I used this product in an unintended way. After watching videos online about ways to fix leaking oil pans, I figured this was worth a shot. It worked great! It's messy, but 5000 miles later and it's still working like a champ. Dealing with a 4x4, transfer cases, supports and more, that made pulling the oil pan a huge job, this was a gift. On top of that, it can be done roadside if need be. If your looking at this product for this use, I'm sure you saw the videos (there is one with a guy working on like a copper colored pickup, and he uses a shop vac, he's the best!) Just be sure to clean it well, be sure no more oil is leaking while putting on the permatex & apply liberally (there's plenty, don't be greedy, use it all, so you only do it once). I had a problem with this can, apparently the valve was defective. I used it once and the next time, it all came out of the can. I contacted Permatex through their website and told them what happened. The next day a customer service rep contacted me and offered to send me a new can plus a high temperature version to try. This is stuff is a miracle! I have a 2010 Ford Focus and decided to changed my transmission fluid. In doing so I went through three gaskets (one rubber and two fel-pro) and a new pan and nothing would stop the leaking. I also broke a bolt off by over tightening the pan and had to re-tap one of the bolt holes. I figured I would try this stuff before bringing it to a mechanic to see if it would work. So I dropped my pan and cleaned the pan and the transmission surface interface with acetone, applied a bead around the entire pan and bold holes and remounted the pan. I added transmission fluid immediately after installing the pan and then started my car and took it for a ride (no waiting). When I got back to check under the car NO LEAKS!!!! I wish I would have used this stuff in the first place in stead of wasting weeks with after market gaskets. If you do not have a factory reusable pan gasket (which mine didn't) I would highly recommend using this stuff. ... show more

Came recommended by my engine builder to seal the rear main crank bearing journal block on my Nissan L-series engine. Requires you to have a caulking gun (a standard, full size gun WILL WORK you DO NOT need to buy the short style gun Permatex wants to sell you).

I changed my transmission fluid/filter recently, and I used Permatex Ultra Black silicone gasket to seal the pan, and that didn't turn out too well. My transmission pan was leaking like crazy. So I ordered this stuff, dropped the pan, cleaned the mating surfaces with a wire brush, and tried this. I'm 100% leak free! However, this stuff is SUPER tacky and once you press the pan to the tranny case, the silicone goop holds it in place. That's helpful, but I feel like I'm probably going to have a VERY hard time getting the pan back off in 50,000 miles. ... show more

good stuff..... i mean the right stuff. use to use this for diff covers at my last job. handy stuff with many uses. i learned that long as u let a lil bit of the stuff come out of the tip (like 1/4" to 1/2") and just let it sit like that when u store it, that it keeps the rest of it from drying, so when u go to use it next time, all u gotta do pull off that bit and the rest of it is ready to go on ur caulking gun. awesome stuff, price is a bit steep, but there's plenty there and it'll store/last for a while if u know what u're doing. ... show more

Undoubtedly the BEST gasket material. It saved me once with a transmission pan that would not seal with gaskets. Now I used The Right Stuff anytime I must be sure it seals the first time. For example, I installed a new water heater for my jacuzzi and the replacement heater did not thread in as far as expected. I was worried it may leak so I liberally added The Right Stuff to the threads and threaded it togeather. I formed a gasket on the outside with my finger and it appears to have created a gasket inside too. I let it dry 24 hours. It has been holding for a few weeks now and I am sure it will hold for a long time. ... show more

I'm a professional mechanic. This is the best RTV sealant out there. You can put together something together, fill it up with coolant, and pressure test it immediately and then give it right back to the customer without any delays waiting for it to cure.
