    • best choice under 500 bucks, except for one thing.
so I hate to leave a negative review and because of that I won't. I will simply say that this is probably the best integrated amplifier option under $500, better than the Yamaha or similar. it just has such a wonderful rich resolving tone that really draws you into the music and makes you forget about critiquing the sound of what you're listening to and allows you to just enjoy the music. it's got a great turntable input as well as good build quality except, I've went through two of them that have had various issues with the speaker balance being off and one channel sounding louder than the other. I'm a pretty seasoned hi-fi enthusiast so I'm familiar with all the steps needed to correct such a situation or that could cause such a situation to happen. And trust me when I say that none of those steps reached a satisfactory resolution because at the end of the day there was something wrong with both of the amplifiers i purchased. I ended up getting a third one that was perfect and have been enjoying it in my bedroom system that I have where I use it. so don't take my experience in a negative light and not buy it, because you'll be missing out. just hope that when you hit the buy button that you receive a good one. because if you do you're going to get a fantastic beautiful product that makes truly excellent music. ... show more

    • Great upgrade from the Onkyo TX-8220 receiver
This integrated amp has a lot more power than I was expecting given the advertised wattage. Compared to the Onkyo TX-8220, this hands down can drive speakers a lot harder, and with ease. Don't be fooled by the 30watts at 8 ohm, this thing can push power just fine. I have yet to be able, or need to turn it above 50%.. My speakers are Paradigm Monitor SE 6000f and they have responded well to the upgrade from the 8220. That said, any speaker would respond well to better quality power. You can tell the electronics on the inside are far more robust than on the 8220 reciever. Some first impression complaints would be the dial has a tiny hash mark in the knob that shows the volume, but is far too incognito for me to see hardly even six feet away. Fixing this with some white sticky tac. Also, I wish the input display was also larger. From my listening position I can hardly tell what input I am using. The setup was fairly straightforward on how to configure your sub options, but I don't like it only gives you 5 seconds before it gets itself out if the setup mode. Lastly I wish the volume buttons were larger and less discrete on the remote.. This is all nit-picky stuff that I am willing to overlook for the performance of the unit. For the price you really can't go wrong. I have also a Bluetooth adaptor/DAC coming also so I can stream to this device as well. I like this has a sub-out, phono in and extra inputs to spare. ... show more

    • For the money, one of the best.
My system consists of the Elac 6.2's, an 8 inch subwoofer from Dayton Audio, the Audio Technica AT LP 120 w/usb, and this integrated amp. I wanted the amp to match the system, not high end, not low end. Mid end. My choice came to to this amp and the Yamaha AS 301. I chose this amp because of the price and the reputation of Onkyo. The online reviews were very good. I've had it about three months now, so here's my report. It has a very good phono input, not up there with the Schitt Mani, but good. It has four line inputs, more than adequate. It has a subwoofer, or LFE, output, which is critical for today's systems. It has a very nice feature, called Pure Direct, which bypasses the tone controls (including subwoofer) and let's you listen 'straight from the source'. Good for the purists. But it also has phase matching bass, which brings out the lows very nicely, especially if you have a subwoofer. You like funk and hip hop, this will make you happy. It has all controls and a VERY LARGE volume knob on the front, you can't miss it. It is rated at 50 WPC, more than adequate for most people. One thing I love : the amplifer is very quiet, with the volume knob turned to the 2 o'clock position and no source running thru it, you hear -- nothing. No hum. No fuzz. No static. NOTHING. To me, that's the sign of a quality amp. This amp reproduces all of my music well and faithfully. Why not five stars? Well, there's one thing about it that bugs the hell out of me : IT IS TOTALLY BLACK. The case is black, the front is black, and all the controls are black. Sitting in your listening chair, you can't tell where the hell you are with the volume knob (I finally painted a white dot on it), the tone knob, or the balance knob. You have to have a little flashlight near the unit to see where is pointed to what. ONKYO PLEASE TAKE NOTE. Oh yes, there is a remote control and it works great, no complaints there. So, if you are looking for a very good integrated amplifier for a very good price, I strongly recommend this splendid unit. Just put it in a well lighted room or keep your flashlight handy! ... show more

I was looking for a no-frills stereo amp for listening to classical CD's. This one really delivers. Advertised as 'sounding good at low volume' convinced me to try it and it certainly does. Side by side with amps featuring 2x the wattage and nearly twice as expensive this amp was the clear winner. There's no Blu-tooth, phono pre-amp, surround sound, etc. Just volume, bass, treble, balance, phased bass (loudness?), and line inputs. Every dollar of it's price seems to have gone toward making it sound great. PS, using it to drive Infinity 6 speakers, the 4-16ohm speaker setting was also a selling point. ... show more
