    • Puts my old hand crank grinders to shame!!!
My wife is diabetic and has neuropathy. Our old hand crank pepper mill and the store bought pre-packaged Himalayan pink salt grinders have both gotten too much for her to deal with. I have been buying pre-ground pepper and the regular white fine table salt for quite a while, now, in order to make the task of salt and pepper easier for her. Still, we both have missed the fresh ground pepper and our Himalayan Pink Salt and I decided that it was time to look for an alternative. I found some, locally, that you have to squeeze to turn the mechanism that grinds the peppercorns and salt, but as I figured, that was no improvement over the twist type of grinders. I took to Amazon and started surfing. Almost immediately, I found these grinders. They caught my eye because my wife’s favorite color just so happens to be blue, and I am partial to the color as well. I looked at the listing and found out that there are no cranks to twist, no buttons to push, and no levers to squeeze. These babies run on gravity and triple A batteries. I decided to give them a try. After waiting for a few days, they arrived in my post office box. I picked them up on my way to town and set off to the store some peppercorns and Some of the Himalayan Pink Salt that we haven’t had for quite some time. I got everything home and opened the package. I unscrewed the top of the grinders and discovered that it took six AAA batteries for each of them. This was not a problem as I had recently restocked, but just so you know and aren’t taken off guard, that’s a total of twelve AAA batteries that you will need in order to run both grinders. I filled each of the lower compartments for the salt and the pepper, added all of the batteries, and put it all back together. All it took was to tip the grinders upside down, they light up a very pleasing blue, and they start grinding. Tip them back up and they stop grinding and the blue light turns itself off. That’s all there is to it. No switch to flick, risking leaving the light on for those of us with a touch of ADHD, and accidentally running the batteries into the ground. I like them very much, and both my wife and I are pleased to be able to indulge ourselves with the salt we love and haven’t been able to have for a while, and spoil ourselves with the freshly ground peppercorns! The media could not be loaded. I recently got coarse sea salt but realize I don’t have a grinder! So I got these and like them so far. They look sleek and high-tech. They grind the salt coarsely but fine enough for regular cooking. But do be aware that 1. It needs 6 AAA batteries (that’s a lot in my opinion, hope it lasts long enough) and 2. One needs to pour from the taller side. I didn’t realize this and tried to pour from the shorter side, little salt cane out. Later I realize, as you can see in the picture, it has a hole only on one side to allow the salt/pepper goes into the grinder part. I guess this is a good way to control the amount. I think swirling it from taller to shorter side allows me to not leave too much residue onto the grinder and controls the amount of salt. I also like the light function that allows me to see how much salt gets poured. ... show more

    • One of them quit in just under 60 days with light use. ~ Will update if they make it right.
My reply ~ I do not consider less than 60 days long term use for 2 people. Salt grinder sputtered a few times & quit. I did put new batteries in it & also tested them with a Fluke Meter. Not working. I have used a battery powered grinder for the last couple of years and I needed a replacement. The 1st thing I noticed was that it holds about 3x more than my other unit also it was much easier to fill it out (very large opening) so the wasn't peppercorns all over the Countertop. The 3 blue led lights were also much brighter&covered more area than my past unit. The adjustable knob is on top which for me was a plus. The only negative thing about this is that it uses 6AAA batteries however it is more powerful than the last one I had so maybe that's why it needs more batteries. ... show more

    • Wanted to love them
I have tried everything to get these to work properly. The pepper seems fine, but the salt mill does not work well. The salt has only two grinds....large pieces that come out, or nothing. It does not seem to grin the salt into small grains, and I have adjusted the top in all directions. If the adjustment is too low, the salt does not come out. If you put it higher, large salt pieces the size of peppercorn comes out. Not sure why this is an issue with the salt only, because the pepper mill isn't an issue. I even tried taking the salt out and smashing the salt pieces up smaller and putting them back in, but it still comes out in large chunks or nothing. Will be trying another brand. ... show more

    • Solves so many problems for me!
My dad has Alzheimer's and trying to turn a grinder was too much for him. I cant stand pepper already ground and it is better for you if fresh ground. All you do is turn it I er like an old fashioned salt and pepper shaker! The only thing I would like to see change is the pepper is a bit course and there is no adjustment left. I love pepper so it is perfect for me but other people didnt want that much pepper. We love it though and it gave me ground salt and pepper and dad can just use it like his old shakers! ... show more
