Im impressed with this scanner. It tells you most of what you need to diagnose your vehicle. I have a much higher end bidirectional scanner but it also cost alot more. This scanner is small and at a good price. This one is perfect to leave in the car. I never use to work on my cars but with a scanner and a little research, you can save alot of money. At the very least this will allow you to get an idea of what could be wrong with your vehicle. Unfortunetly alot of dishonest shops will say you have to do this or that. This tool will at least give you some ability to not get taken on repairs. If your considering, try it. If you dont like it, someone will buy it from you. ... show more

I am an intermediate to advanced DIY person. Although I have another more expensive bi-directional scanner I decided to purchase this lower cost scanner to test and possibly gift to a relative. I tested on a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, a 2007 Chevy Corvette and 2011 Chevy Tahoe. The scanner worked well on all vehicles and it was surprisingly fast. I checked emissions related issues or other codes, performed a live data scan and checked the battery voltage when off and also while charging. The scanner worked flawlessly on each vehicle. If you want to diagnose further using mode 6 or 8 that is available as well. The scanner comes with a manual but I didn’t need to use it because the user interface and navigating the screens was very intuitive. It comes with a USB cable if you want to turn on the unit when not connected to the OBD port and to print documents or update from a PC. Otherwise it powers up when plugged into the OBD.     • Nice Compact OBD2 Scanner
This is a lightweight, compact OBD2 that is very fast - my older one took forever to retrieve information - with long delay times. No one should own a motor vehicle today without having an OBD2 scanner in their glove compartment. OBD scanners can quickly allow you to assess a check engine light or other fault code. When your vehicle "throw a CEL code" half-way between 29 Palms and the Arizona border, it is essential that you be able to determine whether you can "clear the code" and continue driving or whether you must pull over and park it. As with most standard OBD2 scanners, this scanner does not help hybrid battery or EV vehicle owners. It would be nice to be able to assess hybrid battery status, since electric motor enhancements are being incorporated into more vehicles every year. Standard OBD scanners provide no hybrid battery data, other than info on the error code that the hybrid battery generates, ie "replace Hybrid Battery Pack". Myself, I own a Prius as well as standard gasoline powered vehicles. The OBD scanner works for both of them, especially the Prius, which is "code crazy", whereby it throws codes which can be safely cleared - thus you can continue driving sometimes for months or years. The most beneficial aspect of an OBD reader is preparing for a smog check - this reader allows you to view each smog "monitor", such as CAT, EVAP, etc, - as conglomerate picture of all the monitors as they fall into the "green status" after clearing all codes. If the OBD2 tells you there are "no trouble codes", you are good to go for a smog check. Therefore, if you have to make a diagnosis as to why your CEL keeps coming on, the code number and corresponding diagnostic data available on the internet, is basically all you need to know in order to fix the problem yourself, or take it to the mechanic. The corresponding CEL code will tell you exactly what smog component is failing, as well as most engine problem failures. Overall, OBD scanners are not cheap - because they are so important, they can't be cheap. ... show more

I have a cheap code reader I bought a few years back. It works fine but not a lot of info. I decided to upgrade to this one. Definitely has more bells and whistles than my older one. I find it very easy to use and understand. I like that you can actually look up meanings of the codes it throws, and it comes with instructions and a USB cord so you can hook it up to your computer to get updates. Being able to check on the battery power is also very useful and will keep you updated on when you need to change it out before it dies on you and leaves you in a fix.....if you own a 986 Porsche Boxster, you know what I'm talking about. Even though in Oklahoma we don't have Smog checks, it's still nice to be able to check how your system is doing. As of now, I feel this has definitely been a good upgrade. Even though it doesn't cover everything on my car, I feel I have a lot more information at my fingertips and can narrow down the process of finding issues. I got this to replace my old OBD2 scanner that I used to have. This one is excellent and super easy to use. It can even check battery voltage and a bunch of other information with ease and it's quick. It's compatible with just about anything with an OBD2 it worked on a 2022 Ford Explorer so even the newest stuff. I think for the price it's a good tool to add into your collection. ... show more

I have been using this scanner for one week and I'd say it is a descent tool for a "home mechanician". The tool is generally responsive and provides abundant features, including battery test that is not even available on my $800 tool. Pretty love it. The only thing is, in some of the menu items, there are some weird prefix. Don't know what they mean. Also, sometimes there are ECU 1 and ECU 2 in my case, and I have to try which one is the correct one. Not a big deal and I think it can be improved in firmware update in the future. For some reason it can't read my O2 sensor data. Hopefully this can be resolved later via update. That being said, I think for the money it is a good tool for some simple DIY work in general. ... show more
