But that's not saying much. I e gone through two of the non-pro versions. They didn't hold up well in my experience. This one will hopefully do better. It seems to clean a bit better, too. I like that you can get replacement cartridges, too.

I service a wide range of bikes frequently, ride 4-5 days a week and have been pulling wrenches on bikes for 40+ years. The Park Tool name has been synonymous with quality and occasionally ingenious tools for bikes for my entire wrenching career. This chain cleaner is well built, but it's also goofy. Whys is it goofy? First off, this cleaner can be a real mess if overfilled, tipped or held off angle. Park has two small super soft sponges inside the unit that are absolutely useless and come out constantly. I replaced them with two pieces of heavy gray Scotch Brite pad that I folded over twice and stuffed into the top and bottom sponge chambers on the Park tool. The Scotch Brite pads don't come out from the top or the bottom and I know they work better than the worthless foam Park incudes. See the photo - the yellow arrows show the Scotch Brite replacement pads and the blue arrow points to the original and useless Park "sponge" - BAD idea Park, step up your game! This tool is inordinately expensive and the only reason I bought was because I am leery of using Brake Kleen on any chain because it's destructive stuff for both the chain and the mechanic. I caught the cleaner at a low price point and I used Amazon points and it only cost me $40. I use Simple Green water based degreaser with this Park Tool - it's cheap and works great. Make sure the bike chain is level, add a few ounces of degreaser and let it rip. The tool works well enough and better with the Scotch Brite pads I added. This tool is an odd mix of good quality and bad quality - a real paradox for Park and in my eyes this is a 3 -3.5 star tool. Hope this helps! ... show more

This product is as good or better than described. My chain was clean after 1-2 passes. I am compulsive about my chain and my old plastic system took 6 or 7 passes at 50 repetitions/revolutions each time to have the solution mostly clean, albeit not perfect. The residual solution would still be slightly dirty. The park professional chain cleaner after 1-2 pass (and only 30 reps) the chain looked brand new and the residual solution clean. An additional rinse showed NO dirt. Ok, its more expensive than a comparable plastic product but its worth it. You will never replace this, no plastic pollution in the trash dump, and everything internally is easily replaceable. You cant go wrong with this product. I did not use their(Park Tools) dummy hub as it does not fit disc brake bikes. 1/15/2020-(UPDATE) My opinion has not changed since my original review. This tool is EXCELLENT. I love cleaning my chain. Its is easy, and cleanup much more reasonable. The only compliant I have is I wish they would include some extra cloth and foam inserts that go into the head of the unit. They can fall out when you open the device and you have to be careful or you will lose them. It would be nice to have extra. I love this tool. You cannot go wrong, and if you love a clean chain, you will love this. Also, I changed my chain recently(campy) after 6657 miles. Clearly riding on a clean chain contributed to the long life of the chain. ... show more

    • Excellent Bicycle Chain Cleaner
This is shipped in a couple pieces, which assemble quickly and easily (they provide the Allen wrench). This is a chunk of metal, so it should last for years, even if used in a shop environment. It does clean the chain pretty well, though it does not remove all the grime from the open part of the links. Be aware that it will splatter the area underneath the chain, so take proper precautions so you don't have stained floors or surroundings. This also does not clean the front or rear cogs (it is a CHAIN cleaner), nor the derailleur, so you will have to clean those by hand. Still it makes the chain cleaning job easier. Also, rather than buying the Park chain cleaner solution, you can use a water and detergent solution (Dawn works GREAT) and save a lot of money. ... show more

I tried a plastic chain cleaner in the past. Fell apart, difficult to use and didn't clean well. This one is solid, pretty smooth if chain correctly centered and works well. Downside is there are four foam/felt pads that assist in cleaning chain. These pads won't last long after a few uses. In my opinion, not necessary to clean chain, but thet certainly help. I really like this, my only comment is I had bought the plastic ones first and maybe I'm rough on them, I would break them. The price is higher, but buy once, cry once
