The fountain pen is equipped with a piston mechanism and a gold plated, hand machined stainless steel nib in nib width F (fine). The 24 carat gold plated nib provides a special writing experience and emphasizes the art of manufacturing the finest nibs. Barrel and cap made of deep black-coloured, high-gloss grade resin. This pen has to be one of my all-time favorite! The Pelikan M200 is an amazing light weight short fountain pen. The nibs aren't gold but the still are hands down one of the best writing pens in thier price range. I have a very fast script writing style and this pen never misses or skips a beat! I love the M200 so much this is the 4th one iv bought!! Only draw back is it is hard to find certain parts to the pen so If a small piece breaks (like the tiny plastic piston retainer) you can't really just buy it and replace it. If it was made available it should only be about $5 due to its size, but it's the cheapest part of the pen so its liable to crack of handled hard upon disassembly. But other than that one part, it's an amazing pen that writes like a $300 pen. Don't waste your money on cheaper pens, this Pelikan will last you decades if you treat it right and clean/lube it every so often! The only thing I was disappointed in was the packaging it came in... I know if you buy the $120-$150 M200's they come in a gift box to protect them. But when buying the cheaper version it comes in a small cardboard box in an envelope, thier was no protective bubble wrap or anything! See the pictures above to see how it came. In fact when the pen arrived the box was smashed open and the pen made indents on the box it was smashed so hard! I was worried it was going to be damaged but Pelikans are pretty tough, I once dropped mine off a roof while doing shingles and it just put a scuff on the cap. Over all I can't say enough good things about the M200, it's a GREAT choice if you want a fountain pen that looks like a $300 fancy pen but it's affordable. Iv gotten so many compliments and people wanting to try it out! It's also a piston type filler which is the best in my book. Iv owned vacuum, cartridge and piston filler pens. Cartridge just plain suck, you can just fill them whenever you want and sometimes the cartridge won't flow properly which leads to skipping. Vacuums are finicky, and seem to run out of ink faster than pistons. Also the vacuum diaphragm seems to be a problem in most of the less expensive pens in the $50-$150 range pens, if you let it sit for to long the diaphragm will crack and render the pin useless until replaced. So Piston wins hands down, just make sure you use silicone based lubricant on the barrel/piston and it will last forever! Hope my review helps! Happy writing!! Thanks again for the great pen!
