Frequently asked questions

The Garmin fenix 6 Pro Solar features innovative solar charging capabilities. Apart from its regular charging, the watch has a Power Glass solar charging lens and custom power manager modes that harness the power of the sun to extend battery life. When used in smartwatch mode with solar exposure, its battery performance can last for weeks, saving you from regular charging hassle.

The Garmin fenix 6 Pro Solar is equipped with several advanced training features. The PacePro feature helps you keep pace with grade-adjusted guidance as you run a course. Also, it has preloaded ski maps for more than 2,000 resorts worldwide. Furthermore, it has advanced workout metrics, running dynamics, heat and altitude adjusted VO2 max and recovery advisor.

The Garmin fenix 6 Pro Solar provides a wide range of performance data. It provides data on your VO2 max, recovery time, training load, training status and aerobic and anaerobic training effects. Also, it includes navigational data from GPS, GLONASS and Galileo satellite networks. Plus, it includes heart rate, Pulse OX sensors data, and outdoor recreation profiles for activities such as hiking, running, biking, swimming, rowing, and more.

The Garmin fenix 6 Pro Solar comes in a sophisticated black with a slate gray band design. It features a 1.3” (33mm) lens which is larger than previous fenix models. The always-on, sunlight-readable display features stainless steel bezel, buttons and rear case. It is also water-rated to 10 ATM (equivalent to pressures at about 100m depth) making it suitable for swimming and snorkeling, but not for high-speed water sports and diving.

🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

Across both reviews, Garmin’s Fenix 6 haș been touted as a strong contender in the world of fitness watches due largely to the phenomenal battery life, solid built quality, excellent display readability, advanced features, and functional design. However, some users have raised concerns about the device's ability to accurately measure the heart rate, especially during certain high-intensity interval workout sessions and hiking. The performance of the watch's solar charging and power meter functions also falls under scrutiny.

Pros

  • 🦾 Durable design and solid build
  • 🔋 Exceptional battery life
  • 🌍 Excellent GPS capabilities, particularly for wilderness tracking
  • 🚴‍♂️ Good performance for steady-state activities like running and indoor cycling
  • 🎯 Useful features relating to situational awareness for hiking and other outdoor activities

Cons

  • ❌ Inaccurate heart rate tracking during certain activities
  • ⌚ Inferior to competitor brands like Apple in some parameters
  • ☀️ Solar charging feature underperforms
  • 💡 Power meter accuracy is questionable

Should I Buy It?

If you prioritize battery life, durability, and advanced sports functionalities, then the Garmin Fenix 6 could be a worthwhile choice for your fitness needs. However, you may be disappointed if heart-rate tracking is a major part of your routine, or if you require a fully functional smartwatch. It is advisable to weigh your requirements against the mentioned flaws before making an investment.

  • Great Watch with a Couple of Caveats
Great Watch. I have several different watches that I rotated but since buying the Garmin I have worn it every day for its great functionality, ease of use and ability to track health stats/exercise. My experience with the seller was positive. This purchase was a pre-owned watch, but arrived promptly and the condition was as advertised. PROS 1. Easy to use. (There is a learning curve, but it is easy to overcome.) 2. Attractive watch. Not big and clunky. (I have the medium size.) 3. Works well for tracking health stats and exercise. CONS: 1. Battery life could be better. 2. Solar Charging Doesn’t seem to have Much impact. 3. Watch face is really dark and sometimes you need to turn on the light to read the time even in the daylight. ... show more

  • Huge upgrade
Bought this to replace my vivoactive 3. Much much much better fitness watch by a longshot. Has what seems like everything you could thing of and more. There's stuff on this watch that Ill prob never use too or just need to figure out. I use it mostly for fitness tracking, steps counting, heart rate monitoring, sleep monitoring, and the thing that tracks your sleep patterns. it has a compass, map tracking, sunrise/sunset, too much to list. Definitely with every penny. Only complaint (minor) I had initially was that I couldn't read the letters on the bevel of the watch for the button functions, but after using it for a week and reading the manual I know now what they do. ... show more

  • Great watch if a little pricey at MSRP
Picked up one of these while they were on sale over Black Friday. Much better than my previous Android Wear watch. While the screen is not as good as other smartwatches it makes up for this in battery life. This watch does everything I wanted from sleep tracking, workout tracking, NFC payment, navigation, HR and VO2 monitoring, the list goes on. The solar feature is a pricey extra but does add a bit of battery boost, especially if you're doing activities outdoors. Thus far without leveraging the solar feature much, I've managed to get the watch set up where I get 5-10 days battery depending on how much I use the GPS tracking. At MSRP I feel the Fenix 6 is a bit on the pricey side but when Garmin and other retailers offer these at a discount I would thoroughly recommend considering one. The biggest upside is the battery life compared to other smartwatch offerings. If you don't like having to charge your watch every couple of days, this should likely be high up on your list. ... show more

  • Great Military Spec Sports Watch
Coolest watch I've owned . Never wanted a smart watch but needed a health tracker . This watch came highly recommended by my brother who is an L E Pilot. My Brother and his co workers all wear the garmin fenix watches so I picked this one up on sale and couldn't be happier. Great watch keeps track of my hr , pulse ox and sleep very well. Love the lay out and face of the watch, everything is very subtle not flashy . I just think this watch is awesome. If you're looking for a milspec watch you won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • Amazing watch!
A fantastic overall watch. I had a Fenix 3 HR for 5 years and loved it. I wore it in the ocean and got salt water inside it and it never recovered. After having that watch I decided to replace it with a Garmin Instinct solar. That ended up being a mistake, as the Instinct is a huge step back from a Fenix. So much so that it aggravated me enough to return. I decided to get the Fenix 6 pro solar. Customization of watch faces is a huge bonus for me. And everything The Fenix offers is so intuitive. The solar is a total gimmick so if you're buying for that don't bother. I've worn my watch in direct sunlight for over an hour while not even doing an activity, and lost battery life. So if it's supposed to aid in battery life during an activity it will be so minimal it won't even be noticed. I've left my watch in a window for hours in direct sunlight and it never gains more than one percent. The technology is really cool but it doesn't perform as intended. I'd recommend getting the sapphire crystal version and skip the solar. Overall a fantastic watch, 4 stars only for the solar performance lacking. ... show more

  • Great all around smartwatch
Wonderful smartwatch, the app as well as the watch have great breakdowns of your activities as expected the battery life is not super awesome but it is somewhat decent for all the activities that it tracks for me I get about 5 days on a charge but I have the watch pretty much maxed out on the activities plus the solar charge system is very nice, since I work construction it adds a great deal of power to the watch. The Garmin pay is not great it is very picky on what banks and CC's it will add. So far that would be the only downside to the watch ... show more

  • A wrist watch that does what I want it to.
I like that this watch has so many features, especially those that monitor health like SP02, respiration, sleep, HRV status, stress, and heart rate. What's even better is that I can see it all on my watch and don't need to get into the app to see everything. All the workout stuff is great but everyone else has all that. I also like that the watch face is always on and has a light for dark conditions. I can also program the watch face with much of what I want to see. The solar is good, though I haven't spent much time outside yet. What I don't like is all the buttons. Though easy to use, the position of the watch on my wrist and the turning of my wrist gets tiring trying to hold the watch in place for viewing while selecting up and down, and through the various things I want to see. It just not a natural position to hold for periods of time. Outside of that, a great watch! Love this thing! ... show more
