  • Inexpensive and sturdy, but complex, too tall, and can be painful!
Color: Black
I've been using the same Quik Lok 2-tier "X" stand for over 22 years to hold my 88-key keyboards (Nord Stage 2, Kurzweil PC88) with few complaints, and that stand's design makes it very easy for one person to set up and fold down at gigs/practices. It's limited on choices of height adjustment, but its quality and simplicity are its strengths. I wanted to buy a second stand that will remain in my home studio so that I don't have to keep dragging the X-stand up and down stairs each week when I go for gigs/practices. This On-Stage Z stand will handle that task for me, but I have a couple of complaints. While this stand is very stable and good for studio use where you'll be configuring it and leaving it set up for a while, I do not recommend it for gigging or dragging to practice sessions unless you have a roadie to set it up for you (ha!). There are too many knobs to loosen/remove, and too many pieces to carry and re-adjust each time you set it up. It gets tiresome after just a couple times of going through the break-down & set up process. A major complaint is that the vertical height adjustment for the lower keyboard does not allow the key bed of, say, a Nord Stage 2, to be set at standard piano height. (That's about 28.25" from floor to top of white keys.) This is important if you plan to sit at a standard piano bench height. With this stand at its lowest height adjustment, my Nord key bed was about 32" from the floor. That's OK for playing while standing, but not great while sitting. So I needed to modify their design by marking then drilling four additional adjustment holes (using a 1/4" drill bit), spacing the holes one-inch apart, above the holes that were already there. (This is on the diagonal of the "Z".) I have the tools and skills needed to do this, but I can see it being a deal-breaker for those who won't bother with such modifications. My final nit-pick is that I wish the stand had a softer edge for part of the "Z" the rests on the floor. Call me a Bohemian, but at home I usually wear socks but no shoes (I know -- scandalous!). Accidentally stepping on the edge of this stand is a real pain-in-the-foot! If the front of the floor piece was tapered/rounded or even had a slip-on rubber-ish cover, it would be less painful. Overall, for its price, this is a sturdy, adjustable stand, but it could be greatly improved with just a couple of minor design changes. ... show more

  • Great Heavy Duty Keyboard Stand - with one important consideration.
Color: Black
On-Stage KS7365EJ Pro Heavy-Duty Folding-Z Keyboard Stand with 2nd Tier Being a keyboard guy since 1968 and owning my 1st Wurlitzer portable piano I realized that weight and removable legs were important. Back then we were all young and strong so 100 lb. and screw-off support legs were valuable. SO: Let's talk about 47 years of tech development to further Easy Transportation of equipment to and from the gig. This is a Great Heavy Duty Keyboard stand the Does Not Pass The Break- down and Portability Test for Ground Floor Music Studio and our CrossFire 'The Band', Las Vegas. WHY? Because we have to Break It Down to fit into the SUV or Truck Bed. PROBLEM WITH DESIGN: This stand CANNOT be Taken Apart without Destroying the PLASTIC guides (bushings for lack of a better word) that are placed inside of the adjustable metal Stand Parts. BROKEN broken and more breakage happens each time we dis-assemble the stand for transportation. These Plastic Parts are the result of a Design Flaw. DOES the stand still work???? Yes because the tightening (screw down) Knobs are functional without all of the plastic 'bushings' that keep the metal from touching the metal. “Design Quality for Durability’ is my motto when purchasing. “Lean into the Creative” watch out for “The Tec-Man Takeover” Randy Turner Ground Floor Music Studio Henderson, NV. • Mine required end user re-manufacturing.
Color: Black
This is my third attempt at a decent somewhat portable stand - and is by far the best yet. It is quite solid when fully assembled and tightened down. I have a NI S88 on the lower and an S60 on the upper with no worry about stability. Couple of problems though - First problem was - the top of the Z stand is not symmetrical - there is a left and a right part in the assembly of this. I got two right parts and as such the hole on that side would not line up for the welded nut while attaching the riser. I puzzled around with this for a while, figuring I was missing something in the assembly sequence, but nope. It ships partially assembled and I got two 'right' top Z rails. What to do? I could pack it all back up and return it - or - lay out and drill a new hole. I chose the latter. With that done I was able to complete the basic assembly. Knowing how to mark and drill holes in steel would come in handy again as - Second problem is the stand is not drilled to sit low enough. Not sure how this got by the design team. I am 6'3" and the hight of my 88 was about three inches too high when set to the lowest pre-drilled setting. Time to drill again - and again, no big deal - just annoyed that I had to. The last nit is there was a good sized ding in the end of the square top tube facing me as seated. It had to happen in the factory - as there were zero marks in the packaging to indicate it was shipping related. It gouged the rubber plug and left a sharp bur on the facing edge of that top tube. Solution was to pull the plug and file off the bur - again, not a big deal. Perhaps mine was made and assembled on a Wednesday but - IF you don't have a drill, some files, and some skills working metal - you may want to think about this purchase. if you do - then once you are done - It is an heavy duty solid stand. ... show more
