Our holistic vet put our 3 dogs on a special diet that requires that we feed them additional supplements to ensure that they get all the nutrients they require. Part of the diet is feeding a good quality cod liver oil every day. Our vet recommended Nordic Naturals Pet Cod Liver Oil and gave us some small sample bottles to try. The oil itself doesn't have a strong scent and when we mixed it in with their food, they ate it no with problem. After reading up on different fish oils, we decided to continue feeding the Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil because of the high quality and excellent reputation. Our dogs' coats are shiny and their skin is never dry. We give each dog 1tsp daily (3tsps altogether) so we buy the 16oz bottle and it lasts about a month for us. Nordic naturals is a very good brand with high standards of purity. I got this for my two older cats to supplement their diet. They are very sensitive and I wanted to be very careful about what I gave them. This bottle says it's for for dogs, but the only difference is the size of the container and the labeling. After reading the labels on their other packages, it looked like one drop per pound would be the correct dose. I weighed myself with and without a cat in arms to get an idea of the correct dose. It's important not to give an excessive amount because it does have some blood thinning properties, and if your cats are like mine, they will look at this like children do candy.     • If at first your pup can’t stomach it, try a lower dose!

I purchased this in hopes that it would help with my older dog’s eye issues. I followed the recommended dosage - mixed it in with her food - and was super impressed! She had been a picky eater for a long time, and for the first time in forever she gobbled up every bite of her dinner! However, the next day she vomited twice. I tried giving her another dose with her meal the next evening, but she vomited the next day as well. I read through reviews and saw this happened with several other people as well, so I was going to give up on using this for my girl, but wise friend suggested I start with a much lower dose and see how that goes. So the next time, I tried giving just the tiniest bit - literally like 1 drop of oil mixed in with her food. She still gobbled up all her food… and no vomiting! I continued each evening with the tiniest dose and very slowly over a couple weeks, added a little more and more until she is up to the correct dosage. I’ve never had another issue with her vomiting - she still loves the taste of this so it helps with her picky eating, and I can tell she is feeling better as well as she is more active and seems to be having less issues with her eyes! I’m glad to say I can recommend this product now, and if you have issues at first - start VERY LOW - and slowly increase the amount! ... show more

    • Post-operative mobility results for injured dog

My canine orthopedic surgeon recommended this product for my hunting dog to aid in recovery from a severely broken leg suffered in the field, to increase joint mobility and decrease arthritis. It's pretty hard to tell whether the dog's recovery was the result of surgical skill or the after-surgery meds and therapy but the dog is running freely and seldom limping. One telling thing is that we ran out of this oil for about a week recently and after about three days I noticed a decline in his mobility and an increase in limping. So it must be working. This is a great product if you have dogs with joints and or skin issues. I use this for all three of my dogs, and it makes a huge difference! And the best part is there is no fishy smell at all. I just pour a little over their food, and they gobble it up! I highly recommend this.
