  • Don't listen to the negative reviews
I debated over this cooler for weeks because of the negative comments about CAM and the defective pump problems. After my internal struggle with what to get I finally said "why not" and wanted to take a leap of faith on this one. I've had it set up for the past 2 weeks now and haven't had ONE single problem with CAM nor the cooler. The CAM issues are WIDELY over exaggerated, DO NOT LISTEN to these reviews, this is a very nice cooler! Keep in mind people tend to write reviews for their bad experience more than their good ones. I'm the exception because there are people out there who need to know there is absolutely nothing to worry about with the Kraken x62 ... show more

  • NZXT has a well earned reputation for its terrible CAM software and you need it to configure your Kraken.
It performed better than the reviews led me to believe it would on noise, cooling capability with a 2700x CPU running 24x7 Folding @ home. Control the fans by connecting the to your motherboard headers. You want to use the CAM controlling software as little as possible. The current version when I assembled the machine was fine, caused no issue, and it obeyed my settings to not poll/monitor other hardware. In the two most recent revisions it attempts to read from my motherboard's custom chip for monitoring non standard equipment and it causes a hard crash every time. Hard crash being defined here as the motherboard freaks out cutting power, and will not come back on until you switch off the power supply AND the standby voltage in capacitors in the PSU has cleared. Fortunately, CAM takes its sweet time getting around to snooping where I told it not to so I was able to get it uninstalled easily, hastily without going into safe mode. Unfortunately the CAM software is required to set the pump speed, if you're silly enough to hook your fans into the Kraken instead of the motherboard your radiator fans, and control the color scheme. Powering off a computer it is installed into long enough to clear the standby voltage is long enough for it to go to default LED scheme and you have to use CAM to reset it. It doesn't seem to retain pump speed settings so you are stuck with it. Hopefully a future revision of CAM will fix this problem but data corruption roulette is a crappy game to play for essentially aesthetics. If i had it to do over again knowing what I know now... I would probably have spent more money to do a Noctua NF-A12x25 swapped Corsair H150 or H115 and skipped the NEARLY unforgivable problems with the control side of NZXT, let alone the spying aspect which I also find intolerable. I will deal with it for the next year or two and simply throw it away (despite having a week left to return it) and go with something else. I would advise you avoid NZXT AIOs until they establish a couple years worth of trouble free CAM software releases. Believe the haters on the internets... In NZXT CAM's case, it is well earned and long, long running. Final Update 10-05-2018: I replaced the x62 that was fan swapped with Noctua NF-A14 fans (much quieter and better performing than the supplied NZXT fans) with a Noctua fan swapped NF-a12x25 NH-D15 SE-AM4 heatsink assmebly. Temps went up 2c-4c degrees at maximum loading but kept the same boost clocks, performance. The system CPU actually runs slightly cooler in gaming and idle/light duty usage So my Peak temp worst case with the Noctua solution is 68C in Prime 95 small FFt vs 65c with the kraken audible. The Noctua solution is so quiet I have to put my ear physically on the case to hear anything where with the Kraken x62, I could alwaysat least hear the pump noise. The pump was relatively quiet, scratching my arm would drown out the pump noise, but it was annoying to hear. For many reasons, I suggest you use anything but NZXT. I gave the x62 away. ... show more

  • If it doesn't work the first time, just try and try again.
So after reading all the hype about how great the Kraken is, I decided to swap out my DeepCool Captain 240ex and see if this was any better. I went with the x62.2 version and mounted it into my NZXT S340 elite. Perfect match right? Well no, first problem: On the Asus Crosshair 6 Hero the ram is very close to the CPU socket. So I couldn't mount the pump in the straight position. I had to angle it in such a way that now the logo was not centered. Oh well I guess, let's see if it's worth making my OCD bug out every time I look at my pc. Everything is installed and fire up the PC. Instant error. CPU over temp won't boot. Remove, reapply paste, reseat, reboot. CPU over temp. GRRRR. Ignore cpu over temp and boot into windows. Launch CAM (which is horrible software!) and Pump rpm shows 0. Literally tried everything before finally contacting Amazon and NZXT to replace pump as google search show this a VERY common issue. Amazon of course was first to offer replacement and thank god for their great customer service. New pump will be here tomorrow, but at this point I'm looking into a different AIO. I will install it and give it a shot, but one more hiccup and it's in the trash can. So be careful for one if you have an AMD or some other platforms as well, you may not be able to mount the pump correctly and for two, if you get CPU temp issues, chances are the pump is DOA. Good luck! Update: 2nd pump came in today and thankfully is running perfectly. Hopefully no further issues will arise. Now that the cpu is properly being cooled I can comment on how effective it is. I've used several different Air coolers as well as AIO's and I can say that the Kraken is the best looking one on the market. It is doing an amazing job keeping my overclocked 1700x at a cool 26 degrees at idle and so far an impressive 60 degrees under load. Coming straight from a DeepCool Captain 240ex, these temps are about 10-20 degrees cooler with no other changes then the AIO. Will continue with testing and see just how well it does. If you get a good pump, you should be good to go! ... show more

  • Kraken X62 is the best for your money.
I purchased the Kraken X62 (the updated version). I bought this because of all the hype and YouTube videos so I already knew what I was getting to an extent... But when it arrived, and I actually had it in my hands, I could tell that this was a quality product. Compared to my Corsair aio that I previously had, this thing is noticeably better in terms of aesthetics and raw performance. If you're on the fence about purchasing this as a replacement or for a first time aio then I would recommend it 100%. ... show more
