  • Amazingly sharp and bright
I have been eyeing up this projector for some time. I had a BenQ about 4 years old which was a great machine, but I had to replace the lamp a couple of time. I always felt that I could not get the brightness I was looking for so I decided to make a purchase for this machine. Some of the reviews I read were not that great, so I took a chance. The quality of the viewing has increase dramatically. I thought I was good at 30K contrast ratio, but now I am at 1Million contrast ration. In fact, it was so bright that I will never watch a regular TV again as I cannot tell the difference. It's so good that I had to write a review. When I first got the package, I immediately hooked it up where my other projector was connected. I have an excellent sound system in my movie room, but I wanted to keep my budget low, but not too low. I had to make several adjustments as there was a pink spot on faces. It took several hours to really calibrate and learn the different settings. The settings that seem to be perfect are Display Mode Cinema, Gamma set to Film, Brilliant Color set to 5, Sharpness to 11, Color Temp to Cool, Brightness Mode to Constant Luminance to 85%, Wall Color Off as I have a built my screen with a nice painted very light grey. I used the same setting for gaming which are perfect. Watching football is like actually being at the game. Nothing beats great sound and an amazing picture. The picture above do not do it justice. For a low budget solution, then I highly recommend. One thing I was concerned with was the heat dissipation that others were saying, but does not seem to be an issue. I use roughly 5 to 8 hours a day. ... show more

  • Very bright!
I have been taking this projector through it's available options for the last month. I installed my projection screen on my north wall and I was pleasantly surprised that even with a window exposed on the south wall, I was still able to get a very usable image. We normally watch this with the recessed ceiling lights and the wall sconces set on their most dimmed setting. There is no need for complete darkness in the theater. With all the lights off, this projector still lights up the room by itself. I love the amount of zoom available. It makes it a lot easier to get the perfect picture size. There are several image settings to choose from. The Presentation and Bright settings are great when the room is more well lit. I have used several of the other settings for different shows and movies we are viewing. I love that I was able to set the User setting to my desired image. We have a 135 inch screen from Elite Screens and they are a perfect combination. The only thing I have not tried is 3D, which I currently don't have a 3D source. I'm anxious to see how that will look. ... show more

  • We are talking about a 1200$ projector. No lens cap !
Got this delivered yesterday. Picture is ok, i still need to do some tests outside. But come on for 1200$ Optoma dont provide a lens cap ? So the dust just gonna settle on that lens when not in use. This is the basics guys, part of the general product at least for the protection of the lens ! I ve contacted the customer service thry told me to phone to their part and accessories department who of course dont answer the phone. I have no idea hiw much they will charge for this necessary part but most likely this will be the reason of the return if that item. ... show more

  • Pros and cons
I use this projector for my only source of TV and have been using it everyday. Pros- picture quality is good and you can see the picture without having to shut off the lights. Cons- it's not wireless or Bluetooth capable! I have owned another projector in the past that was cheap and that had both of those. If I would have known I couldn't hook anything wireless to it , I would have not purchased it. If you are using a firestick then you can hook the speakers to that. Sound is not good and you will absolutely need a set of speakers. I wish the keystone settings would allow you to have it off centered such as a corner so you don't have to have it right in the middle. Overall it's a great product but know your setup and make sure that works with you. I am with other people on it does check all the boxes but also forgot to check the basic ones. I still give it a good rating because at the end of the day it's giving me a good picture quality ... show more

  • Incredible picture on the HZ39HDR
I like this projector so much, that I can hardly watch my 4K TV. The picture is super clear and detailed. The 300,000 to 1 contrast ratio really brings the images to life. HDR is the only way to go. The projector must be fed with a high quality 4K, HDR signal to get the best results. The unit is not native 4K, but the picture is so good, I doubt it could be much better. Use it with a good screen or you are wasting your money. There are plenty under $150. Use a good two channel sound system and you are there. It really needs a dark room. It doesn't have to be completely blacked out, but fairly dark. The darker the room, the better the picture. The instructions are horrible and the remote is difficult to use, but once you get set up, it's basically just on and off. ... show more

  • Sudden Mass of Dead Pixels 1year 6months
After 1yr and 6months of admittedly heavy use, it suddenly broke out in a huge amount of dead pixels, mostly black, some white. Its pretty impressive, last week it was fine, this week, we're talking 30-40 pixels probably.

  • SIMPLY AMAZING! I cant believe the difference
Guys, I have been doing research on a projector for my office for a long time. At first, couldn't really afford it but really didn't know where to turn. I looked at the BENQ line and also Optoma's lamp projectors. A week ago I came across laser technology for projectors. I said, ok surely there is no way I could afford this. Dumb luck I went to Optoma's site, and sure enough, there it was. I immediately started to research technology from different sources. Hands down, even in Europe this device is the rage. It was extremely easy to set up (I was intimidated but I was wrong)! I immediately went to Amazon just to see what they are going for. To my surprise, it was priced extremely well-given technology it packs. I got it, took me 20 min to setup. Now the pic you see is on my bare wall! I am waiting for the screen to arrive from Amazon. Even without it, it brilliant! You can even connect it to your PC via HDMI or use NVIDIA Shield as I do. A+ GREAT BUY!!! ... show more
