Description

Life gets pretty boring when you can beat the snot out of any villain with just one punch.Nothing about Saitama passes the eyeball test when it comes to superheroes, from his lifeless expression to his bald head to his unimpressive physique. However, this average-looking guy has a not-so-average problem—he just can’t seem to find an opponent strong enough to take on!Immediately before the big Monster Association battle, the Class-S heroes hold a strategy meeting. Unfortunately, they just aren’t in sync, and when Amai Mask barges in, the situation only gets worse. Thankfully, King appears just in time to boost their morale—and it’s a good thing, too, because suddenly the big monster battle begins! Read more

  • Great
The art and story are great in this vol

  • Inching closer to the "main event" invasion of Monster Central
The S-Class hero attack team meets at headquarters to exchange information and strategy, but the conference turns into bickering ... well, that's almost a comics tradition, isn't it? -- and almost inevitable given the presence of personalities like Tornado, and Amai Mask, who has promoted himself to the first-rank team. Meanwhile the heroes excluded from the team due to mistrust discover what's going on, and make their own plans to participate in the invasion of the monsters' underground warren. King figures in both situations -- he may not have S-class (or any) physical powers, but he does almost seem to have some kind of aura that can cause both confusion / mistaken assumptions, and conciliation. The attack team and a backup support team are airlifted to City Z, and encounter a monster ambush that has them heavily outnumbered. Tornado takes on the monsters' strongest individual, a menacing psychic, and ... And then the story kinda switches into a lower gear. The support team consists of fifteen A, B, and even C-class heroes, most of whom we've never seen before (or if they had appeared previously I've forgotten them). A number of pages have already been spent introducing some of them, and now quite a few more pages are dedicated to putting them into action against monster cannon fodder -- kind of entertaining, quite a bit of humor involved, but it delays, yet again, the launch of the "main event", the descent of the S-Class attack team into the monster lair. Some of the support team appear quite capable, some quite quirky, incuding the Amazonian "Captain Mizuki", who manages to turn battling monsters into a Track & Field event, some questionable, like Gearsper (C-Class 133), whose ESP helmet seems to be nonfunctional today -- why is he even there? Did nobody else answer their phone? Did Garo's 'hero hunting' so deplete the ranks that he's the best available? Oh, never mind. The other C-class hero on the team is Poison, rank 300, but he appears considerably more capable than Gearsper -- looks like maybe he's the absolute newest hero in town, hence has the lowest rank - ?? Things pick up a little at the book's end with the entrance of the monster Rhino Wrestler, with his penchant for rating the efforts of heroes opposing him. One-Punch Man on occasion uses the manga convention that individuals in certain emotional or agitated states are sometimes depicted as line-drawing cartoons, rather than in the art style of the rest of the book. It happens a lot with Tornado, in particular. Is there a name for that? (Darn it -- now that Amazon has eliminated the "comment" feature, nobody can answer that question for me!) I find it irritating -- for me it breaks up the flow of the story. Oh well. I still found this a pretty fun book, but I'm getting a bit impatient for the heavy hitters to go into action. ... show more

  • Best Volume Yet
Best volume yet in the series. I usually don't keep up with comics anymore but One Punch is an exception.

  • Still Enjoyable
Still loving the manga; just wish the volumes would come out in English faster. I remember the second anime season of OPM ending ahead of the English manga release.

  • One Punch!
Cool Volume I Look Forward To Seeing How The Hero Association Infiltrates The Monster Association Hideout Entertaining Manga As Always 👊🏾
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 15, 2020 by Travis

  • Worst book in the series thus far - only buy if you're invested in the OPM universe
2/5 stars is a courtesy as a fan of the series. I have watched season 1 and 2 of the anime, and I have read the entire manga vol. 1-19, multiple times. I have purchased the OPM video game on the PS4 as well and played through that hot trash, but thankfully it's not representative of the OPM universe or interest of most fans. The art is amazing, as always. Nothing much to say here beyond it has kept up with the previous expectations. The real problem is the story and direction they have taken with books 19 and 20. The story in book 20 revolves around class A heroes that were created solely for this book (maybe for ongoing books?) and 1 street fight between those class A heroes that you've never heard of and low-tier monster association creatures that are meaningless to the story. You wont see any relevant monster association creatures in this book that you've heard of in prior books. This book quite literally does not move the story forward in any way, and seems to be 90% filler. Saitama and friends (genos/king/bang/blizzard) make up approximately 15 pages of the 193 pages that comprise this book. Saitama is featured in 1/15 of those pages. No dialogue. --------SPOILERS-------------------------------- I wont address book 19 since this review is written on book 20, but it has it's own problems that i would caution against purchasing it. Book 20, literally speaking, has 1 page of Saitama, and it's an image of him in the sewer monster lair walking/looking, and zero dialogue. That's it. The main characters Bang/King/Genos/Blizzard make up approx 15 pages of the book, and add zero story value other than letting you know they are preparing to enter the big fight against the monster association. It's 2 scenes across approx 15 pages, of king and bang at the hero association HQ stating they will enter the fight, then move to scene 2 of them meeting up with Genos and Blizzard at Saitama's apartment to find that Saitama has gone missing, then cut to "scene" 3 of an image of saitama in the sewer, no dialogue. 1/3 of the book is class S heroes talking about fighting the monster association... literally.. they are sitting around the table talking for 1/3 of the book. The other 2/3's of the book is a street fight between class A heroes (that you've never seen before, literally zero story about these random heroes prior to this book) and random low-tier monsters that have never been discussed in the prior books. This equates to 2/3's of the book showcasing about 15 class A heroes that you've never heard of, showing their "super moves" against monsters that you've never heard of, in a fight that is seemingly meaningless. The fight is taking place in the streets, and seems to have no impact to the main story what-so-ever. It's literally, the definition of filler in a story, that has no impact what-so-ever to the universe. This is wildly disappointing. Books 19 and 20, as a fan... i'd almost say a super fan... of the series and OPM universe, really make me feel like they are wrapping this up in a sloppy way and have no interest in continuing the universe forward after this "season"//book 24. Book 7 marked the end of season 1, and book 16 marked the end of season 2. If they continue this trend of 7-8 books per season, I expect book 24~ to be the ending. I am reserving hope that they don't vomit more of this trash like book 20 at us, and that they fill books 21-24 with real story content, as they have proven to do before, so that they don't end this amazing series and universe on filler content to get to the final fight and conclusion. ... show more
