I personally smushed my face against it and could not believe how well I could breathe through the mattress. It was AMAZING. I am obsessed with this mattress for a number of reasons. One, the mattress comes with a fitted cover with a zipper, a standard/newborn side and waterproof/toddler side and it is soft like fabric, not like plastic like on other mattresses that make the mattress “waterproof “ so when my child moves around on it it doesn’t make that plastic sound every time he moves. The cover is also machine washable so you can take it off and throw it in the washing machine just hang it up to air dry (it is recommended not to put in the dryer). Another feature I absolutely love is the mattress itself. The mattress itself is a firm rubber/plastic type mesh material that is also waterproof so if for example if the waterproof side of your mattress is down and it gets wet, you can literally just take the cover off and hose the mattress down (I did mine in the shower) and let it air dry. No springs , no foam, no cotton or padding of any kind and yet it is comfortable and my two under two love them. I have had to hose mine off once since I got my first one and it was dry before bedtime. My first mattress I got as a baby shower gift. I loved it so much that I bought my second one for my second baby so now they both have one. They are definitely on the pricier side but from mine and that of my kids experiences I’d say it was totally worth it. If I were to have another baby before my two kids go to twin beds I will definitely be buying another one. If not I will at least be keeping my current ones for future use. ... show more

My baby girl loves to sleep with her nose close to the mattress, so this was a no brainer. It lives up to the hype and if you are a worried parent as I am, this is worth EVERY penny. The mattress is high quality and I love the fact that I can wash it whenever I need to. You can find muslin crib sheets cheaper than the Newton ones (see my review on those) and I recommend doing so since the mattress itself is rough. Getting sheets that are not highly breathable (such as cotton) also make this a pointless purchase. I highly recommend this mattress for anyone. In the end, it’s a small price to pay for a peace of mind and having a mattress that is 100% washable! ... show more

I just had baby #3 and decided to treat her to a new mattress. I had heard of the Newton Baby Crib Mattress but was a bit skeptical of its differences / uniqueness. Now that its here, I had to write to say that the Newton mattress really does make a difference!! It's just as comfortable as my former plush mattress but 100% breathable. I was in the unique position of being able to compare the two so I literally buried my nose in each: I could breathe like normal when pressed against the Newton waterproof mattress but when I switched to the old mattress with its waterproof cover I literally could not take a breath! I am amazed and now cannot imagine my baby sleeping on the old one! Also, the Newton mattress material seems much more durable and will likely not get tattered and torn like my other mattress did when it got caught on the crib mattress frame. I have not had to wash any of the Newton parts but the instructions on how to clean each component also gives me peace of mind in case I ever have to which is nice because when my last mattress got peed on when it soaked through the cover I literally had no idea what to do and was grossed out at not being able to clean it. ... show more

I was so so torn on which mattress to go with for our little guy. A crib mattress came with our nursery but it was really terrible. We needed a quality mattress so that our little guy would have a smooth transition from his bassinet to his crib. After reading thousands of reviews, we decided on the Newton . I am sooo happy we did. The quality is amazing . It is also very comfortable . Our little guy is 6 months and sleeps the entire night with no issue . I was initially hesitant to spend so much on a crib mattress. Def didn't see how one could be so diferent from the others. But I saw a video where they cut a couple different ones open and was so impressed with the way Newton is made vs the others. Newton's inside looks like a sponge with a ton of air in between the fibers--just looking at it you know it's more breathable than the other ones that are sealed airtight in plastic. And even though it's not organic, being breathable seemed more important to me. The cover is pretty nice too--but I love the fact that the core is made in the US and GreenGuard Gold certified, so I know there's nothing toxic in the thing my baby is spending so much time sleeping on. ... show more
