Description

The Outward Hound Dawson Dog Life Jacket is a high-performance dog flotation device for boating, water sports, the beach, the pool, and other water adventures with dogs. Designed with novice swimmers in mind, the neoprene side panels of this dog life vest will keep your dog safe by providing them with comfortable buoyancy and thermal insulation for chilly days on the water. A front neck float adds extra support to help them keep their head above water. Top grab handles provide an easy way to retrieve your dog in an emergency. Adjustable straps keep them secure both in and out of water. For small dogs, sizes XS and small come with one top handle, and for larger dogs, sizes medium-XL come with dual rescue handles. Since dogs come in various shapes and sizes, please select the appropriate dog life jacket size after taking your dog's girth measurement along the widest part of your dog's rib cage. Make sure to take any other unique traits (i.e., large shoulders, long torso) into consideration. The Dawson dog life vest is available in multiple colors to fit your dog's personality! Took my dog on a rafting trip and it worked really well to help him swim without tiring when he wasn't in the boat. He didn't mind wearing it and it didn't restrict his motion. It's well-made, looks good and lasts! Dries quickly, doesn't smell weird.

Bought 2 (orange and yellow), both large, for our 2 Golden’s who are relatively the same size (we measured both of them and ordered sizes per product description). The elastic Velcro chest strap was more than 2 inches shorter on each side on the orange one and did not fit appropriately. The yellow fit perfectly. We didn’t realize the size discrepancy until we went to use them and the orange one didn’t fit properly - Velcro strap was too tight and wouldn’t hold. The actual flotation portion and clip straps were identical on both (photo shows them slightly offset). Otherwise they worked great and seem like good quality. The dogs didn’t mind them at all, they were able to swim much longer without exhaustion, and there was no choking on water. Wish we had gotten them much sooner. Will be returning the orange one and ordering another yellow with hopefully the correct size Velcro strap. ... show more

These life vests have been great. We fish frequently with our dogs and one of them loves to jump off the boat and chase birds. The life vests give us peace of mind if they ever get a little too far and are highly visible. Our dogs love putting them on since they know they are going on an adventure. Fit is true to size. We measured our dogs just in case before purchasing and they fit perfect. We have bought these vests a few times since they worked out so well. The vests are of good quality and are durable. I appreciate the adjustable straps since they make a comfortable fit for the dogs and the top strap is essential to grab the dogs back into the boat. I highly recommend! ... show more

"Dawson" model swim jacket is my fav and my 2 dogs. My small dogs hates wearing anything and she always happily puts this on, and she's not even much of water lover but this is comfortable based on my observation of it's construction and my little ones behavior. I think this is a good vest for beginners or not strong swimmers, and also active swimmers since the style has no material around front legs so it allows for more comfortable range of motion as well. CON = getting the right fit. I had to size down for both my dog's measurements vs the size chart so maybe others need to also. My smaller dog is a solid 17" rib cage girth (all her clothes and harnesses are for 17") and I re-measured her when I ordered this but she fits in XS for this product with the straps almost as short as they go. Odd as XS says the biggest girth is 15" yet the S was still too loose by a couple inches with all straps as short as possible. Likewise my other dog actually fits a M, yet size chart indicated she'd be a L but it was far too big. PROS = *This life vest has excellent boyancy but is not bulky. *It is easy to adjust the straps and then just take off and on by the 3 clips. *It is very secure under the belly and for the chin/chest when it is the right fit for your dogs body type. And the front under chin material is not obnoxiously bulky like other models. *No Velcro! which my dogs hate the sound of and velcro sucks with sand and hair obviously. *The quick grab handle runs vertical with the spine which doesn't create much water resistance as others that have a strap across body left to right. *No chaffing around front legs because there is no material or extra sand to rub near the armpits because of the open front style that doesn't go down & under the center chest and between the front legs. Overall, it’s seems to be a good jacket. But, I had to do some alterations:( Firstly, there are two strap underneath. I had to remove one because it was right up against our guy’s private parts:( I suppose it would have been okay for a girl dog, but not a boy. Secondly, the strap on the front at the chest was way too long and even tightening to the max, it was still too loose:( Evidently, it was designed for dogs with enormously wide chests and we got the small size! So, if you are proficient in alterations, it’s a lightweight jacket that our dog doesn’t seem to mind as much as other jackets we tried. Hope this helps in someone’s decision making. ... show more
