  • Worth the upgrade
Color: Black Size: 1500 Count
I upgraded from a NewAir CC-300H which is still running great but I needed more storage space. I have been following the improvements they have been making in the past few years and I think they finally got it right this time. They actually listen to customer feedback. This unit has more lighting, stronger slide out trays with no partitions (easier for storing boxes), humidity, cold, and heat. It does make noises when the compressor and humidity is on so I would suggest some sound deadening material be included in the future. It has been performing great so far. ... show more

  • Functionally I would give it 5 Stars...but gave it 4 because of two issues I ran into
Color: Black Size: 1500 Count
I'll start off by saying that I have only had the Newair 1500 for 3 days. It only took 2 days for it to settle at my desired 67F and 65% RH desired settings with very little fluctuation. I then added a few boxes of cigars and so far so good it holds to those setting very well. So there is GOOD and the BAD(for me) : The GOOD: Overall from a functional perspective (so far) I think the device works great. It is accurate enough for me (only 1-2 Degrees Temp variation from my setpoint, and 4-5% variation in RH from top shelf to bottom drawer which is 62% RH for top shelf and 66% RH at bottom drawer which for me is just fine. I verified these numbers using Cigar Oasis IVs that were pre-calibrated twice using 75% Boveda calibration kits so I know they are accurate and placed one on on each shelf). I read reviews about the unit being really noisy, with clanking, gurgling etc...but mine is certainly not. It's pretty quiet and does have an audible humming sound when the compressor runs but I barely notice it. The shelves, and the lights are fantastic and work brilliantly. Now the water. Well IMHO it is very easy to fill and when I pull out the bottom tray I look at the water tray and mine does have a MAX Fill water mark not to fill past...so the whole process seems pretty easy to me. The BAD: Hopefully you do not run into these issues but I did to my disappointment...but I got over them after a few hours of swearing and sweating lol: 1) Like a few other reviews I had read about receiving unit with damage...well mine came with damage. (sorry no pic right now) but one rear corner had about a 4 inch long and 1 inch dent in the corner of the unit. It would take a lot of force to dent the 90 degree corner like that. The box it came in had zero damage to it in that area...sooo...that tells me some idiot at the factory boxed up and shipped out a damaged unit. The issue too is that to get the unit out of the box you need to slice all 4 corners of the box...so by the time I saw the damage my box was all in pieces. Normally (if I lived in the US ) I would have shipped it back and requested a new one. But I live in the Caribbean and havd it shipped to me from Miami via a freight forwarder. The cost for me to ship it back would be at least $500-700...so not an option that makes sense. But by fortunate coincidence that dented corner was the corner going in towards an adjacent wall..so now I can't even see the damage. Just the initial anxiety of wondering whether anything critical inside was damaged with the dent. But overall...disappointed that the factory would ship up a dented unit like that. Grrrrrr 2) My water reservoir tray came cracked in the bottom and leaked immediately. I started up the unit after 5 min noticed water dripping from the door...opened the unit and with the aid of a flashlight saw the dripping. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...So I removerd the 3rd shelf got out a #2 Phillips screwdriver and with 3 screws removed the water reservoir tray. This is the second water try on the left side of the unit that is fed from the one that you first pour water into. (sorry again no pic) The tray looked like it had been melted or something in the middle and was leaking. Again because of my situation and wanting to get my unit up and running I ran down to a hardware store, picked up some marine epoxy putty and with a tiny piece plugged the tray from underneath (not where the water sits), waited an hour...and presto water reservoir water leak fixed. So my only two complaints are quality control related...nothing to do with what the unit does for my cigar. My hope (fingers crossed) is I run into know other issues and the device last a long time. Time will tell. Other than that I feel it is a great and worth it for the $1399 I spent on it (minus the swearing and work I had to do initially ) lol ... show more

  • Arrived Damaged - will see how it performs going forward
Color: Black Size: 1500 Count
Thoroughly inspected the box it was shipped in and did not see any signs of damage. Upon unboxing my son saw the dent as we carried it upstairs. Then when installing the front vent cover - it did not align with the pre-drilled holes. It appears the unit was damaged prior to being placed in the shipping box. With the damage being done on the bottom I am somewhat nervous about how long this unit will last. Long story short this humidor is wiped down and being seasoned as I type this (although the dent in the side stares me in the face every time I look at it.) I originally purchased this unit as an upgrade to one of my other humidors. It has the automatic temperature and humidity control I need. Hopefully it will perform, and I will not regret my purchase (This purchase was a compromise between my wife and I, I was wanting the Ranching 3000). ... show more

  • Take the guess work and maintenance out of the humidification process
Color: Black Size: 1500 Count
overall: It's great and I am extremely happy with the purchase. I've only had this for about a week now and it works like a champ. My main driver for purchasing this was to have something that keeps a consistent humidity without boveda packs. So far its rock solid on that front. Secondly it was for space and it doesnt disappoint there either. It has a nice cedar scent to it and looks/feels like a quality machine(not cheap.) Assembly: There wasn't much to assemble aside from attaching the door handle and the front grill at the bottom. Attaching the door handle was pretty simple though I somehow managed to screw it up. you peel back the gasket seal, feed the bolts in from the back and attach the door handle. It came with white plastic spacers in the hardware bag but I never saw a step explaining what to do with them. I assumed you put them over the bolt and then tightened the bolt and spacer into the door handle from the back side of the door. Well I did that but I must have over-tightened because the screws were fully seated and the handle was very loose. I happened to have some M4 nuts from another project and they threaded on perfectly to the provided bolts. I use these to MacGyver it by putting two m4 nuts on each door bolt which acted like additional spacers. These had the added benefit that I could lock them in to place any where on the bolt by tightening the nuts against each other. I tightened it all down being careful to not overtighten to where it might break anything and the loose door handle problem was fixed. Noise: It's similar to a small fridge in that it cycles on and off regularly to keep conditions perfect inside. Expect it to make some noise. It's not like a commercial refrigerator but maybe like a little dorm fridge as far as the compressor goes. It also has a little water pump in it that seems like its constantly doing its thing. I had it in the bedroom (mainly since its the room with the least outdoor light) and it was annoying listening to the pump at night. The compressor wasn't too bad but that pump was too much for me . I ended up moving the humidor to a different area of the bedroom and its better. I also have a fan for white noise. The LEDs for temp/humidity are fairly bright for a bedroom at night so I plan to cover them with cutouts of red colored gel light filter film soon. That should help, without completely blocking the LEDs. You need to see them to see current temp/humidity and to set temp/humidity. Features of note: Humidity: set by a button inside at the top (you can kind of see in the humidor picture). It constantly adjusting the humidity in a very tight range(see other picture of the graph from a govee sensor) I started off high set at 72(the red line) to give it a boost of humidity while seasoning and then stocking it. Then slowly turned it down to 69, then 68, then finally settling at 67%. Temp: Also keeps it very close to the set point with tight variance( see other image)I've had that set at 65 degrees and it stays between 64.8 and 65.7. Solid Space: This thing is very spacious, no complaints at all. Filling it is going to be fun Other stuff: The LED lights are a nice touch but I wish they'd stay on just a tad longer. I had to leave the door open to get a picture of them because they'd shut off before the camera could get a shot, if that gives an idea of how short the delay is. Shelves are on ball bearing sliders, what you would see in a piece of furniture and easily slide in and out Filling the water reservoir is tricky (maybe a complaint.) There is a reservoir inside on the bottom. The max fill indicator is impossible to see unless you either take the bottom shelf out (it can be done just like the ball bearing sliders in most furniture drawers, these have a little lock release tab) or you extend both the bottom and the second from the bottom shelf out all the way, then you can see the max fill indicator. In the first week, while migrating cigars from a whyneter Humidor and while also adding newly purchased cigars, I have had to refill the reservoir once. Technically it was only half way down so I didn't "need to," but I did so anyhow since I had the reservoir exposed to check it. I use a measuring 1 cup Pyrex measuring cup to add distilled water, mainly since it has a nice pour spout, as to not spill water all over.. The need to refill will probably slow down once things are stable and I stop adding cigars. If you decide to get one of these remember don't use tap water, use distilled. ... show more
