The NuWave PIC Double Induction Cooktop is very versatile as a supplemental cooking appliance or even as the primary unit (for maybe up to 3 people). It has all the advantages of any induction cooktop, i.e. efficient use of energy (by heating the pot or pan directly rather than a countertop as in a conventional electric stove), easy to clean, fast heating and cooling, temperature and power control, etc. This NuWave PIC Double unit specifically outshines other induction cooktops in several ways : - It has one of the largest heating coils in the market (8 inch diameter) - It has two identical burners that can be used simultaneously - It has a maximum power output of 1800 W (down selectable to 900 W) - It has a very large number of temperature settings (5 degree F steps) - It has an excellent capability for programming a temp/time profile for a complete cooking session, including delays for adding ingredients - It has 50 pre-programmed and up to another 50 user programmable profiles (or recipes) that are stored in non-volatile memory - It has a clock so users can either start or stop a cooking session at a pre-specified time - The overall layout, display panels are very pleasing and the unit is quite robust yet light enough to move it around In my opinion, the only feature missing is the ability to automatically adjust the two burners' power levels continuously while keeping the total power consumption at 1800 W (it currently switches to a fixed 900 W for both burners, regardless of the actually needed power levels). Also the NuWave customer support is very responsive to any pre-purchase question or concerns. I have not needed to contact them after the purchase yet. I bought this on the Black Friday deal at $160. I'm so glad I waited! I find these hobs to be really great for the precision cooking I would like. I've used it with and without a thermometer and it's pretty accurate. I don't know why others want their Duxtops when they are clunky compared to NuWaves. As with all of the less than $500 PICs I've tried, hotter spots will develop after a while. Your gas and electric stovetops do the same thing. You know where to place the pan, how high to have the heat. The reason I marked this as 4 instead of 5 stars has to do with the manufacturer, who is selling this on Amazon as well as their own site. The model number of this one is is 30601. There is another NuWave double, ALSO model number is 30601, which they are Black-Fridaying for $172. They say this one is radiant heat and the $172-one is sealed heat. That is not true. They are IDENTICAL units. They both have SEALED HEAT and the same number of controls. These units must be some of an older shipment. And when this is gone, they will likely hike the price around $12. Take a look at their website. They were selling all 30601 for the same, with the foto from the "other" Amazon 30601. They sold out because of that. C'mon NuWave! You make a great PIC at a great pricepoint. I am 71 and single and never use my oven except on special occasions for a ham or turkey. I have owned a single burner NewWave induction cook top for the last 6 years and used it every day. It sat on top of my glass electric cooktop which I used rarely. After the years of use the buttons on the front of the unit were push buttons with a plastic cover over each on and over the years they started to crack became hard to clean. I like cooking two different things at the same time so when this went on sale I bought it and glad I did. Sleek looking and all the controls are a touch glass so I won't have the same problem I had with the other one and the fan noise is drastically reduced even with both burners running. I know I'll never use all the programming this thing has but it works great and is so much much more stylish and easy to clean. ... show more
