  • Smooth
Style: 2500 Size: 2500
I've had some time now to fish this reel a good bit. It has become my new favorite saltwater reel. It is extremely light, durable and smooth. I really love the oversized handle grip. I use a daiwa fuego of the same size and the penn blows it away for smoothness and retrieval rate. It also has great drag power for fighting fish. Make sure not to exceed the line lb test rating for optimal cranking and casting ... show more

  • The Lightest Penn
Style: 2000 Size: 2000
Love the Conflicts. I have both the 1000 and 2000, have no doubt it will last forever, and if something breaks, I can easily fix it myself. No need to send it to the Service Center and no need to worry about parts availability. The Conflict has that solid feel that's devoid of play. Even my Vanfords have some play - I don't know why Shimano can't eliminate those tiny bearing gaps in the Vanford price range. Penn has some problems with consistency, but thankfully, the Conflicts I received were tight. Love the hard EVA handles - no bearing play, and they're large. I have no idea why other manufacturers make small handles. Large handles give you control. Get these before they bring out the new models. I'm not a fan of the new designs like the Clash II or Battle III - they look overwrought. But these Conflicts are perfect. They have that understated, elegant look. Overall, highly recommended. ... show more

  • Lovely and light reel and something I'm proud to own.
Style: 5000lc Size: 5000
The reel arrived the first time and immediately had issue. The anti reverse switch broke after switching it back forth. Amazon seller was contacted and had sent a new reel immediately two days after requested. This was very welcome and earned much credit with me. Out the box this product is very light. Not as smooth as some of my other reels, but surprisingly after a day of playing with it and fanangling it seems to have become buttery smooth. The reel spool has a rubber banding that sits flush in a receess, allowing braid to be tied directly. Due to the large capacity a mono backing was used. The bail doesn't automatically shut, which is an absolute must in my eyes. The bail detent holds open and closes with authority. The line lay was perfect and precise out of the box. The biggest strength of this reel is how ridiculously light it is. Using a polymer and carbon fiber accents for weight savings. Some may not be happy with the choice as polymer seems less durable than metal, but the same was said about Glock when it first came around. Paired with a St. Croix Mojo surf in the 9" length, the rod was very very light and will allow for all day casting with minimal fatigue. I look forward to using this and putting it to the test. ... show more

  • Took to the Beach Yesterday
Style: 8000lc Size: 8000
I field tested these reels yesterday. Yes, I have two of them. One on a 15' surf rod and the other on a 10 footer. They cast great which is why I purchased them. They are the Penn Conflict II LC 8000 and I was surprised how light they are for the size. They lay down the line so tight and have improved my cast about 20 yards at least. I have not caught anything but Pompano yet so i will let you know how they handle bigger fish. Also do not know how they will hold out but I am taking care of them as the composite materials will break easier than aluminum. When spooling I noticed that the first one loaded front heavy and so when spooling the second I removed the plastic adjustment washer and it loaded perfectly. ... show more

  • One of my best reels for the price !!!!!!
Style: 2500 Size: 2500
Love the reel so far. I purchased the 2500 and mounted it on a 7ft Lew’s Speed Stick rod and boy do they make a great combo. It cast unbelievably far and it operates smoothly. I’ve owned the Conflict 1 for about 3 years and so far it’s still operating perfect. I’ve also owned the Clash a few years and it’s still running strong. To me this Conflict 2 is giving the Clash a run for its money when it comes to how everything is operating so far. I have not owned the Conflict 2 that long so I can’t give an opinion on the longevity yet. By the way Ive only used it for freshwater fishing, mainly bass and cats. But I think it’s one of the best reels for the money out there at what I paid for it on Amazon. I know you can get some nice Shimanos for around the same price but this to me is just as good if not better. I love the looks by the way. Of course Amazon was super quick and wonderful with the purchase. ... show more

  • Solid reel for the serious angler
Style: 2500 Size: 2500
This is a solid reel and seems like it will last a long time. The reel is very smooth and I have no problem with casting distance running braid. Almost all of my reels are Penn and I upgraded from the Fierce to this recently on my go to medium setup. I’m still running the fierce reels on other rods and those reels are exceptional for 90% of applications, so if you’re on the fence and money is a concern or you don’t fish in demanding situations, go with the fierce. Two things this reel does better than any reels I’ve ever owned (this is the highest quality freshwater reel I have ever bought, so I expected benefits out of it): 1. The anti reverse handle stops dead in its tracks, it doesn't have any reverse give that a lot of other reels have before the lock engages. This gives it a more solid and confident feel. 2. The drag is extremely smooth and very adjustable so you can adjust drag mid fight and fine tune it. With other reels there are times where I’ll have to fiddle with the drag as they have a steeper adjustment band. One thing that was really appealing to me before I bought the reel was the claim that the reel is designed for braid and it spools line tighter to compensate for smaller line diameter. To be honest, after fishing with this reel for hours, I don’t think this is much of a factor at all. The difference is hardly noticeable between this and the fierce when it comes to castability. I have had problems with wind knots but I don’t want to blame the reel exclusively since the jury is still out on this. There are a lot of factors that cause wind knots (new line, amount of line on the spool, lure weight and of course, wind). It was also first time using the braid I spoiled this rod with. I will say that after reducing the amount of line on the spool things got better. When you’re spooling this reel, I recommend leaving a little more of a spool lip than normal, which shouldn’t be an issue if spooling with braid - you’ll get plenty of line on there. ... show more
