I have been skeptical about stove top smokes for some time. I live in a NYC apartment with smoke detectors. I set up the smoker and placed a fan in the window to draw the smoke out of the kitchen. Throughout the entire procedure the smoke alarm never made a peep. The amount of smoke that exiting the smoker was about equal to that of a cigarette, only it smelt better. My first project was bacon. It really turned out well. I used the directions for curing the pork belly from the cure i bought on amazon and the advice from YouTube’s Scott Rea Project.   • Here is the truth from a 67 year old lady
1. It does smoke cook and easy to maintain temp. You do need to watch and adj burner at beginning . 2. I have a glass Corning ware stove, this worked perfect on it. 3. It does cook and smoke the food perfectly. 4. It does not set off smoke alarms but ….see below Ok bad 1. You don’t see smoke but you smell it, like when wildfires in summer hit in your house you could not see smoke but you smelled it, this is the same. 2. I Opened all windows, turned on my room air purifiers plus I have a whole house air purification system. But for 24 hours I smelt the smoke. After 24 hours the smell was still there but slightly.It made me sick just like during the wildfires. I would not recommend this to be used indoors unless you have major ventilation and be prepared to deal with some smoke smells. 3.I am thinking of getting an individual burner so I can use it in the garage and open garage door or use it on patio. 4. Days later I’m still smelling it the smoke clings to blankets furniture etc. wish I would never have used this. Food was yummy and smoky but not worth the smoke smell in my home. Came with a defect.there was a dent in the lid.Was just put in a box.without protective packaging. there was a dent in the lid.very difficult to clean after coocking. but the fish came out very tasty

  • Find somewhere else to waste you money.
First of all, as mentioned in other reviews it was poorly packaged with no cushioning around the item so it may have received some damage to the top. I don't know if the detent around the lid handle was caused in shipping or just poor technique in riveting the handle to the lid. I have used it a few times. The first was to "smoke" a piece of salmon. The recipe calls for using the "wet method" which basically poaches the fish- If I want poached fish, I know how to do that. The next item I tried was some country ribs. I lined the bottom of the pan according to the directions. The ribs covered the entire rack and when the were all done, the fat and sauce had crystallized on the bottom of the pan not covered with foil and was impossible to clean. By the way, I used the smoke on my ceramic top electric range so controlling the temperature was OK although it required constant fine tuning. ... show more

I have one of its bigger siblings, the 36550. However, it was too large to take overseas. This little one is perfect for a single person. My first meal was spareribs. I cooked them long enough to get a little bark but no longer because the smell of smoked meat was driving me crazy. I devoured them in no time. I used a combo of smoke wood chips and pellets. For first use I cooked outside to break in the cooker. My next meal will be Italian sausages. This is perfect for all kinds of sausages. My favorite is Polksa kielbasa but the stores do not have that here. ... show more

It arrived with a dent in the top (but the price was discounted as a 'second-life item'). I followed the directions to a T - I used pam on the grill and the drip pan. I also added a thin layer of water to the drip pan. I kept my burner on law and it hit 218/219 for the first 20 min. A thin layer of smoke escaped the sides , but it was fine. But then I increased my burner to medium to hit 221 at 40 min. That's when the chips started burning and my kitchen filled with smoke. So, keep your burners low and at 219! Despite that, the chicken was well-smoked with a strong hickory flavor (although I probably used 2tsp as opposed to tbsp of chip dust). So, for the price, I loved it. Yes, clean up was a pain and everything is scorched, but it taught me low and slow is the way to go. ... show more
