This is my first ever Amazon review, but I had to comment how much I am enjoying this wall clock. It is an absolutely beautiful clock, accurate, and made of real wood. It uses two AA batteries (which supposedly will power the clock for about a year) and has a silent pendulum. No chimes. It is a dark brown color which matches my dark stained wood floors very well.     • Fix for wide swinging pendulum problem.

Just got this clock today. Therefore, we can’t give ratings on how accurate it is. Pardon the pun... but only time will tell. We can say it is a good looking clock. My wife is very happy with how well it matches our living room decor. We were also very happy that it is made of wood, and actually has glass inserts in all casings. Most comparable clocks we considered had plastic instead of glass. We also appreciate the movement is quartz. One thing I had to address was how wide the pendulum swings. It actually swings so wide... it bangs into the glass panel on the side. There is nothing the seller can do about this. They didn’t make the clock. They just sell it. They can’t help that the manufacturer used such light weight material for the pendulum. My very smart wife came up with the solution in about two seconds. Simply add weight to the pendulum. I used little disc craft magnets. They stick right to the back of the pendulum. The more you need to lessen the arc of the swing... the more magnets you add. And... It should go without saying... the clock needs to be level. This also lessens the chance of the pendulum striking the inside of the case. ... show more

    • But... the pendulum

It was a sad evening when my 45 year old schoolhouse/regulator style clock stopped. It had been passed down to me. I collect clocks but most are not for everyday display, especially in a busy room with kids and pets. I didn’t want one that chimed too close too bedrooms either. So, this looked alright, as far as the photos went. It was a better match to my decor than my old one and appeared to be quality. When I opened it today it was a “meh” moment. The dial was easy to read but looked a little cheap. From where it hangs it’s not so bad. It’s nice and heavy but not too heavy. The back was trouble, it was a bit warped and when I did manage to get it in place I had to do so with the hole sitting behind the pendulum (which you can see when it swings). I’ll probably look for a permanent fix at some point. All else aside, it keeps good time and serves its purpose. My biggest gripe is the pendulum, it looks pretty ok in the photos online but in person it was fragile, bent upon receipt and looks very cheap. I had to gently straighten it with some jeweler’s pliers so it would hang straight. Now... after I hung it up and had it level, the darn pendulum was banging far to one side into the glass. So, I have it slightly off center to avoid this. I may try to replace it with a better weighted, higher quality pendulum. Yay! so it turns out that the old one from my stopped clock fits, seems to work and since the batteries for the clock and pendulum are separate, I’m not worried about the movement. In short, liked the clock but didn’t love it and hated the pendulum. I know one reviewer recommended a magnet and I understand why. If you want to keep or have to keep the pendulum, I would find that review and take their advice. I’m also still grouchy about the other one, which was made when things were a bit sturdier. ... show more

    • Nice looking clock; minor issue

The finish on the wood is darker than what I thought it would be. A couple of people mentioned that it is a dark brown but I think it is a dark, dark brown. Even so, it is very attractive. I was surprised that the clock did not come with batteries. I got the impression from reviews and comments on other models that it came with a set of inexpensive AA batteries. I think the description and the instructions should note that batteries are customer supplied. As a retired technical writer (I wrote instruction manuals), I think that the instructions need a little more information, including the mention of batteries. The back panel that allows access to the inside of the clock has an hole in it to allow you to stick your finger in it to remove it. Someone could easily mistake this hole to be used to hang the clock. I could see where if the panel was not installed correctly that the clock would fall from the hook in the wall. There are no instructions for the proper method of inserting the panel. At the top of the frame, is a sturdy wall hanging hook. Instructions should also recommend a wall anchor that is sturdy enough to hold the weight of the clock. Instructions should be written for the lowest common denominator audience. After I hung the clock and I eyed it so that it looked level and after the pendulum started swinging I left the room. A few minutes later I went back to check on how it was working and I heard a "ticking" which turned out to be the pendulum hitting one sidewall. I had a previous windup pendulum clock and it was critical that the clock hung perfectly level. I surmised that this was the problem so I used a level to ensure that the Verona clock is perfectly level. Now the pendulum swings without hitting the sidewalls. There should be an instruction on the operating instruction sheet that tells users about this. By the way, the pendulum swings exceptionally fast, not like what you would expect with pendulum clocks like the old-fashioned ones. ... show more

I purchased this clock as a replacement for a wind-up, ticking pendulum wall clock that we had for many years. This was a surprise Christmas gift for my husband. I didn't know how he would like a quiet clock since he had enjoyed the ticking one. However, he is beyond pleased. It looks lovely, classy, keeps time perfectly, and is maintenance (wind-up) free. He has commented many times over how happy he is that I chose this clock. And - to my relief - he LIKES having it be quiet. Nice addition to our home. Highly recommend it! ... show more
