  • Well Built Pump
Style: Old
We bought this Pentair Superflo pump to replace a ten year old pool pump that had a 1h.p. Rating. Since the location of the input and output fittings on the Pentair pump were about 1” farther apart than the original pump, we had to buy some new 2” pipe unions to slightly cut and adjust the existing pipes. After cutting/adjusting the pipes to accommodate the new sizing of the Pentair pump, the installation was simple. We reattached the input and output pipes, and used the existing electrical cable to attach the 220 volt wiring and ground wire inside the wire housing on the top of the pump. Then removed the top clamp/lid and filled water in the strainer pot, and turned the power on. It took about 3 minutes to fully prime the waterlines. Replaced the strainer/lid and the installation was complete. This Pentair pool pump runs slightly quieter than the old pump, and has a slightly greater flow rate. A great product! ... show more

  • Loud but works good
Style: Old
I replaced a 2hp jandy with this 1hp pentair. Output over the spillway is a little less, as expected, but it's still ok. Im fine with that. What I was not expecting is that this pump is louder. Kind of high pitched. The pump is located on the back of the garage so you dont hear it from anywhere else. If it was close to the pool it might be an issue for some. ... show more

  • Powerful 1 HP replacement pump
Style: Old
When we bought our house 5 years ago, the existing pool had a 1.5 HP Hayward that was a high service factor pump, so essentially a 2HP. Operator error (yes, it was me) damaged that pump, so rather than spending $1000 on a replacement, I bought a Doheny’s 1.5 HP, which was quite a bit less powerful, but worked ok and was pretty quiet. Unfortunately, it only lasted 18 months and died, so I bought another, which also died just beyond the warranty. Both pumps had bearing failure which damaged the shaft and made rebuilding impossible. Then, here on Amazon, I see a Harris pump that looks exactly like the Doheny pump, but 25% cheaper, so that became my third pump in less than 5 years. The Harris pump was the same as Doheny, but the motor was different. Still quiet, and equipped with a large filter basket. Unfortunately that pump only lasted 5 months and the motor burned up, and I mean totally fried. The supplier made me ship it back to them before they would warranty it and the extra warranty I purchased was useless since it was still under mfg warranty. The Amazon seller, Pool Supply Superstore did warranty the pump, but in the meantime, we had hard freeze warnings heading our way and my filter system is not winterized as we run it year-round, so… I buy this Pentair pump directly from Doheny, who I discovered happens to reside at the same address as Pool Supply Superstore. Hmm. Anyway, I trusted Doheny to ship quickly and they did. Both/either vendor is/are fine. I love Doheny and PSS did turn the warranty pump around pretty quickly as it got here only a day later than the Pentair, but one day after the hard freeze. Unfortunately I did have to replumb for the Pentair as it matched the original Hayward pump piping, but not the Doheny/Harris pump piping. Other than two cuts, two PVC couplings and some glue, it was a drop in installation. I now have the Harris as a spare. So, here’s the story on the Pentair Superflo 1HP. It’s actually a 1.1 HP compared to the Harris 1.5 HP which is actually only rated 1.35HP. But in comparing the pump curves, the Pentair is a higher head pump, meaning more volume at my working pressure of about 15-20 PSIG. The Pentair uses a bit less energy but delivers more flow. Sweet! It runs my Kreepy Crawly vacuum no problem. There are two issues with the Pentair: 1. It is noticeably louder than any of the previous 4 pumps. Our pump skid is outdoors, outside some windows of my wife’s office which overlooks our pool. She noticed it right away, but says she can still function fine in her office. So louder, but not annoyingly so. 2. The filter basket on the Pentair is really small. Probably only half the volume of the other pumps. With the pump down for several days and a springtime high pollen/seed load, I was plugging that basket every few hours until Kreepy cleaned up that mess. I’m still checking the basket daily but it would probably go a couple of days now, compared to 5-6 on the old pumps. It’s a solid pump. I don’t know how long it will last since it has only been installed for a couple of weeks, but Pentair is a good company. The whole industry change to variable speed or multi-speed pumps is really driving up costs. This pump uses half the power of the original Hayward and about 20% less than the Doheny/Harris pumps but is sufficient to run my pool vac and keep my 25k gal in-ground pool clean, without breaking the bank, or having the complications of variable speed motors. Simple is good. ... show more

  • Broke in 9 months, support said 8 months to replace
Style: Old
This thing has been a problem from the get go. First off we have multiple renals and this is the 4th to break within a year and like the others thier support was horrible. No response and constant work on my end for even a response. I have tried out a couple other brands at these locations and all has been good, so I would avoid pentair at all costs ... show more
