  • Be Intelligently Informed and Please Know What Your Buying Here!!!
I think this product has received a bad rap from a few people that are not very technically minded or objective. You have to understand what this product does AND what it doesn't do. First off, it does not remove the mineral content from your water and doesn't claim to do that. Traditional water softeners that use a "salt brine" and a regeneration media filter to remove the minerals from hard water are good in that they greatly reduce the mineral scale build-up on dishes and other hard surfaces around the home but, guess what? Humans and animals get a good portion of needed minerals from water. That is why RO (reverse osmosis) systems and traditional "salt brine" water softeners aren't recommended for your normal drinking water. And, if you use softened water from a traditional "salt brine" water softener to water your lawn and garden, you will most definitely kill it and any other vegetation you water with that water. This product doesn't work that way. It leaves the mineral content in the water but the citrus from the filter prevents the hard water minerals from causing scale build-up on hard surfaces that the water comes in contact with. The citrus causes the minerals not to stick to hard surfaces. So you kind of get the best of both worlds: No scale build-up on hard surfaces plus mineral supplements that are good for humans and animals. This was something I worried about for my dogs because I have a traditional water softener that uses a salt brine tank and I felt I was robbing beneficial minerals from my dogs who literally drink gallons of water everyday. One gentleman/woman claimed they bought one of these replacement filters for an existing system that was already in the home they recently purchased, and they started doing some homework on this this citrus-based product. They took out the old filter and dumped it out on the grass and it killed the grass! They also dumped some of the contents on their concrete and it etched the concrete! Well duh. Citric acid in high concentrations will do exactly that, but so will the salt brine from a traditional water softener. This is because citrus is very acidic and salt prevents osmosis or water absorption in plants. However, you can water your grass and plants with the water produced by this filter and it will not kill them. You just can't dump the contents of the filter directly onto your plants (OMG, that was a bit careless)!!! Now that being said, here are my unbiased comments: 1) Does the water taste good? I think so. It tastes crisp and thin, if you like that... I do. If when you go out to eat and order a lemon slice for your water, then maybe you like water a little crisper and a bit sharper, somewhat acidic. But don't get me wrong, This does not taste like water with lemon, or even close to that. It just tastes a little sharper, crisper, and thinner than say, hard well-water. I like ice-water because it changes the body of the water and makes it feel a little more crisp. I do not like a dull, thick tasting water like Fiji water, but to each his own, right? 2) Does the water produced from this filter cause mineral scale build-up? No, after a bout 2 months of usage, I have definitely noticed a difference with reduced, even no build-up. 3) Does the water produced from this filter remove existing mineral scale build-up? Yes, my stainless steel dog water bowls had quite a bit of mineral scale build-up and after two months, I have noticed significant reduction on the insides of those water bowls. 4) Are there any undesirable aspects of the water? Well, I have noticed that if you have small cuts or sores on your hands and fingers, you may notice a very minor sting from the water. Not at all like dipping an open cut in lemon juice, but dial that way back to almost nothing and you get the idea. Sometimes I notice it, other times I don't. 5) Would I recommend this product? Only to those who know what it does and what it doesn't do. Be informed and don't believe every person with a computer and time on their hands to rant (and that includes me!) Do your own research but be logical, fair and use common sense. Now, here are my comments about using this in a home filtration system: 1) This is not a water filter, but can be used in a multi-stage filtration system after filtering the water first with other filters and housings in the prior stages of a muti-stage system. 2) The filter housing that is offered by Nuvo for the "Manor" size cartridge system costs around $800-$1000. But the "Manor" cartridge works perfectly in a generic 20" x 4.5" "Big Blue" filtration housing that can be purchased on Amazon for under $100. 3) if you do purchase a generic filter housing, make sure you buy one with the clear sump so that you can see the cartridge inside the filter housing. This is NOT so you can periodically check the condition of the cartridge, but rather check the installation of the cartridge while you are screwing the sump on to the header. You need to be able to make sure the cartridge is not leaning or is mis-aligned inside the housing while the sump is being screwed on. This can easily happen, more so with this cartridge than with other standard filtration cartridges and it can damage your internal header port. ... show more

  • Works Great! Decreases Scale buildup and helped my eczema drastically! Conditions Water!
We have very hard water where we live. This filter does not soften your water (Giving it that slick/slimy feeling). This filter is a water conditioner. It basically makes it so that the scale in your water cannot connect to the surfaces, unless the water dries on the surface, wipes off much easier than without it though. We bought a squeegee for the shower to get most of the water off of the glass. Before we installed this, we could hardly see through the glass on our dishes and shower doors. Now with the nuvo H2O Manor, we have way less buildup and my eczema has all but gone away. I can actually tell when it is time to change the filter as my skin starts to get itchy and dry. I replace the filter every 10 months with a family of 5. I am a witness that NuVo H2O works as it is intended, much less work, no lugging salt into the house, less water wasted, no electricity needed, easy to install and maintain. I did it myself with no plumbing experience at the time. Remember, it does not soften water, it conditions it. We have delicious cold water and this does not effect the taste at all. ... show more

  • They seem to work...
the filter was received as promised, the packaging was consistent with the nature of this product and it was easy to install. I am not certain of its softening capability as the literature alludes to the fact that it controls the PH which is related more to acidity of the water than actual softness but I do notice some difference in the water without having the slick skin feeling that comes from salt solution softeners. for those who have this type water softener I certainly recommend getting the filters through Amazon. I have seen them in Home Depot but the convenience of Prime delivery is hard to beat. ... show more

  • Defective product
The cartridge was missing rubber O- ring seal. After installation, water continued to leak. Finally contacted the manufacturer and bought an O - ring seal. It cost me extra $60 for reinstallation and the cost of the O-ring seal from the manufacturer. Very disappointed with Amazon selling defective products. ... show more

  • fits well easy to install
you are pretty well locked in to using this cartridge if you have a Nuvo water softener system, that said it works well. the only down side is the messy old cartridge removal. but again it does the job and does it well. had a pellet water softener system in the past and this is much superior.

  • Leaves foul oder
Style: Manor Water Softening System
I bought and installed this unit in July of 23. I noticed very little if any difference in water spots. Then approximately 5 to six months later there was a sulfur egg smell coming from my water, I assumed that the filter was due to be replaced. I replaced the filter but still had the foul odor. So I installed a carbon based filter to help combat the odor. I changed the filter again July of 24, but this time I decided to bypass the filter and after flushing out the water lines the odor was gone. For whatever reason it seems that this citrus based filter is causing the foul odor coming from my water. I should mention that both times that I have changed the filter that I wiped clean the filter housing as recommended. After contacting the manufacturer, they offered to sell me a upgraded Nuvo Trio system. They also suggested that I have my water retested or have my well treated. ( I had already had my water tested its completely potable). My advise save yourself alot of money and find another system ... show more

  • Superb product
Style: Manor Water Softening System
All parts advertised were included. There will ALWAYS be other parts that need to be purchased to convert an old softener system and hot water heater to a new system. This company can not know what system you are converting from, so have a knowledgeable person do the installation. Luckily my husband is a hands on repair man so it went smoothly. We are on a well in the country, this system is proving to work as described. NO MORE SALT - WOOHOO! Pam (&Ric) ... show more
