife into three corners, by hammer, twist just to even start splitting, then do a lot of downward pulling. No damage (or bending) occurred to the pan and it does come off but the adhesion is extremely tight. With the pan bolts on I can see why this wouldn't leak oil and it's been months now with zero drops of oil. Getting the remnants off the lower and upper oil pan was mildly annoying since it was stuck on well, but nothing plastic razor blades couldn't fix. On the second time around re-sealing the pan, I used the same tube of Right Stuff, the pan is 14x9 inches so the tube had enough to do that pan about three times. After four weeks the Right Stuff in the tube was just as pliable as when I first bought it, I've never had to re-seal back to back like this with a four week gap between, usually the gap between when I use a tube is months to years and it's dried up by that point, so just know it's going to last a while. Save the plastic nozzle when you're done with it, if you throw the nozzle away you're going to need to buy the nozzle four pack that Permatex sells if you need it again anyway. The nozzle may look like a lost cause because of the RTV in it, but just let it dry and cure, once it dries and cures, it becomes a plug that when pushed (with a pick, ballpoint pen, etc), comes out completely leaving no residue or mess in the nozzle, doesn't adhere to it at all. Also don't attempt to clean the RTV out of the nozzle while it's still wet, you're either going to need solvents which will damage the plastic, or you're just going to spread the RTV thin on the walls of the nozzle and when it dries you're going to have to scrape the inside up to flake it off. Keep it simple, leave the mass of RTV in there whole so that it all comes out together as one piece/plug. ... show more

  • Used on intake gasket replacement for our 2009 Chrysler Town and Country with a 3.8.
Style: 3.35 oz. Size: Pack of 1
Several years ago, the used car dealer we bought the van from did a warranty repair on the intake gasket of our 3.8 V6. It held up for a while, but started leaking last winter. I used some of this product, a new Mahle gasket, and replaced all of the lower intake bolts. This time around, it really did the job. Follow directions and let it actually set up before running it or subjecting it to oil or heat. After replacing the intake gasket this time, the oil consumption is greatly reduced, and there are no more coolant leaks. Previously, the oil was leaking from an oil passage into the engine, as evident by a track going into the intake runner. ... show more

  • Great for oil pan gasket
Style: 3.35 oz. Size: Pack of 1
I had to replace the oil pan on my 2006 Nissan Altima. I couldn't find a premade gasket, so decided to try the Permatex Ultra Black. It worked great!

  • No waiting to drive your vehicle for the gasket to cure
Style: 5 oz. Size: Pack of 1
I’ve successfully used this product twice on two different Subarus to seal CVT transmission pans. The product gives you a few minutes to apply and set in place. First gently hand tighten all the transmission pan bolts and then use the manufacturer recommended tightening sequence to torque the bolts to spec. Then refill transmission fluid and you are ready to drive. No waiting for extended cure time. ... show more

  • Good gasket maker, but watch the cure time
Style: Optimum Black Size: 3 oz
I have used Permatex products for years. I tried the Optimum Black because it's supposed to have the highest oil resistance. The product works well. The only issue is that you have to be careful of the cure times. At lower temperatures this sealant will take more than 24 hours to cure. I used it on a valve cover in a garage that was 45 degrees and it took several days to fully cure. ... show more
