I bought this for a gentleman I took care of for close to 6 years and he now has to be in a nursing home so I indulge the Alzheimers and Dementia. He decided a few weeks ago that he needed a clock that chimed on the half hour and the hour. It took about 2 hours of looking before he picked "the one". It came real quickly and I went straight over and got it set and hung it up and he is tickled! It does only charm on the hour and the pendulum does swing back and forth. It is kind of cheaply made, but yet it is charming. The face of the clock is very easy to read. He can see it from about 8-10 feet away. Setting it takes some time. You set it for 5:45 and wait until it hits 6 pm and make sure it chimes 6 times. If it doesn't you have to keep doing it until it chimes 6 times after playing its tune. (Only took me twice). Then you have to move it forward hour by hour all the way around until you hit the current time and let it chime so you have all the chimes with the right time. The other trick is to make sure if you are setting it after 12:00 pm that you take the clock around until it passes the 12 so it is on the right schedule. It chimes until 11 pm and starts again at 6am. Ill try to remember to take a pic today when I see him and add it. ... show more

When I opened it the speaker was detached and hanging by the wires. I glued it back into its base. Synchronizing the hours sounds is a bit of a challenge, I haven't been able to do it so far, but it is only a minor inconvenience. Will try later. Otherwise the clock sits nice on my computer wall.

We received this in time for a mother's day gift. It replaced an older version that the chimes stopped working. It was easy to set to the correct time and the chimes sounded soft and beautiful. Not loud and echoing. Would recommend this for anyone needing a chime clock.

The good: It does keep time. The bad: Unfortunately, it keeps the time...off-time. That is; the chimes will sound precisely two minutes before the hour. And while it does this consistently, it is annoying that they could not synchronize the chimes to sound ON the hour instead of two minutes before. The instructions for set-up were confusing (written by someone who has English/Whatever dictionary and little command of syntax) and consequently the set-up required a lot of trial-and-error before the time could be set. It has a built in function to turn the chimes off during the night-time hours, but finding and setting the AM/PM meridian can be a challenge. And while the materials used to build the clock are cheap plastic, the clock as a fixture remains presentable at a distance. The Ugly: The chime has really, REALLY poor sound quality. For those old enough to remember the old MIDI files from the bygone days of DOS...these chimes sound exactly like that 80's tech. I was betting that improvements in both sound files and speaker tech had progressed enough to give this clock a rich, fuller tone to its chimes, but, alas, that has proven itself to be a poor gamble. The chimes are weak and cheesy and not even as good as first-gen Donkey Kong. Final analysis: An adequate timepiece, but for $60 one could expect better execution in both accuracy and sound. ... show more
