  • Its nice to now have bottoms that are not an inch ...
Style: OLD Model
This was ideal for my small bowls. I have a midi-lathe, so this is the largest chuck I can reasonably use. Its nice to now have bottoms that are not an inch thick. Note: for those that don't read the instructions: the LONG screws are so you can mount the 50mm chuck jaws on TOP of the cole jaws. This allows you to have one configuration for turning the entire bowl, without having to change chuck jaws in between. ... show more

  • I should have bought them 20 years ago
Style: OLD Model
I love the fact that I bought my Nova chuck over twenty years ago (I think they only sold one model then and didn't even give it a model name), and just bought these Cole jaws and they fit and work perfectly. I like a company that doesn't keep changing something that works, and supports products it made in the past. There is an accessory set of soft buttons for these jaws which I'll probably get at some point, but for now the standard buttons are working fine. I'm using the chuck to hold wooden rings for sanding. I sand the outsides with the buttons gripping the ring from the inside, then switch positions and sand the insides with the buttons gripping the outside. It works great. ... show more

  • Lost one pie slice
Style: OLD Model
Lost one pie slice and had to buy the entire set- so for 3 luck wood turners I have spare parts - geeezzzzz - I have used these a lot and have bought the other "buttons" to fit different applications/shapes. Works well and fits my G3 chuck at slow light cuts. Recommend if you do buy these to tie them together to keep the spastic one from escaping - I will find it one day all down and out in the dark corner of my garage - but by that time no therapy on this world will be able to save it. ... show more

  • I am not using this as much as I was expecting to.
Style: OLD Model
These Cole jaws are fine, but I do not use them as often as I expected to. Definitely buy the larger ones (12") if you are going to have only one set of these. These are nice for smaller work on a 10" lathe. In fact, if I were using only the 10" lathe, I would probably recommend these rather than the 12" ... show more

  • Mini Cole Jaws take turn for the better!
Upon receiving this cole jaw set I learned that like the other reviewer, they had sent the wrong screws for connecting the jaws to the chuck. Thankfull I had ordered a set of replacement screws for my other jaws and they came at the same time that the cole jaws came. These jaws work wonderfullyand have had no problems except for the previously mentioned screws. Hopefully Teknatool will read these reviews and correct this error. Depending on the curvature of the lip on your bowl, be sure not to over-tighten the jaws as this can cause the bowl to push away and slip out. I did this yesterday. After repositioning the bowl I was more careful and just snugged the jaws on the bowl and it turned just fine without slippage. ... show more

  • Disappointed with build quality
Disappointed with build quality. While unpacking, I noticed about one third of all the screw holes had been incompletely bored, leaving the exit port partially covered with metal. It was eyebrow-raising but I was able to knock them out with a small metal rod and hammer. After a few weeks, I found myself needing to change the position of the rubber grips that mount the piece only to discover that a number of the holes bored in the plates are too large for the screws -- they're big enough that not even the edges of thread contact, the screw just hangs through the hole suspended by it's head. It's a usable chuck if the size of the piece you're turning fits within one of the rings that doesn't contain any bad screw-holes, but I expected better from Teknatool. $60 for 80 cents of aluminum and some rubber stoppers, you'd think they'd at least have some quality control in place. ... show more

  • Take your bowl work to the next level. Make ...
Style: OLD Model
Take your bowl work to the next level. Make finishing and detailing your bowls a new experience. Well constructed and engineered. Mounts flawlessly to nova chucks. Only cons are: supplied fingers are a little short for any project with even a mildly rounded edge. Would consider purchasing 1 inch fingered. Secondly, really requires a second chuck... mounting involves break down of your working chuck to install... can be a little time consuming. ... show more

  • Cole Chuck
Style: OLD Model
Now I can finish bowls without the bottom showing how I held the piece in the jaws. There were other people who submitted that the screws were too long and had to be cut, thye did NOT read the instructions. The reason for the longer screws is so you can have essentially two jaws (regular and cole) on at the same time and even has a picture with the Cole jaws on first with regular jaws on top. Those of you that cut your screws can't do this until you buy more. If you want to just have the Cole jaws alone just use the screws you have already been using with your Nova jaws. ... show more
