Top Amazon Reviews

  • This is the best solution for the money and quality of protein it provides. Let me explain...
Size: 96 Servings (Pack of 1) Pattern Name: Nutrition
I’ll start off this review with a startling and unbelievable statement—I’m a bodybuilding Vegan. It’s been almost ten years since I climbed over the piles of rotting meat and dairy products, and I haven’t looked back since my blood pressure dropped to 115/75 and cholesterol level plummeted seventy points to 150. Triglycerides? A double-digit number. Not bad for a 60 year-old who eats tofu and vegetables, benches 225, squats a ridiculous 500lbs. and doesn’t indulge in dangerous experiments with needles. Was it easy to make this transformation? No. The food choices available from the start were limited, at least until I did the research. NOW Foods Sports Nutrition has not only made this transition easier with a few mouse clicks, it’s given other Vegans what they need, inexpensive quality protein and carbohydrates. This product, Pea Protein, is what it says, an easily-digested protein from peas, and I’ll use anywhere from 50-100g a day, depending on my routine. It works fantastic. Not bad for one ingredient. You may have noticed I mentioned NOW also makes a carbohydrate supplement. It’s called Carbo Gain. But why mention it here? As many have seen, there are way, waaaay too many one-star reviews for this protein product mixing bad and tasting like chalk. I believe one person declared in dramatic fashion “IT'S SOOOOOOOOOOO BAD. So, so, so bad” and concluded it’s mixability was “0/10”. <slaps forehead> It’s described as unflavored. It’s not going to knock you off your feet like a great-tasting Vegan pizza. Any protein powder with no other ingredients is going to taste like chalk. What they need is a little help. One day—in-a-hurry-to-get-to-work act of desperation—I tossed ½ cup of this pea protein into a 48oz. container half-full of distilled water along with ½ cup of Carbo Gain. To my surprise—once covered—it mixed completely with some energetic shaking and—Wow!—the chalky taste disappeared. Not bad for a complete bodybuilding shake. I’ve also tried this with filtered tap water, and it still mixed without problems—I believe distilled makes it smoother and taste better, but it’s not necessary. Try this recipe with some creatine powder tossed in and it will still mix without problems. You can’t beat it for the overall cost, convenience and the 500lb squats you’ll get out of it. Ok, you’ll have to work on the last part yourself. Have fun! ... show more

  • Like eating dirt but then you’ll start to love it?
Size: 27 Servings (Pack of 1) Pattern Name: Nutrition
I have a dairy allergy so my options are limited. This has an aggressively grainy texture and kind of an earthy taste. I had to get used to it. But after that first time, I started to really love it. It only has one ingredient, and it’s not sweet so it goes really well with frozen fruit & vegetables in smoothies. Now I love my dirt and can’t go back to sweet protein powders. ... show more

  • It's How You Mix It...
Size: 27 Servings (Pack of 1) Pattern Name: Nutrition
The texture takes some getting used to, but it was worth it to me (food sensitivities make other protein powders worthless). This stuff packs a punch in protein and amino acids, plus it's non-GMO and third party quality tested. There's been some complaints on here about lumps after mixing, and I had the same problem at first. I tried everything until I realized my Blender Bottle was old (the original style). Paid a little money to buy a new one, and it made all the difference. It used to take over a minute of shaking to end up with a lumpy smoothie. Now, it takes fewer than 20 seconds to end up with a smoothie the way it should be. ... show more

  • Incredible value but requires some work
Size: 113 Servings (Pack of 1) Pattern Name: Nutrition
The average egg white has 4 grams of protein, 1 serving of this is equivalent to 4 egg whites... Let us do some math... 113 servings , each serving is equivalent to 4 egg whites, so that is 113 x 4 = 452. You get 452 egg-whites in this tub. You would need over 37 dozen cartons of eggs to match the amount of egg-white protein you get in this tub. That is an amazing value. Yes, it is hard to mix, yes it does clump, but that can be avoided by using a good blender cup that has either a mixing ball or an agitator ( that is what they call those plastic things that spin around as you shake). Let the powder sit for a bit, the warmer the water, the better the mixing but dont use heated water, plain tap is fine. As it sits, it starts to dissolve and after shaking for a minute, it becomes a nice, smooth consistency in the shaker cup. I myself mix one serving of this with half a serving of whey and a tablespoon of cocoa powder. After I mix it, I put it in the fridge for a bit and it tastes delicious. Smooth and thick like chocolate milk. THE COLDER THE BETTER. I drink this concoction post workout since whey + another source of slower digesting protein is superior to whey by itself. This is really cheap and better than those expensive blends. I have tried to blend this and it foams up and is horrible. Do not use a blender for this. I warn you now. It may work with a thick base like yogurt, but with plain water, it foamed horrible and I had to toss the contents of my blender out. The taste is really neutral. it does smell kind of weird, but not bad, and after mixing with something chocolately, I cant tell. I hope my review is helpful. ... show more
