I've only been fishing twice with this reel, and I'm quite new to fishing in general so I may be missing some things an experienced fisherman may know. When I first opened the box I could see that it was clearly made with quality in mind. It's easy to put together (I'd assume most are) and it is very solid, when you crank on the reel it doesn't feel like it's flexing or going to break at all. The spool where the line goes is what looks like machined aluminum and the bearings on the handle somehow make it have less than .005" backlash with the gears. The reel casts well with the rod I bought and reels in fish just as well. I recommend this reel if you're a first timer and just learning from youtube videos! ... show more

Update on 9/24/2018 - I have made contact with the seller of this product and they have been amazing and quick in resolving my issue. I'm very thankful for this. Update on 9/23/2018 - I have further lowered the rating on this item because of an issue that I have found with the drag and I have contacted the seller. I started out looking for a nice reel for my trout rod and saw this. It seemed very reasonably priced for the features that it described so I decided to try one out (I normally use PENN Battle or Spinfisher reels). It arrived on time and packaged well. It seems to be solidly constructed, it is VERY lite weight and it is machined well, It is large for it's size compared to other reels (I got the 1000 and it is sized more like other brands 2500-3000 sizes). I did find that the distance between where it mounts to the rod and the bail wire was shorter than other brands so as a result the bail wire hits my knuckles when I'm reeling line in. To me the most important part of the reel is the drag. If you have ever used HT-100 drags on PENN reels, then you know that they are silky smooth and you are able to make very small adjustments with the knob. That is NOT the case with the drag on this reel. I found it sticky/jerky and each "click" of the knob made a relatively large change in the pressure applied so I was not pleased with this. I may try opening the drag and applying some PENN grease to it and see if that improves it (if anyone out there has tried something like this - please let me know). I have not tried using it in saltwater yet so I can not comment on the durability in that environment. If you are not a "professional" fisher, I think that this is a very well made reel (other than the drag) for the price that you pay. If I find any tricks to improving the drag or if I take it saltwater fishing, I will update the review. ... show more

Bought the reel originally as the backup reel for my ci4+ to fish crappie. Went to fish crappie with dad and his old okuma died. Dad took the red DL1000 and asked me, “you got another ci4+“? “Yeah? maybe it is”. “Let me try”. Dad put the reel onto his rod and fished the rest afternoon. “Dam, this ‘ci4’ is so smooth and light, so good for crappie fishing”. This is a piece of junk! After just one cast, my line bird nested quite severely and after the second cast, I noticed a clanging sound as I reeled. Then, it stopped flipping to reeling position from casting position as I tried to reel. I had to do it manually and the clanging sound got worse. There is no grind feel , no noise BUT when I "flick" the handle it stops as soon as my finger comes off the handle like it's put together too tight inside . They many bearings being that stiff doesn't give me confidence that it'll last more than this season . It's lightweight , feels well built and easy on the eyes . Drag worked as advertised as well . If things loosen up as the season goes on I'll revisit this review and adjust accordingly . ... show more

Nothing to dislike, will most definitely buy a couple more in different sizes for my other rods... I put this one on my Okuma 11 foot rod I use for surf fishing. We have pretty rough surf on the pacific coast of Washington, swells tend to run up the beach farther than they do else where...... handles the pull of a double 1-2 pound surf perch hook up plus the drag as the surf runs out. Though I don’t recommend using more than a 2 ounce weight with it. But that’s more than plenty if you use pancake (flat weights ) if you need more ? Surfs to rough, fish won’t bite and it’s kinda dangerous to be out as your standing in the surf, we’re not Southern California. Can’t sand dance ... show more
