Description

Building on the overwhelming success of our acclaimed Dark Terror and Dual Dark amps, we’ve distilled thousands of customer demands into a pint-sized valve hybrid head – the Micro Dark. The Micro Dark shares the same intuitive Shape control combined with a new ECC83 (12AX7)-driven high gain preamp section, yielding screaming dirty tones that make a mockery of its miniature frame. Like its bigger brothers, however, the Micro Dark’s smoky black chassis and simple layout actually disguise its cunning versatility. Of course, there’s plenty of gain on tap to satisfy even the most discerning devotee of distortion, but this little beast is by no means just a one-trick Metal monster! Beneath the menacing exterior you’ll find a rich and diverse palette of classy and confident tones. From squeaky clean to brash and mean – whatever your style – you’re gonna love this thing. Other features include a transparent, fully-buffered effects loop and a headphone output with our popular CabSim circuitry. With the optional PPC108 cabinet, the Micro is an ideal practice rig… Plug into something a little larger, though, and you might find your new secret weapon in the studio!

  • Perfect low cost beginner or expert’s amp
My son bought this amp for himself after much research. After listening to the range of tones he was able to get for months bringing it to my house, I decided I needed to get one myself to replace a noisy $99 tweed amp clone. Here is my list of why this is a must buy if you are a beginner, or maybe your first “real” amp: 1. Three knobs. Seriously. It’s kinda perfect. Each does something different, and you pretty much can dial in almost any tone you want from clean to dirty. If you only play metal, maybe you want something else, but otherwise just add a decent pedal and you can do 80s/90s metal and not be ashamed. Cover music, songwriting, jamming, etc this can help you through all of it. 2. It’s tiny, lightweight and has a handle. It’s so easy to take anywhere. Get the case for it and it’s always protected in travel. 3. It’s built very well. So so so much nicer build than the $99 tweed amp head clone, and worth every cent more. 4. The response mimics and much larger amp. Play lightly and it’s beautifully clean. Play with attitude and it will growl with you. Quite a lot to master for a beginner, but for those really learning to play, you normally don’t have access to an amp like this in my experience at this price point. 5. It’s sounds great. Period. For experts and pros, this has some unexpected pluses: 1. Headphone out is perfect to go into FOH or PA. Seriously. Just plug a 1/4” mono into the headphone jack and have your mixer handle the rest. I plugged headphone in into a DI then sent to mixer, perfect. I plugged in headphone to a Mini RockCrusher, sent to my mixer and parallel out to the little 8” orange cab (also totally worth it), perfect. No micing to get a very very good live sound. 2. An effect loop! Seriously. If you want any improvement or embellishment to your sound, find a pedal or three, or anything else and feed it in. That’s it. It’s clean. Yes there are plenty of better, more powerful, and more flexible amps out there. But this orange hit the magic sweet spot for me for the price and my use. Underpromised and over delivered. Worth every cent! ... show more

  • The little amp that could
I paired it with a Soldano Super Lead overdrive pedal and the sound is amazing. I like this much better than the Pedal Baby at a much cheaper price point. I really like that it has a headphone Jack and an FX loop. The volume control isn’t that linear so you could benefit from an attenuation pedal but combined with the Soldano pedal you really have a great bedroom amp that has a great range of sounds. The unit sits on top of my Engl 2x12 cabinet and it is realy small. At less than half the price of a Prdal Baby, it’s a much better deal and I like the sound much better. ... show more

  • Quite Possibly My Favorite Amp Head
I have owned more amps than I can recall. After years of not playing guitar, I started again, and now that I have a family, that 100 watt Marshall or Soldano head is just a bit of overkill. I wanted a small, nice sounding amp that I could plug into my existing cab. I bought this one because of the high level of positive reviews and because of the low price. I can hardly explain how impressed I am by this little guy. Every review is spot on, Orange created a little bit of magic with this thing. And it has a buffered effects loop built in! I can get incredible tones out of this thing! Although you probably aren't going to get over a drummer with it alone, it is perfect for solo jamming, or jamming with a buddy or two. And the simulated headphone jack is easily one of the best sounding I have ever heard. I find myself playing with the headphones most of the time, and it blows my other headphoned-amps out of the water. I also own an Orange OR-15 head, and unfortunately, I never use the thing, because I like the Micro Dark Terror so much. I have a Marshall head that has been sitting on the floor since I got the Micro. You aren't going to get sparkling cleans from it, but if I roll back the volume on my my guitar it cleans up really well. It handles pedals extremely well, particularly because of the effects loop. I only have one small complaint and that is...it is a bit too small. The thing probably weighs just over a pound, and looks pretty funny on top of my amp cab. Also, because it is so lightweight, you could easily yank it off of its perch if you walk too far away with your guitar plugged in, and the guitar cord stretches too far. I only made this mistake once. If you are going to be mobile, maybe strap it down or just make sure it is secured. Tiny footprint aside, this little amp is almost perfect. Very much considering selling my other amp heads and rolling with this guy from here on out. Very impressed with this head and the amazing sounds it produces. ... show more

  • Louder than you expect for 20 watts
I purchased this to go with a 1x12 guitar cabinet. It's sounds really good, I liked it so much I purchased an Orange Super Crush 100 to replace it, and gave the Micro Dark to my son, who also loves it. When plugged into a cabinet, my unit would have been plenty loud for gigging. You get a lot of bang for your buck with these units, if you are thinking about purchasing one I very much doubt you will be disappointed. ... show more

  • BEST AMP despite size
This Amp is a gane changer and it is hard to beleive that it can pack such a punch with its small little size. This brings serious power and sound for any player. This is my thrid amp, and it is the one I was looking for all along. Pair it with the Orange Speaker Box and you have some serious sound that could play gigs if you wanted. Buy it! You won't regret it! ... show more

  • playing through a 2x12 and sounds really good, Fantastic clean sound
I bought this for my son, he absolutely loves it, playing through a 2x12 and sounds really good, Fantastic clean sound, not much gain to be had with the adjustment knob, hence the 4 stars. Overall, very impressed, my son especially loves the headphone jack, as do I!!!

  • Small but Mighty
I can't say enough about this amazing little amp. It seems simple and tiny, but don't underestimate it! Not only does it have great gain settings, but it can also give some wonderful clean tones too. It has enough power to practice with a band and even gig with at small or mic'd shows. For the cost, it would make a great beginning amp, or as a back-up for a touring musician. I would recommend running it through a 2x12 cab instead of the 1x8 that is sold along with it, but that's a matter of preference. Very glad I added this amp to my rig. ... show more
