  • My piggies favorite soft and sweet
I like this hay and my guinea pigs do too. I have a moderate allergy to Timothy and this is a great alternative for a great price. Sometimes you get first cutting second cutting or I don’t know maybe third cutting the third cutting is the worst I like the first because it’s really a lot longer and thicker and doesn’t fall out of my hay bags. But any of the cutting is good and I like the quality and it comes in a bag in a box all in all it’s a good quality. ... show more

  • 8 out 10 boxes are perfect!
I have purchased this hay consecutively for 4 years now and specifically 16 times over the past year. I have 4 guinea pigs who plow through hay. This hay is tasty and wonderful, HOWEVER, statistically... 2 out of every 10 boxes I'll order is crappy. In the "bad boxes" the hay will be super super dusty and short making it extremely messy/dusty to use and undesirable to the pigs. It seems those "bad boxes" are the bottom of their bin/harvest. I wish the company would quality control those "bottom barrel" scraps and not sell them because i end up throwing the box away almost immediately due to unhappy pigs, the dusty mess, and uselessness. I will continue to buy their product but it's a gamble. Unfortunately my last box was a waste of $28 - I attached the photo of the "short hay" and notice the intense dust along the bag! Overall the product is worth the money, but don't be shocked if you get a "bad box" ... show more

  • My piggies love it
I love this orchard hay and so do my piggies, it smells sweet and is softer than timothy I like that it is cheap for so much hay, it's also good quality

  • Perfect
My daughter was allergic to the Timothy Hay so we had to switch to this and so far it's been great

  • My bunnies RUN to this stuff… I mean HOP
The media could not be loaded. My bunnies have never been so excited for any other type of hay before. They gobble this stuff up like it’s their favorite treat. Seriously, they prefer this hay over any treat I could offer them (maybe excluding fresh banana!) This will be my third time purchasing the 9 lb. box and I anticipate having to buy it many many more times. I would buy it in a larger amount if I could so as to buy it less often. It’s fresh, fragrant, and a nice “softer” hay. Much better quality than other hays I’ve bought on Amazon. ... show more

  • Inconsistent Quality
I have been on the regular subscription for the 9 lb orchard grass for a while. I agree with the review that 8 of 10 boxes are great. I received a box a few months ago that was half hay dust. It was the first bad box i got. The pieces were chopped up so fine that i had to sift through it for usable hay for my guinea pigs and had to get an extra box before my next ship date because so much got tossed. The next box was fine. But i just opened the most recent box and its garbage. I realize hay is a natural product and there can be "surprises" but the harvester clearly ran over some large woody plants that are certainly not hay. It is chopped up through the entire 9 pound box. Since this is , at the moment, what i have, i spent a fair amount of time picking through it almost strand by strand to remove what ever is in the box. It could not have been quality checked because it is quite a good amount of field debris of some sort. ... show more

  • No dust, good value
The hay is works great and you can only see any dust when you get to the last bit, and not much. Great value at around $2 a pound where other pet companies would charge you up to $5 a pound depending on the amount. The hay lasts my 2 7 month old Guinea pigs 1 month and change. That would come out to be roughly $25 a month which is pretty good. This would probably be the sweet spot for buying in bulk, as I’ve seen people complain about 50lb hay bales having too much dust. Although you could consider the 40lb by Oxbow which I can’t speak of as I haven’t tried it. ... show more

  • Chinchillas love this
It is difficult to buy orchard grass hay in any quantity in a store. We give this hay to our chinchillas as free choice feed. They love it, which is good. Good for digestion and for wearing down their mousy fangs properly.
