  • Bunny loves it! And a comment on quality variation
Flavor Name: Western Timothy Hay Size: 9 Pound (Pack of 1)
Great quality product! I order the 9lb box for my miniature fuzzy lop Darla every two months or so. She absolutely loves it and will clean her hay rack out to the last piece. The packaging is easy to store and keep tidy. I do wish they had an airtight resealable top, but that’s mostly because I buy such large quantities for my little bunny and would like it to stay fresher longer. The only true “downside” to I’ve experienced is that when comparing the price to similar products, it’s one of the most expensive. Since I don’t have much experience with these competitors (Darla liked this hay so much I never needed to shop around) I can’t speak on the quality vs. pricing sliding scale there. I want to address some of the reviews complaining that the product is not consistent in quality. I’d suggest that it is not the quality that changes, but the texture and body of the Timothy hay. Hay is harvested in “cuttings”, 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. For anyone curious, I’d direct you to West Meadow Rabbit’s video on YouTube on the difference between cuttings. Unless your critter is super picky, it shouldn’t make any significant difference to them or the hay’s nutritional profile. Otherwise, I’d suggest buying a hay product which specifies the “cut”. For example, my previous box resembled 3rd cut hay: it was darker in color, the strands were thinner, curlier and almost cotton-candy like, and the smell was potently sweet & like tea. There were few of the “fuzzy tops”, or seed heads, in this mix. My bunny likes this because of the sweeter taste and strong smell. My current box more closely resembles 1st cut hay: the stalks are more rigid, thicker, and a pale green color with lots of fuzzy seed heads that Darla goes crazy for. It just smells like normal hay, and does break into smaller pieces as you get to the bottom of the box along with a more noticeable buildup of dust. This is normal, especially when buying large portions as the fragile stalks get crushed in transit. My bunny enjoys munching along the straight stalks like we would slurp a spaghetti noodle. Again, both should be received well by your bunny so long as they aren’t super picky, and they shouldn’t have significantly different nutrition profiles so don’t let that deter you from seeing if they like this stuff! This brand and product as a whole is excellent, and in my opinion the change in texture is a good thing - no wasteful discrimination for superficial reasons (on a product which does not state cutting) and a natural variation. ... show more

  • Green, whole, and fragrant!
Flavor Name: Western Timothy Hay Size: 25 Pound (Pack of 1)
The two stars are for the quick arrival for arriving the next day, but these last three batches were terrible. I understand it's randomly hand-picked. Though, do we really need to drop $50 for roots? I feel bad for my bunnies. They deserve better! Seriously will consider paying extra for kaytee in smaller quantities. Appalling! Edit: Today, I reluctantly opened the package and could immediately smell the fresh greens through the exterior box. It's absolutely stunning! The bunnies love it and I don't have to worry about them tossing it to the side for nesting material. They savor each piece and actually stay full. This is certainly a better batch and well worth it! ... show more

  • Not too great of a value
Flavor Name: Western Timothy Hay Size: 25 Pound (Pack of 1)
When I first order this product, the hay quality was great! The second time I ordered this hay, there was a lot of saw dust hay and brown hay day whimmpy hay. My piggies wouldn't eat it. I will give it one more try before I start looking elsewhere again for better quality hay for my piggies. Update 2/3/24 Since the last review, I gave it a 3 ⭐️. Now I changed it to a 1 ⭐️. I had two more boxes come in as I had decided to do the subscription to give it a chance. The last box that came in was filled with a lot of saw dust like hay. I went through this box 4 days sooner than expected due to the saw dust like hay. It was green on top but I didn’t notice the dried light brown on the bottom of each hay layers. This box was extremely dusty as I had to clean the air filters sooner and my room was filled with a lot of dust. I tried to feed them to my babies but they just played with it. I have another box that’s coming in on Monday 2/5. I’m a very busy person and do not have time to run around. That said, I will be canceling my subscription after this box arrive and will be looking elsewhere for better quality. Maybe if Oxbow begin to check their hay for better quality in the future, I might come back. As for now, I might go back to Kaytee or inquire locally at the farms. ... show more

  • Great Hay
Flavor Name: Western Timothy Hay Size: 9 Pound (Pack of 1)
I have been using oxbow for a very long time for my bunnies and it has been great quality. I have never had a box from oxbow where my bunnies did not eat it all! Only thing I would be aware of and warn people of is the delivery damage. My box is so damaged that I will have to find a new way to store the bag of hay since it looks like my box was beaten up. ... show more
