Top Amazon Reviews

  • Sounds and looks great
First things first, Amazon, as always, delivered what they said they would deliver and it arrived when they said it would be there. I've always had good experiences with Amazon. The bass has exceeded my expectations. Usually when one reads "gig-bag", you might expect a lame canvas bag, but in the case of the WAV4, the bag is sturdy, well-made, has a nice compartment for the stand and is well padded. I pull the bass out and the amber sunburst is knurled and well finished, very attractive (disregarding it's resemblance to a certain english witch's broomstick). From the minute I plug it into my rig, it sounds exactly the way it's supposed to, which is like a full size upright bass. I haven't played upright in 30 years (just electric during that time) and I took to it like a duck to water. The scale takes some getting used to, of course, but NS Design placed a dot at every chromatic interval(where the frets would be). That makes it somewhat easier, but a little strange to look at in the beginning. Bass guitarists are used to seeing the dots at more irregular intervals, but this is easily overcome with some time. The controls are very simple and easy to understand. The "percussive" mode sounds like a bell with the striker starting each tone, very reminiscent of a full size instrument. The "sustain" mode still has the sound quality of an upright, but with a smoother attack and more rounded tone. Both will be useful in gig settings, but when I'm practicing, it's the percussive mode all the way 'cause it just sounds so cool. I'm tempted to pull out the Scott LaFaro recordings... All in all, I am extremely happy with this purchase and I recommend this product. I also want to add that the bridge design is ingenious, as it allow the bridge height to be adjusted up or down with a screwdriver. The action was slightly low when I got the instrument and was easily adjusted to my preference. ... show more
