This a great task light! I love the different brightness settings, as well as color temperature settings! While the mount makes it more flexible as to where you can put it, I really wish I had one with a base, as the area I need it in, doesn't have much of any lip to attach to this to.     • Great lamp, Problem with clamp
The media could not be loaded. My desk has an ogee edge. This is a traditional style used on many desktops, and this could be a problem for many people who want to use this lamp. The problem is that the C-clamp mounting hardware does not extend far enough at the top to make a firm contact. The bottom of the clamp (where the screw and pad are located) is fine, but the top of the clamp only contacts a small amount of the desktop. It's wobbly... My solution was to cut a curve into a block of wood, such that the top of the C-clamp rests squarely on the wood block, and the lamp is securely supported. A little piece of non-slip rubbery stuff helps to keep everything in place. See video. Another option might be to cut a short length of an adequately sized dowel. Wedged in, it might work. A third option would be to cut a notch in the ogee so that the clamp fits squarely against the desktop. I would not choose that method. This problem does not apply to those with a desktop that has a squared edge. The C-clamp is made of thick sheet metal, and is more than adequate to support the lamp. The supporting arms and the LED housings seem to be made of a hard plastic. Tolerances are tight, and the joint where the small upright arm connects to the C-clamp is a push-fit, with two small screws securing the connection. Other reviewers have exhaustively praised the lights and their many control options, and I agree. This lamp is remarkably versatile, not only in the range of color temperatures and brightness, but also in the ingenious flexibility of the architecture. The Niulight Transformable LED Desk Lamp ($69.99), made in China by shenzhenshixiaoniudiandengkejiyouxiangongsi and sold in the U.S. by Shen No. 1 Store, is a 3-LED, 3-section articulated mount, over-the-monitor(s) work lamp. The LEDs have five modes (i.e., warmth) and five brightness settings. Alternatively, warmth and brightness can be set as if the LEDs were on a dimmer. A “smart” light sensor auto-adjusts the LEDs in accord with ambient light levels. When I was racing motorcycles, the rule of thumb was there are two types of racers: Those who had crashed and those who would crash. I started out as the latter, naturally. I retired as the former. From my time with computers (anybody remember the Kaypro II?), my take on computer desk lamps is there are two types of computer users: Those who aren’t interested, those who want one, and those who want one but not a flashy, multi-phase, rainbow-colored gamer one (no offense, gamers, please; some of us just prefer simple, eye-easing, solid light). The Niulight is that kind of desk lamp. It clamps to the back side of the desk. The articulated arm positions the two light bars and small centered light poised over the monitor(s). The lighting options, modes and brightness, offer a decent range of basic, solid light. I feared it would wash out the texts and images on my LG DualUp and LG 27UL550 monitors but found quite the opposite. Fact is, my eyes remained relaxed, text easily read, images clear and colorful. I imagine it fits well on a standard, rectangular desk but can attest to its accommodation to L-shaped desks. I experimented with the different light placements illustrated on the Amazon page. One arched the light bars high in the air, forward of the monitors. The light bars lit up the desk but changed little the connection my eyes made with the displays. The overall effect, save for the lit-up desk, differed little from my existing IKEA Smart Light table lamp and small halogen. I lowered the fixture but left the light bars substantially forward of the monitors. No marked change from the first configuration, save for two black bars looming over my head. My choice, as illustrated, is with the light bars closely aligned with the very top of the main monitor, the DualUp. The light bar over the secondary monitor, the less-actively used 27UL550, aligns nicely spatially and again, makes for easy reading. Two shortcomings: My choice of position left the articulated support mount extending several inches beyond the backside of the monitors. Because my desk sits at a right angle to the wall, this did not present a problem, but beware. Also, the joint where the light fixture attaches to the mounting allows only up and down adjustments. A right/left sideways adjustment would make the Niulight Transformable LED Desk Lamp truly transformative. ... show more

    • THE most versatile light out there!!!
I got this light to use over my drafting table and it has been a great addition to my office! It easily clamps on to the end of my table and it can swing around in just about any configuration imaginable. I can even rotate it to face directly up and use it as a general room light. The various sight levels and colors give me options for different times of day or night to avoid glare and eye strain. Having the swing arms that you can direct individually makes it super versatile. I can have one arm over my drafting table and one arm off the end onto my desk work space. I've also been able to use it for lighting for photographing plans and such.     • Works with large monitors and sit / stand desks
This was purchased to replace an existing desk lamp that was a spotlight type style. I have three 27" monitors on my desk and finding a desktop that will actually go over the top of them isn't easy. The main draw of this light was that it illuminates a much wider area than the light it was replacing. The difference is night and day. I'm able to see my whole desk as opposed to the small area of the previous lamp. I work with my office dark and only need to see when I'm actually working on something on my desktop. The Auto light setting senses the light in the room and adjusts the light appropriately. If you have a preferred color temperature you can set that instead from one of the five color temperatures available, from a warm light to bright white. I was temporarily concerned if the power cord would reach when my sit / stand desk is in the up position. No need to worry, the power connection is at the base of the light, so even with a height of 45" there is no problem reaching an outlet on the floor. It was easy to install, I opened the clamp to the size of the desk, using the front of the desk for reference, then slide it behind my monitors and clamped in place. Plugged it in and I was ready to go, and see what a mess my desk is. ... show more
