  • Cool contraption!
Color: phone stand with light
Not bad for the price. Does the job. Not the sturdiest, but very much capable. PLEASE MEASURE THE TABLE, DESK, ETC. YOU'RE CLAMPING IT TO! I wanted it on my kitchen table but the mouth of the bracket wasn't wide enough for my table.

  • Convenient Copy Stand for Cell Phones...works better with some items upgraded.
Color: Phone Video Stand
I have two professional-grade vertical photographic copy stands and two professional tripods for copying with my SLR cameras. However, more recently I’m finding that my cell phone does an excellent job of document copying for many applications...and it requires far less effort than dragging out the big cameras and copy stands. However, to achieve good sharpness and framing one needs to support the phone on some sort of simple copy stand, and, ideally, one needs to trigger the phone with a remote shutter release to avoid shaking the camera during the exposure. The big advantage of the phone is its very light weight, which allows for a lightweight and compact stand. For my system I purchased the ChromLives Scissor Boom Arm Articulating Phone Stand and a remote shutter release that works with my Samsung S20 phone. I found that the Chromlives base-clamp works well on my workbench with its 1.75 inch grip range, and the articulating arms are able to hold the phone up to 25 inches above the bench surface for horizontal copying. For storage, the unit folds compactly into a 16” x 4” x 2” bundle. In operation, when taking photos of a subject below the phone (the normal copy orientation), the phone screen needs to face up so you can see it, and the phone’s camera needs to face down toward the subject being copied. Thus, to work properly, the phone clamp has to be located on the back of the camera (below the camera), be narrow enough to not block the camera’s field of view, and be positioned so that the clamp doesn’t push any phone buttons on the side of the phone. The clamp size and positioning capability worked out great with my Samsung Galaxy S20, but you might want to check the needs of your phone. Note that the manufacturer’s image does not show the correct manner to hold the phone. In terms of the boom operation, the scissor-boom’s joints hold tight, work smoothly, and hold the phone quite stably. However, I knocked off a star because the phone mount is spring loaded with a very strong spring that makes it very difficult to install and remove the phone without disturbing the photographic setup or pushing the phone’s side buttons. Also, the supplied ball joint is not very smooth to operate. This is important to me, as I pull the phone on and off the copy stand often during a shoot to view the images I’ve taken on my computer. For my setup, I replaced the phone mount with a screw-clamp style phone mount and substituted a better quality ball joint (see photo). With these items replaced, and using my remote shutter release, the ChromLives Phone Stand works like a champ. I use it all the time. For bigger items, like blue prints, I clamp the Chromlives base-clamp onto the ball head of one of my big camera tripods. This allows me to photograph very large prints with the cell phone. ... show more

  • After removing top attachment, projector screws right on!
Color: Pic Projector
I use this for cookie decorating. At first (for months!!), I was very disappointed because the clip where the projector pops into is flimsy & ive had my projector pop off mid-cookie! BUT then I saw someone using the same stand WITHOUT the top attachment - just screw the projector right onto the top, after unscrewing the flimsy attachment (rectangle holder part). NOW, it’s very sturdy & I love it! And it’s cheap!! ... show more

  • Bad head, doesn't hold phone or camera well
Color: Pic Projector
This would be great but it's very tricky to get it to hold my Pixel phone or Canon Sureshot horizontally to take pictures on table. If you can get the ball joint locked in securely at the right angle, don't breathe on it or you have to fiddle with the thing again. It's thumb screw is too tiny and hard to get tight. Also the spring-loaded holder feels cheap and flimsy. I believe it will break if stressed. Would have preferred being able to change out this head for a better one but you can't. The stand part of it is stable and quite satisfactory. ... show more

  • Awesome and super affordable
Color: Phone Video Stand
This product feels like it's higher quality than what you paid for. It's metal and sturdy, and it doesn't feel rickety at all. I use it with a phone, so I'm not sure how it'll hold heavier accessories, but my guess is that it'll do fine. I don't use the phone clip it came with for two reasons: 1. The springs are really hard to pull apart, which of course is good for holding on to the phone, but a little annoying to deal with. 2. Because it's so strong, it activates the side-squeeze feature on my Pixel 4, so I just use a different grip. I do think it's fine to use for most people though. The clamp that holds on to the table works great. I even tested it on an odd-beveled table that I have, where only half of the circular surface touches the table, and it still manages to stay stable (I included a photo). I don't recommend doing this if you are holding heavier accessories, but holding a phone is fine. The combination of the ball accessory+the silver piece (that has up/down range) at the end of the arm allows you to get pretty much a full range of positions, you just gotta play with both. ... show more
