  • Works great for a starter kit or in a time crunch
Color: Upgrade
I ordered this because my local shops were too backed up to get my skis waxed and edges tuned before a trip to Colorado this coming weekend. It was on sale and delivered to my house in less than 48 hours. Sure, there are better sets, but this got me out of a pinch for less than the ski shop would have charged and got to me with plenty of time. Everything in the kit works okay enough. The iron seems to work best when it is in a heating cycle (light on) vs when it is just using the plate heat. I do wish the boxes for the wax would list f temps as I had to make a cheat sheet. The brake retainer bands are too short for all of my skis, even the 80mm underfoot ones. That being said, I switched to Velcro brake retainers a while ago for the same reason, so just use those. Some of the reviews mention the edge trimmer being crappy, but I found it to be perfectly sufficient for DIY and left my edges sharp and smooth with the 87 degree almost perfectly matching my last edge tune angle. If you have the time, piece together a set with vices and traditional edge/base guides and your wax of choice and you’ll for sure have a better set, but if you don’t know what to look for, you need a set for your mountain property, or you’re in a time crunch this kit is perfect. I will be adding vices but that’s about it. ... show more

  • Pretty decent selection

Overall, this is getting the job done. I did order a different wax at the same time as I had multiple snowboards and skis to wax. The edging tool is ok, but not great and I think there are better out there. DO not use the Outdoor Master "how to" video on youtube. Not enough detail on the specifics of proper waxing/tuning. The instruction book wants you to use a metal scraper for ptex repair, but the kit doesn't come with a metal scraper. The iron works well and I like the brushes. I will probably order a different edging tool. If you just need a basic wax and scrape, this is a good kit and will get you going at least. I'm content with the purchase. ... show more

  • Not ideal for snowboards
This kit has everything you need to tune your base except base cleaner. I tuned my girlfriends skis effortlessly, using cold weather wax and had zero issues. The issue for snowboards is that the iron is anemic; not enough heat. It gets hot, but cannot heat up the base enough even at the highest setting. If you only tune skis, this kit is 5 star. If you are tuning a snowboard, especially a wide board, get a better iron like a Swix or something else with a heavier base so it holds the heat. Takes forever to get the base hot enough to flow the wax well, you’ll use more wax than necessary, and have to scrape a ton off. ... show more

  • Good initial impression.

Able to repair my sons $20 used skis. The ptex didn’t work well but it may be I am not good at it. Divots did not fill after scraping. But the wax filled them in nicely and surface good after completion. The apron is kinda silly and a waste but otherwise a decent kit for beginners.

  • Awesome kit! Easy to use!
Great kit, comes with everything you’ll need to get your board all set for the season. Love that it comes with an iron so my husband didn’t try and use our expensive one for his board lol highly recommend!

  • Gets the job done.
I bought this kit last winter, and used it quite often (I board 3-5 times a week in winter). I liked this kit because it had everything I needed, including some wax to start. I really have no complaints, as it works as advertised. I've added a smaller scraper to my kit, as well as a lot more wax, but other than that, the kit is exactly as it arrived. The iron feels kind of cheap, but it's held up so far, and the apron seemed kind of silly at first, but I find myself using it all the time now. I would have gladly traded the apron for a snowboard vise, but that would have increased the price by quite a bit. I'm sure there are better kits out there, but if you are just starting out, this kit is a good way to get going, and just add to it as you go along. ... show more

  • Good customer service
Both rubber bands snapped apart while I was waxing the ski making it very difficult to complete the job. They were quick to refund my money even though I didn't ask for a refund, which was great. They sent correspondence insisting that I used the product improperly and that the bands were not meant for skis at all, which was baffling. The bands are clearly designated for securing the brake on the ski. ... show more
