This is a simple manual pepper grinder and does exactly what you expect it to do. I had been using the McCormick plastic grinders, but decided to get this to cut down on plastic waste. I need whole peppercorns on hand for some things and there was no sense in buying them AND the disposable grinders. If you're super picky about calibrating your grind, this may not be precise enough for you, but I use mine every day and for under $10, I think it's a good value. ... show more

I had been wanting a pepper mill for a long time. I purchased this one at least a month ago. It is beautiful, but doesn't always work. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if it is the product. I'm not sure how I could get it wrong, but I'm willing to take responsibility for the disfunction. When I twist the mill to release the pepper, more often than not, not much comes out. I can feel the pepper grinding when it is working properly, but when it isn't working, I can feel that nothing is happening. I'm just twisting the mill and nothing comes out. I have figured out that if I shake the mill and turn it in the other direction a few time and then go back in the right direction, it usually will start grinding the pepper again, but not for long. Then I have to do that process over again. Shake it, turn it the opposite way and go again. As I said, sometimes the mill works and sometimes it doesn't. As far as I can tell, there are no settings or adjustments for coarseness. You kind of get what you get. And it didn't come with any kind of instructions. I still think it is a lovely piece. Just wished it worked better and more consistently. I probably would not buy this particular one again. Maybe I just need a master class on pepper mills. Oh well. ... show more
