I love the Swiss Miss hot chocolate packets - you can put them with milk or water and they are really good, simple, hot chocolate - and this little Nostalgia Retro Frother will make either! Slide the level to the left and it heats and froths, slide it to the right and it just whips/froths it up again without the heat. Makes 4 cups. Quick and easy clean up as well - wash, rinse, dry. We had one similar to this for the past 10 years before it finally gave out - so glad we were able to find this one since all the other hot chocolate makers are super expensive. I really like this little machine! It makes great hot chocolate. I prefer using milk and it doesn’t overheat it at all which I was concerned about. The froth was amazing the first two times I used the machine and then after that it seemed to be a bit less frothy, but still ok. The one thing I don’t like is the hot chocolate sticks to the silver plate on bottom and you really have to scrub it off. Aside from that it’s easy to use and easy to clean. I made some for a event and put it into a carafe to stay hot and everyone said it was the best hot chocolate they’d ever had (I used whole milk and Ghirardelli hot cocoa powder) ... show more

I bought this one because I had another one before but not the same name brand and it stopped working so I figured I would try this one. It’s pretty loud when in use but it does what it’s supposed to. The only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t have an automatic shut off when the beverage is hot enough and ready to consume like my older one did. I had one of these 20 years ago. Back then, the top didn't come off and they were super hard to clean. I bought this one because we lost the old one in a move long ago. It was GREAT the first two times I used it. But on the third time, after about 8 or 9 minutes, I started smelling "burning plastic." I was in the other room (about 8 feet away with an open door) and ran out to unplug it. I couldn't figure out what was burning. I thought at first it hadn't mixed the chocolate well and some had ended up on the heating plate. I was wrong. I emptied the hot chocolate (which was way hotter than usual), then added cold water to the pitcher so I could cool down the hot plate. While doing that, I happened to notice the frother blade was loose. When I wiggled it a bit, the hardware holding it in on the underside fell off into the sink. I realized then that the plastic around that had melted and burned. I loved it while it lasted. They tell you not to keep it on more than 15 minutes, and I would advise far less. The first two times I used it, it took about 12 minutes to heat my hot chocolate to a comfortable, drinkable level. But the third, after 8 minutes, it was way too hot and the underside melted. I'm sure this is an infrequent thing, as the reviews are still great. But take this review as a cautionary tale to be careful with it. Even if you're following the directions to the letter...things can go wrong. ... show more

I bought this hot chocolate maker in April 2023 and started using in November 2023 and it broke in December 2023. I would not recommend for two reasons. Reason #1, it broke shortly after using. It stopped heating the hot chocolate. #2, it does not automatically turn off after heating/mixing. All my other hot chocolate makers turned off and on to keep the hot chocolate heated/blended. It looks nice, but not worth it if it doesn't even last once winter season. I would not recommend. UPDATE: I CALLED THE COMPANY AND THEY ARE REPLACING THE PITCHER. I CHANGED MY RATING FROM 1 STAR TO 3 BECAUSE OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. ... show more
