  • You get what you pay for
Initially the price gave me sticker shock compared to many less expensive products advertised on Amazon. However, once I studied the various product features, one quickly recognizes that we are talking about an "A" product compared to mostly "C+" products. Furthermore, the various user reviews support this comparison. For instance, I got 21 days battery life. Granted I set location updates every 90 seconds instead of 30 which does make a difference, but it was sufficient for my objective. Most of the reviews that I read with other CHEAPER units might give a week in similar usage and conditions. Trust but verify is my motto and this product allows me to ensure after school activities are exactly what I am being told. The only thing I didn't like was it showed me stops at red lights. I wish there was a way to not display stops under a minute; nevertheless, it was easy enough to ascertain which stops were at lights. Because I travel a lot, sometimes two weeks at a time, I needed a product that had superior battery life. As a single parent, I have no one else to pull the unit off for charging. I live in an area which is all hills (very big) and lots of valleys. I have the unit mounted to the under carriage right behind the rear bumper. I never ever had an issue with gaps because of a weak signal. I can't comment on service but I can tell you that a day or so from activation, I got a message from a company tech letting me know he was there to assist me whenever I had a problem. Good to know but I have had zero problems. Start up instructions were easy to follow, like 5 minutes. If I offered one criticism (possible one), its the online dashboard control. It could be more intuitive and better layout. Then again, it was intuitive enough that I figured use of the dashboard in five minutes. I didn't do any "help" reading on the site. So on summary, you get what you pay for. The unit is extremely reliable, puts out a strong signal and offers the best battery life that I could find in the price range. Over all, easy to use and follow online. I would also note that I bought the Optimus case. Two points, in the case the tracker stays totally waterproof, secondly it takes quite a lot of pull to get that thing off the vehicle. So I can't offer any comments about the magnets on the tracker itself. I bought the case at $19 primarily just to rain proof the tracker. ... show more

  • Strong magnet
So far so good. Mine is behind a braket in the truck bed, but it is exposed to air, wind and rain. I was a little scared to place under the vehicle. It appears to be a strong magnet though.

  • Tested it hard before entrusting keys to it- it passed the tests!
I have a 2010 Outback, along with the unfortunate propensity to also inadvertently lock my keys in my car. I often just need a key to get IN to the car, as the chip key is usually sitting on the seat, yet inaccessible. I have often called AAA or family to help me out at such times (we have a 'key amnesty 'policy in my family- no matter what the status of the relationship at the time, we will always help each other out on lockouts). However, my family moved on sabbatical to another country this year, and AAA sometimes can't find you if you are out in the countryside. I purchased this item and tested it for one week (empty) by attaching it to my car undercarriage. I proceeded to use my Subaru, taking full advantage of its ground clearance as I covered all sorts of terrain (highway, city, overland, farmland, country chip roads with gravel upspray, etc.) in all sorts of weather. It wasn't exactly a 'Tough Mudder' situation, but it was a robust week of activity. The box stuck. On the recommendation of a friend- who remarked " yeah, but put some weight in there to see if it pops open"- I removed some of the foam padding and added some rocks (wrapped) to provide some heft. I repeated the aforementioned test. The box stuck- did not pop open. I have placed an unmarked house key in it and a car key that is actually cut for my car door but is a chip blank (without the chip) (purchased and cut at my local Ace Hardware for ~ $25). It's a bit of a tight fit, but still doable. That key will open the car door but not drive the car. That's fine- I know my pattern, and I'll probably have at LEAST one chip key in the car that can be used to drive the car when I need it. I specifically had the key cut to be WITHOUT a chip because I don't want nefarious people in public parking lots being able to scan said chip key (sitting under my car) while I'm shopping. If it doesn't have a chip, they can't scan it (on reflection, though, I think that I would have to engage the key manually for the RFID mechanism to produce signal that is scannable, so it's a moot point). Fine purchase- would buy again! ... show more

  • Very Helpful
Purchased for my son. Based on almost all magnetic car holders, I had him reglue the magnets so as to not have to return it of buy another if lost. Loose magnets seem to be the biggest issue with all the car magnetic holders that I researched. He likes this just fine and his keys fit great.

  • Safe and sound
Its a great sturdy and solid case. Magnet sticks to bare metal and painted surfaces.
