  • Carbon faced paddle, with a nice cushy cover!
Color: MAX Size: 16mm
First off. measured on my parcel scale at 7.9lbs Carbon face was able to create pretty decent spin.. as with most carbon faces. Grip size is 4.5 inches.. Now here's where paddles start to differ and it will become which style of grip fits your hand and your game. From my extensive experience in paddle testing - you have octagonal grips which are like a stop sign in a way - my Selkirks are this way. Then you have rectangular grips where the grip stands tall in your hand (if you know what I mean) - this is a great grip for those who don't spin the racket and try to play a traditional pickleball game - means the paddle in a single position (straight up and down (perpendicular to the court)). Then you have this grip, it's a bit of a hybrid in between octagonal and rectangular. It's wider in the hand, but still tall. Thus what I liked about this grip was that I could actually leverage my extensive tennis background and still get the racquet head spin for either forehand or backhand with not to much positional trouble. The grip itself if artificial leather and did feel well in my hand and never felt it would slip with off center hits. This paddle does have a decent sweet spot - wider than many of the paddles I've tested around the same size. It's a 16mm (thickness) paddle. This is the new rage and for good reason. Provides better torque control - thus when having balls hit at you very hard and you don't catch them off center this paddle will hold it's face in position fairly well. Now, if you hit it off center out near the edges you will definitely tell the difference. Unlike my 12mm paddles from Selkirk where I have more control away from the sweet spot. Overall, I rate this paddle from beginners to intermediates. It is not tournament ready even though they state it's UASPA approved and have the seal stamped on the paddle. I could not find this model (Carbon Control) on the list yet. Only the Carbon Pro is listed. It's a great paddle to get into, especially if you want to spin the ball and the price range is reasonable. But don't take it to a tournament who's checking usapickleball dot org's paddle list. ... show more

  • Now if I can replace my legs...
Color: MAX Size: 16mm
Sometimes, when you walk onto the court with a serious equipment, others may not know... but you know. When you wear a bespoke suit, or a quality equipment that others may not know about, It is not about public recognition but on a deeper inner self satisfaction, you just appreciate quality. Having said that, this paddle feels good. It feels good in my hand, it feels good in my head. It hasn't improved my game because I am an absolute beginner and I still have legs and feet that are encased in concrete shoes. Perhaps I need to upgrade the shoes... ... show more

  • Upped My Game
Color: MAX Size: 16mm
I'm a low intermediate player, so I'm in need of more play and, I decided, better equipment. I had been playing with a "two for $40" paddle, and my game--and paddle-- seemed to have dead spots. This one felt great out of the packing, which itself seemed too light to be a serious pickleball implement. But it's both light in weight and substantial, solid. No dead spots here. Just a sluggish, oldish player after two hours on the court. My pickleball might not improve much, but I won't any longer be able to blame my paddle. Maybe I need to upgrade the balls, or my partners. ... show more

  • For starters, I'm a "BANGER"!
Color: PRO Size: 16mm
Avid open-level racquetball player here... I've been delving into this awesome competitive world of pickleball for the last 2 months, already starting to dominate most courts I bring the challenge to, especially in singles. I already have acquired dozens of paddles to test. I started with the wood AND honeycomb/fiberglass sets...shared them all with others--great paddles in their own rites for beginners and moderate never-serious players. I've tried the claimed-ones that are supposed to be carbon fiber, or hybrid mixes...they're a step better, SOMETIMES. NOW, I won't play with less than "raw" carbon fiber faces. The control and pop are simply incomparable for the game I play. SO, I HAD to try this one out! Yep, raw carbon fiber face as advertised. Under $100 is a seemingly good price for such. But there ARE others in the 'name brand' arena that match this, or only a FEW bucks above, and certainly worth considering over this. This paddle plays nicely...and for moderate players aspiring to play/compete with the avid 4.0+, it might do the trick for some types...for me however, it was a two-game trial that was decent, and played better than most of the aforementioned paddles, for sure. But I have at least 3 paddles I'd choose over this, and ones I felt were at the 'same' price point. This paddle SHOULD be priced at a more competitive sub-$70 point to even begin to tug at my 5th star. (I have a US-made upstart raw carbon faced paddle that happens to cost $70 I'd recommend easily over this one.) This might have gotten 3 stars if it weren't offered in this elongated form...I don't even try ordering the original shapes anymore--the preference of reach, and grip space have made a HUGE difference for me. I'm amused when opponents whine and complain about me hitting too hard, voicing concerns of breaking their precious $3 balls! ... show more
