  • Excellent jazz - blues amp
Picked it up here at a better price than I could get at any of the online retailers. Out of the box, it had a few small issues ( lose reverb tank, too much/early gain on the clean channel, ineffective tone controls) I ended up swapping the speaker out to a Celestion V-12 60 Silver Series, and the first ( V1) preamp tube to a GE 5751. This tube is 100% compatible with the stock sovtek 12ax7, except with 30% less gain. The tube swap really improved the clean channel which is now quite nice up to maybe the 6 setting, and made the tone controls work much better. Tightened up the reverb tank screws, it sounds and works great now. I play a couple of my archtops through it, the amp has a lovely warm, slightly compressed jazzy tone. Maybe not the perfect heavy metal gear, but highly recommended for jazz or blues. The stock speaker was not bad, but the Celestion has a nicer, tighter low end. The only negative is the weight. This thing is pretty heavy. Much heavier than a Fender Blues Jr/ ... show more

  • Capable Amp
I picked this amp up second hand after reading a lot of positive reviews and listening to it on YouTube. I have had it for about six months now (as of July 2011) and this amp continues to impress. Mine is a little older about 2004-05 in black tweed. I have used this amp on the gain channel and it sounds amazing, but where it really shines is on the clean channel with a MXR Distortion +. It has plenty of guts for any room I have ever played including outdoor gigs. This amp just sparkles while my Fender Blues Jr. and DeVille 410 sit on the bench. I also have a mid 90s Peavey Classic 50 212. All these amps are great, but my first choice is the Classic 30. Smaller size makes it easy to haul around. Durable too, it took a nasty fall in the back of our cargo van and slid to the back, powered up and worked fine ever since. Peavey has a reputation of building dependable and durable equipment. I recommend this amp as a gigging musician and guitar player since 1985. Take a chance on this one and enjoy! ... show more

This is a really good amp. It is kinda a mix between a Marshall and a Vox amp. It cleans up well and has some great distortion sounds. The only upgrade I did to the amp was my speaker. I changed it to Celestion Classic 30. Don't get me wrong the speak it came with sounded good, but with a speaker swap this amp sound amazing. This is a great amp for gigs or recording. It has an effects loop which is awesome for a combo amp. Cannot say enough good things about this amp. Great buy. ... show more

  • PLEASED!!!!
The sweet sound of this amp is unreal. I have not been so impressed with an amp in a long time as I amk with this gem. Warm but can be cranked without losing any of the warm tube sound. I've had a Marshall 50, Fender Bassman 50, Vox....loved them but this little amp is my baby. Great for blues and rockabilly. When I want to get it a dirtier sound I use my Ibanez Tube Screamer. Get this amp you will not be sorry. ... show more
