  • Disappointing for the Price - Better Options Available for Cheaper
Color: Orchid
I would like to consider myself a crispy-clothes, ironing enthusiast!! I am always searching for the best at-home steam irons, spray starches- all of the things to keep my clothes crispy without having to constantly go to the dry cleaners! Recently, I have been on the hunt for the very best mini/travel sized iron i could find. I have 2 small children and have been struggling to iron their tiny clothes with my standard size iron as it either just didn't fit in small tiny arms and leg holes, or it would just end up getting more creases in the outfits than they had when i started due to the irons size. In addition, I love to sew for my children so again, the need for a small sized iron for pressing seams, ironing out patterns, etc. etc. was pertinent! After trying the Rowenta Travel Iron, the Steamfast mini iron and the Sunbeam Travel Iron, i still felt like i was missing out because i had yet to try the Oliso; the most expensive mini iron i had seen - what i had expected would be my end all be all... So i finally bit the bullet and ordered the Oliso.... and much to my surprise and dismay, it was quite a disappointment... Below i will go over my thoughts and Pros and Cons: So, to start with the Pros of the iron: - Heat/Wattage - This iron did seem to get pretty darn hot when set to level 3. Heat power was definitely one of my main criteria when shopping and searching for the perfect mini/travel iron, so the 1000W of the Oliso was a big pro for me. High wattage gives the most pressing and steaming power, and most other steam irons of this size i have seen or tried only have between 400-800 watts. - Sole Plate Size - the soleplate size was great. It wasn’t too big to get into small or tight corners/areas of little children's clothes, but it also wasn't so small i felt like i was ironing for eons on the same garment. The tip of the soleplate is extended a bit past where it connects to the body so it was really great for getting into those small spaces and getting crisp corners when sewing. Now, for the CONS of this iron.... - TEMPERATURE DIAL CHANGES WHILE IRONING - As i was ironing i kept feeling like the iron would stop working after about 5-10 minutes and i was getting really frustrated. I would lick my finger and touch the sole plate and sure enough, even though i had set the iron to level ••• 3 (the hottest) my finger didn’t make the "sizzzzzz" sound that it does when you know your iron is ready and hot. Every time I noticed this happening, i noticed shortly after that the temperature dial had somehow been adjusted to a lower setting than what i had set it to. I realized this was due to how your hand is positioned on the iron (at least this is true if you’re right handed); the way your hand naturally (and comfortably) holds and rests on the iron body, the interior of your index finger slides against the temp dial and bit by bit, the natural movement of your hand on the iron turns the dial down to the lower settings. This was HUGELY frustrating. **And to ensure i wasn't holding the iron wrong, i reviewed the tips on this product page above and i was holding the iron exactly how Oliso has demonstrated to do so. - STEAM FUNCTION - The steam function on this iron was less than impressive. For starters, it hardly holds any water at all. I like a good steam and in know its a very small iron, but the water tank seemed extraaaaa small. I thought this would be annoying because I fly through the water tank on my large iron, which has a very large water tank capacity and an excellent steam feature... Well, worrying about constantly refilling the tank on the Oliso didn't end up being an issue because i could hardly use the steam feature at all anyway. For starters, it takes a while to heat up (you have to wait for the light to come on on the steam buttons before steam is ready), but even if you do get the steam heated up to be ready, your hand will adjust the temp setting unbeknownst to you and so in 2 seconds the iron will be too cool to have steam anyway! If, and when, you do get the steam setting up and working, its like a ‘puffffffff’of steam. Not a good strong flow, just a weak ‘puff’… and worse, IT LEAKS! Each time I tried the steam it would leak water out of every hole on the soleplate. Imagine in just a few uses if any rust or residue was in the holes it would have ruined whatever I was trying to iron! Poor steam function and leaks. - SILICONE RESTING PLATE GETS HOT! – To be fair, I didn’t see the instructions that you had to turn the iron down to level • 1 setting (the coolest) every time you wanted to rest the iron until after I discovered how hot the silicone resting pad would get…. But even so! How annoying to have to turn the iron down every time you want to rest it!! You might as well just plan to only use setting • 1 when you iron if that is the case! And if you’re stuck using setting • 1 (unless you’re constantly turning down and up the temp dial) then what is the point of even having 1000 watts anyway?! Any who, if you do decide to rest the iron on the silicone pad for even 15 seconds or so on setting •• 2 or ••• 3, that puppy gets HOT. Luckily, I had the silicone pad resting on my ironing board, but if you had it resting on a table or surface that didn’t handle heat well, it could transfer the heat and cause damage to your surface. - CORD POSITION PREVENTS STANDING IRON ON END – Per all of the above regarding the silicone resting pad, the natural solution would be to rest the iron up on its back end like normal to avoid having to use the resting pad at all.., But, because of how the power cord is attached to the iron, you cannot rest the iron upright on its back end, making the resting plate the only resting place for your iron when you’re not actively ironing it. - 1 HOUR TO COOL DOWN – last con for this iron – the cool down time. From being heated on setting ••• 3 then unplugging, it took over an hour for my iron to cool down enough that I could pack it back up in its box to be returned. This seemed really long for me and again, with young children around and them constantly reaching for everything “mommy” is doing, this could have become quite the inconvenience when trying to pack away your ironing tools ... show more

  • Why the "4"?
Color: Turquoise
Why the "4" rating when all else are "5's", you ask? Because, it doesn't get as hot or steam as much as I had hoped. Maybe if I had read the description better I would have realized this. Also, experiencing similar products gives you a better chance of selecting exactly what you want or expect. It is very nice, quality is high and it works. I bought this one because this brand has been advertised heavily in the sewing/crafting circles, highly rated. The steam vents are at the upper 1/4-1/3 of the sole plate therefore you are not getting as much steam but this is probably because it is so small. But, all and all, I'm happy with it. Later: The unattached silicone sole plate is somewhat smaller than the iron sole plate itself. There is probably a reason for this. If you want to set it down while still a little hot it doesn't fit this sole plate and makes it difficult to rest. The moveable cord is very stiff and doesn't move to the side well thus making it hard to rest the iron on its' tale, so-to-speak. So, it is difficult to rest this iron between ironing sessions. I have another large silicone iron plate that I rest it on, making it fine for me. However, if I didn't have it I might be a little put out. ... show more

  • Perfect travel iron for quilt retreats
Color: Orchid
I love that’s it’s a bit heavier than a-lot of the mini irons. Downside is you can’t use the highest setting because it gets too hot to hold

  • The Perfect Size
Color: Turquoise
It seemed like a silly purchase but MAN it’s SO handy to get into tight spots! My regular iron is great for long and large areas but it’s rounded tip just doesn’t allow for the precision that this little guy does. Ironing down the seams of a quilt block with a LOT of seams is much easier when you’re not worrying about a big iron ironing over your previous work. This is perfect! ... show more

  • Excellent iron
Color: Orchid
Like that it’s small but gets really hot when needed. Only thing is I wish it was cordless since I use in my craft room and have so many corded things already. Love the color and the plate to cover and also set it on.
