  • Very cute movie that captures the 1970s and the public broadcast space
I am a big Owen Wilson fan. He is an interesting person that brings his own brand of personality to every role he takes. Bottom-line Up-front: this is a relatively safe Rom-Com where the guy and gal (and gal and gal) get together at the end. Cue the curtain, happy endings all around. So, a little about the controversy surrounding the film A lot of people are angry because they think that this is a depiction of Bob Ross, and if it had been then people are upset because the character does not match the legend of what Bob Ross was. No. No. No, this movie is not an homage or biopic to Bob Ross. The film is meant to be a spoof of public broadcasting, and it uses someone who looks like Bob Ross to make some points. Much of the humor is very deadpan, dry, and delivered in a way that would feel more at home in a British BBC comedy. This is a thinking movie. I watched the movie three times, and the third time I was still picking up little jokes that I had missed the first two times. At its heart, two of the lead stars fall in love at the very beginning of Carl Nargle's "career." Then, Carl gets famous, and his love interest does not feel as special anymore. She cheats on Carl, and Carl, heartbroken, cheats on her, and then, they are frenemies for decades. Turns out though that they still have true love towards one another, and the movie is how they get back together. The plot is pretty clever, and I don't want to take away from it. There are a bunch of fun sub-plots. Stephen Root (of Dodgeball fame) plays the public broadcasting manager who has no filter, and started his career with the TV station because of Carl Nargle (and also because he could not operate the fry machine at Wendy's). There is the mandatory for the 2020s lesbian romance, and that one works out at the end too. There is a whole plot revolving around getting recognized and paintings in the art museum in town, and that director is *brutal* in the movie. (When Carl, who is officially recognized as a state treasure, offers to donate a painting to the museum, the director suggests, "why don't you donate them all to a Motel Six and bring joy to some weary travelers?" Ouch!) I highly recommend this movie. It is not going to win any Academy Awards, but it might win your heart. ... show more

  • It's only a parody.
The plot was ok but the movie fell flat. The character looks like Bob Ross but he's very self absorbed. They used a lot of really stupid, far fetched stuff to tell a fictional story. I think, it was meant to be funny but it wasn't. The main character had no depth. It was very disappointing!

  • Only made it through the first 30 minutes
I like Owen Wilson but the story line in this movie was totally lame.

  • Takes You to a Special Place! LOL
Paint is an instant classic for me! I loved the quiet, brilliant, comedy of this movie! It reminded me of the comedy stylings in Napoleon Dynamite, or the works of Wes Anderson, or the Cohen Brothers. This is a soothing, visually pleasing comedy classic that I will watch many, many, times. If you enjoy a clever film, with perfect vintage visual detail, that brings a smile to your soul.......Paint is a work of art made just for you! ... show more

  • A wonderful comedy
As usual Owen Wilson hits it out of the park with this very funny, interesting, and warm comedy. My wife and I loved it. Never a dull moment and a great ending. I'm sure we'll watch it again.
