  • Look cool but not for me
Style: Nothing Ear 1
This was my first time trying noise isolating earbuds. Noise isolating is the process of sealing off the ear canal with rubber cups. I didn’t like it. I’ve worn Apple EarPods (non pro) for years. I forget I have them in when not listening to music. With noise isolating you hear your voice weird. Like wearing earplugs. Not for me. Other than that their are some pluses and minuses for iPhone users. Pluses: way better touch controls, cooler styling Minuses: bigger case, no case battery status on iPhone, the in-ear detection sensor is sensitive and the music would pause and play randomly and often. You can turn off the in-ear detection to resolve this. As far as sound quality… very comparable. ... show more

  • Too many bugs!
Style: Nothing Ear 1
Imagine you're amped up ready to go the gym to lift weights, go for a run, or go for a bike ride only to have your excitement shot down by the fact that as soon as your start your playlist using these earbuds, they're not working right. So, you're either left with only one earbud that works or troubleshooting the issue which usually requires you to completely disconnect the earbuds, erase them from your smartphone, then reconnecting them, which by the way doesn't always work. There have been times where it takes me 20-30 minutes to get these earbuds working right when they decide to malfunction seemingly randomly. This has been my experience over the course of the past two months using these earbuds. I think the software that's running these earbuds is the main problem. The building quality is excellent, exceeding Apple's Airpods in my opinion. The sound quality is pretty much on par as well, and it's nice that these have an effective noise cancelling feature which you can't get on Apple's regular earbuds currently. Battery life is pretty good as well, and it seems like these have more range than my old Airpods. When these earbuds are working, they're a great value for the money. It's the whole reason I originally chose the Nothing Ear 1 over the Airpod Pro. But after having dealt with the numerous bugs these earbuds have, I kind of wish I just went with the Airpod Pro's. I'm constantly having to do hard resets on these earbuds to get them to connect properly. I'm not sure why, but the slightest movements will cause glitches despite me turning off certain settings that would prompt such a problem to occur. For example, if I swivel my head quickly or sit down abruptly, the Nothing Ear 1's will sometimes either pause the sound, or completely disconnect one or both of the earbuds forcing me to have to do a hard reset to get the earbuds to connect properly. It's kind of a PITA to do this as often as I have to, and I would've preferred spending the extra money for the Airpod Pro's had I known this was going to be a reoccuring problem with this product. Other issues: -Sound in both earbuds is sometimes unsynchronized causing an echoing effect. -When on a call using these earbuds, I cannot switch to and from transparency mode to noise cancellation unless I end the call, reset the earbuds, then call back. -One of the earbuds tends to be 10-20% off in battery life compared to the other earbud. To be fair, this is something I've experienced occasionally in my old Airpod's, too. -These earbuds just don't like to sit right in my ear, but that could just be due to the shape of my ear canal. -Touch controls seem to work only half the time. I started reading about other people experiences with the Nothing Ear 1's and I guess there are plenty of other people in the same boat experiencing the same sort of issues I have been experiencing. ... show more

  • My son loves them. Sound is great.
Style: Nothing Ear 1
My son researched these and compared the frequency response curve to other Sony headphones that he likes. I agree that they sound great. He uses them with his Android Samsung A10 phone, and evidently with Android they use some other pairing technology other than Bluetooth that has some additional benefits. When he opens the storage case, the phone senses it and automatically (with seconds) illuminates and reflects that the headphones are paired. Boom - he can simply open an app and he's listening through the headphones. Great innovation. When paired to my iPhone 12 through Bluetooth, I think they sound even better - it doesn't seem to make sense that there's a difference, but we definitely noticed a difference between his A10 and my iPhone. It must be the EQ that the phone applies to the music that boosts the mid range on the iPhone by default, because I'm not aware of where such settings are for me to modify in the app I use: YT Music. ... show more

  • Acceptable, if your standards aren't that high, but finicky
Style: Nothing Ear 1
These are comfortable earbuds, with an excellent aesthetic. The battery life is great and the sound (when it works consistently) is pretty good. The issue I'm encountering now, after a few months of use, is that the earbuds' sound is fluctuating randomly and just doing bizarre things. Every now and then, for about 2 seconds at a time, they'll emit a strange echoing acoustic sound, causing whatever I'm listening to to grow in volume, then fade suddenly, before it snaps back to normal. At other times, the noise cancellation will suddenly switch off for a second, then turn on again, letting in all the surrounding environmental sounds like someone just slipped out of a door. Worst of all is the random instance of a subtle rapid percussion that results in a pulsing white noise in the background of whatever you're listening to. This strange sound persists whether you have music playing or not, and sometimes it doesn't happen at all, happens when I turn them on and then goes away after a few minutes, or it lasts all day. I've been completely unable to track what triggers these things, or find a reason for why they sometimes don't happen at all and the earbuds work perfectly. I haven't dropped them, gotten them wet, or caused any sort of damage that might have started these malfunctions. I get the value people place on the quality of their music or noise cancelation or whatever they're listening to, and if that experience is suddenly interrupted, that can be super disruptive and annoying. I'm dealing with these and their inconsistent performance, but, for this price, I shouldn't have to "deal." For additional info, my husband also has a pair and his are not doing any of these things. Overall, if you're looking for good, consistent performance, you may be rolling the dice with this brand. ... show more
