  • Makes Eating Cherries More Enjoyable
Color: Black Style: Pitter
This was one of those items I thought was silly to buy until we started eating a lot of cherries and finding that spitting out the pits was annoying and mess. I went with this particular one because I like the brand, the price was good, and reviews overall were good. It works great, it is very easy to use. If you're pitting a ton of cherries, like for a big batch of desserts or something, your hand will get tired. But for one or two servings to eat it is fine. Cherries that aren't completely ripe will take more effort to pit than nice ripe ones. I read some reviews that mentioned that it's messy when the pit shoots out, juice flies out. This is true, no matter how gentle you are. My husband had a great suggestion, instead of using a bowl for the pits to fall into, use a tall cup. Position the pitter over that, then cover the top of it with your other hand as you press, and little to no juice spits out onto your work surface. The first time I used it I had drops of cherry juice all over my counter! But once you figure it out, there's minimal mess. It will occasionally miss a pit. It'll look like it came out, but it's still in there. Be careful of that. I like that the pitter piece is metal, seems like it'll last a lot longer than something that is plastic. The rest is plastic, which is fine and feels sturdy. The little clear plastic piece that the pit falls through can be removed easily for cleaning. That little piece does help with the juice making a mess, but not enough. I really like this little kitchen trinket. If you eat cherries with any regularity, I recommend getting one. I can pit them in the morning for lunch and not have to worry about spitting the pits out when it's time to eat them. ... show more

  • If you love fresh cherries…
Color: Black Style: Pitter
I ordered this on a whim because I had a bag of cherries sitting in the refrigerator and dreaded the pitting process. I’ve used a small knife, a sturdy straw, and the chew and spit method to remove the pits. It’s a tedious process no matter what I do. But I love fresh cherries so I thought I give this a try. Yes, the cherry season is relatively short but if this helps speed the process, I thought I could consume larger quantities of the fruit while it’s available! When I started to use the tool, I realized it’s not a miracle cure. The process is still tedious (but less so), and a bit messy, but I can pit a bowl of cherries more efficiently to share with others. (Most folks don’t want to share the ones I’ve chewed and spit.). Clean up is easy. I love olives, too, but haven’t tried this on that fruit yet. But I’m glad I purchased this kitchen gadget and if you love cherries, I think you’ll like it too. ... show more

  • I should have bought this years ago.
Color: Black Style: Pitter
Anyone with little kids knows the struggle of buying fruit and having to clean and cut it to safe sizes. My kids love cherries but I hate having to individually cut each one and pick out the pit, they eat them faster than I can cut them. Enter this product. Incredibly well made, easy to use and clean, saves me so much time. Just put the Cherry in, squeeze the thing and the pit pops right out. I wasted years manually picking the pits out of cherries! Get this. You won’t regret it. ... show more

  • It Takes Learning the Touch
Color: Beet Style: Pitter
I've pitted about 3-1/2 lbs of cherries, so far, with the device; and it is cleaner and much faster than pitting by hand. I strongly recommend operating the pitter over a 9oz disposable paper or plastic cup; holding the splash guard into the mouth of the cup. In about one in five attempts, however, the pitter does not fully engage with the pit and it remains within the cherry. You can most of the time tell by the feel. Often an immediate second stroke will clear the pit. Sometimes a re-orientation of the cherry is needed. I've tried several different orientations. The most reliable (and the one that loses the least cherry); appears to be with the bottom of the cherry up and the round side (compared to the two lobed side) against the inner part of the holding tube. ... show more

  • Just WOW!
Color: Black Style: Pitter
I didn’t know this cherry pitter existed but as soon as I found it, I immediately purchased it and now I’m dying to know where this has been all my life! I love to eat cherries but couldn’t take them to work because I didn’t want to be spitting out the pits in front of others. Now I can remove the pits ahead of time and eat them out of a container using a fork at lunch! This tool is also vital if you want to let your young ones eat cherries! It has worked perfectly for my 5 and 3 year old children! ... show more

  • Not 100 percent effective.
Color: Beet Style: Pitter
For the first time ever I have put away gallons of cherries, thanks to finally having a cherry pitter. It is not 100 percent effective and you need to develop a routine so that you can hear or see the pit come out. The other issue, and I am sure it happens with any of the pitters for sale, is cherry juice goes everywhere. The best routine I can find is to hold the pitter down in my kitchen sink when pitting cherries. The sink catches most of the juice but it still gets on the wall behind the sink, and on anything close by. ... show more

  • Indispensable
Color: Beet Style: Pitter
To anyone out there who does not know what a cherry/olive pitter is, this particular product is without question the best tool you can buy. I have been using it since 1978. I ordered another one because mine is 35 years old. It was 1988 when I purchased mine. Before that it was my father's that I used. Generally every kitchen item made by OXO is a quality product and I have never been disappointed. 11 August 2023 ... show more

  • Removes Cherry Pit as advertised
Color: Beet Style: Pitter
This summer the cherries have been plentiful in my area. So much so that the nearby IGA grocery store has been selling tote bags of cherries that are several pounds. Although the typical method of eating cherries, eating the flesh off from around the pit works just fine for me, I have been on a lot of Zoom calls and spitting pits with my camera on isn’t a good look. This cherry pitter has made fast work of removing the pits so that I can eat bowls of cherries without spitting pits on camera. Please note: wear an apron when you use this item. There is a cherry splatter zone while pitting. This item is very easy to clean. Place in the dishwasher when running a load and all the cherry juice and pieces that have built up while it was in use will be washed away. ... show more
