I love the look of the containers but two of them arrived with broken seals. One wasn't attached and the other was barely hanging on. That's not a problem for me but maybe it is for someone else.

These look beautiful in my kitchen. They were even nicer than I expected. I did not have a problem with any strong odors. I washed them in warm soapy water prior to use. Only one of the canisters did not have a tight seal, but it is workable.
