These canvases are really nice. They're a smaller size so great for beginners because they aren't really intimidating. I like the retro travel poster vibes. I agree with other reviewers that the first thing you should do is take a nice close up of the unpainted canvas in case you make a mistake and need to reference the blank template. Usually paint by number kits come with an enlarged black and white print of the design in case you need to reference a number placement. As far as the easel quality, I assumed that the easel was for display and not to use during painting, so I think the quality is fine for what it is. I see it as a bonus and not a working part of the kit. The paint for this kit is the standard quality that you get in nearly every paint by number out there. The paint isn't artist quality acrylic paint. It isn't even student quality grade. Some colors will be streaky and you will need multiple coats. That's ok, its normal for even some high quality paints. It has to do with the pigments and binders. For example, bright reds will almost always be transparent. The same goes with most yellows, unless it is pastel yellow. Pastel yellow has a white base added to the pigment so it has better coverage. Some browns, greens, and purples are like this. It isn't an indicator of quality, in my opinion. You can easily fix this by adding in a drop of a similar tone that is lighter or pre-painting your reds with a light coat of gray. I have done over 50 paint by numbers and I've never had a kit where every single color had good coverage. It just doesn't happen. I wouldn't consider it a quality issue unless the paints have separated, dried out, or have weird chunky textures. That is not the case with this kit. Do yourself a favor and find some affordable brushes. This kit comes with three brushes. Sometimes you get 3 good brushes, sometimes you don't. These come standard with almost every kit out there. If your brush is weird, you can trim off any stray bristles. You can also trim down one of the brushes to make it easier to get into those small areas. I have painted canvases with the provided brushes, but it's honestly a better experience to get a set of affordable brushes. You can find them for the price of this kit or less. ... show more

In the end, the paintings turned out nicely. The good: There was plenty of paint for these small canvases. The numbers were clearly printed (but do take photos of the unpainted canvas before you begin, because some of the tinier spaces have numbers on the lines). The paint colors were vibrant. Some of them are more transparent hand others, and it doesn’t have to do with lightness or darkness of shade. One of the darkest oranges was quite transparent, while a couple of the near-whites were opaque. It was fun, though. The two I’ve completed so far took me about 6 hours each to complete. Then after they dried, I went back the next day for maybe 30 minutes to give a second coat to any numbers I could see peeking through, and even out the color of the more transparent paints. A couple of things would have made the kit better. First, the easel should not be used. It’s so small that the top point is pressing into the canvas. There’s also nothing to keep it from just kinda collapsing. The ledge that it sits on is not fastened in any way, and the three legs just swing wildly on the pivot. Second, the reference photos are so small they’re also unusable. I had the forethought to take photos of them beforehand so I could magnify if I needed to. But they’re actually poorly printed and blurry, so it doesn’t help much with small detail. Those are minor issues, overall. And honestly I could do without a better easel. I don’t understand not offering a clear reference photo, though. Surely fixing that would be cheap. ... show more

i love doing paint by numbers, so this pack of 4 immediately caught my eye. they are all such pretty landscape pictures to paint. the only thing is that the numbers can be quite hard to read in some areas, and especially in smaller areas can even overlap outside of the lines indicated, making them hard to read when you paint over it in the surrounding areas. the canvas also weirdly folds over the sides, which can be hard to paint. this is also extremely time consuming. while the canvases aren't big, there are many many tiny details to paint, so you could spend hours painting just one little corner. unless this is your cup of tea (like it is for me), i wouldn't recommend it if you wouldn't have the patience (or neck strength lol). ... show more
