    • Would be perfect for new construction
These are pretty good but often times with shingle siding where there's existing windows, or houses have settled and fascia/freeze boards aren't perfect, you find yourself fudging courses to create the illusion that things are level and straight when really they're slightly off. These aren't great for that because you will constantly be adjusting. If everything is leveled nicely then you will be fine. Also note that a 3 1/2" board combined with these at the lowest setting offers a minimum 4 13/16" course line. I just ripped my 3 1/2" to 3 3/16" and was able to get to my 4 1/2" course lines. So basically, just make sure you have a table saw to rip those pieces if your course lines are below 4 13/16". They're a little snug to slide behind the shingle so make sure you're tilted out as to not scratch your new shingles with the backs of these. I bought this on a whim for a siding project figuring I’d just return it if it was garbage but I’ve found it surprisingly useful for siding gables. It’s aluminum, lightweight, and the adjust screw can be flipped to the other side easily. One thing that others have said is that this little screw will unwind itself eventually - I think I went through 40 planks before it popped out. I was lucky enough to find the screw and avoid the twisty tie repair, but I recommend using some lock tight on this screw right when you get it out of the box! Happy siding everyone :) ... show more

The product seam well made except the tiny screws fall out. As I undoxed it two screws fell on the floor. I put TheadLocker on each screw so that doesn't happen on the job site. This is an oversight in the manufacturing of this product.

I read the reviews about this item and wondered about it’s quality, but having to be accurate with cuts on a current project I gave it a try. Reviews said it was flimsy and you could lose screws easily, so I paid close attention to making sure the screws were tight. I love this scribe, it has a great design and is easy to use with perfect results. This item is probably not going to work for you if you find yourself frequently throwing your tools into the back of your truck at the end of the day, or if you give it to your lead man of a large crew. Treat it like a precision instrument, i.e. a laser level or transit and it’ll work just fine. The cutting guide works perfectly with the SS424 Snapper Shears. ... show more

Great tool but horrible fasteners. I had to search the packaging for missing parts which I fortunately found. I am doubtful the fasteners will hold during the rigors of siding and only wish they designed it better and less flimsy.

This tool for the price is awesome, I bought 1 and have completely done the entire house with no problem, everything lines up and looks great. Don’t be aggressive with it and try using it to lift the siding pieces, it will break cause it’s plastic, thank you HighCountry Construction
