  • Works great so far on my 1973 Jeep Commando w/ AMC 304 V8!
I was a little hesitant buying a cheap knockoff carburetor thinking I should instead install on my 1973 Jeep Commando a $500 Holley (I like/try to buy American whenever possible). So I initially purchased a Holley 350 Performance 2-barrel (assuming it's still Made in USA...it better be at $500) with a manual choke from Morris 4x4. Expecting to get a shipment notice in a day or so from Morris, a week went by before I called customer service. They then told me they could not ship the carb to California as it was not smog legal even though my '73 Jeep was smog exempt. Cancelled that order. I could have then bought the same Holley from Summit Racing where to deal with California they give the option of clicking a box stating that that the carb will be going on a pre-smog or off road vehicle. Or I could driven two hours to Summit's Sparks, Nevada store and "smuggled" my illegal Holley over the border! The station at Donner Summit only asks if you have fruit or plants...they haven't yet started to ask for illegal carburetors! And that's a big "yet". At this point I decided to rebuild the beat up carb I had taken off with a quality kit from Mike's Carburetors. All good, I set myself up for a carb rebuild then got to trying to remove the main jets for cleaning. The jets were frozen in the carb. I was afraid of galling the brass jets with a screwdriver and bought a $20 Holley jet removal tool at my local auto parts store. Problem solved right? Wrong. The jets were so frozen in the carb that I bent the little tangs on my brand new tool. That's when I started to look more seriously at the Auto Parts Prodigy carbs. What really sold me (besides the $97 price) were the positive reviews especially those with the same engine I have (thank you Jared Stivers). If this carb proved a bust I always had the Holley to go with and I figured the State of California will be a few years away from asking more than if you have just fruit and plants at their border inspection stations (I say that now but the way things are going it could be a lot sooner...). Yesterday was the test fire on my Commando. I invited my carb-whisperer buddy over for the fire up (he has restored a number of old British Sports cars...enough said right!). We made sure the initial timing was set correctly (I had R&R'd the distributer to install a point-less ignition) and checked that the two idle screws were set 1 1/2 turns out each then cranked her over. Took a little cranking to get the float bowl filled but it fired up. After warming up we adjusted the idle screws a bit and the fast idle setting. Adjusted the electric choke as well. The engine produced a nice smooth idle and almost 20 inches of steady vacuum. Test drive was great, no bogs, hesitatation, stumbles, leaks. Plus it fires up instantly after hot. Cold starts are ok too. All in all I'm very happy with this carb so far. ... show more

  • Worked pretty good right out of the box.
The media could not be loaded. My MC 2150 needs a rebuild so I bought this in the meantime. The only reason I was willing to buy is because this carb is promoted by Hagerty so it must’ve been something for $90 bucks. Anyway, it drives good and my 351m seems happy for now. If you have a hot air choke you have to connect the choke to your stator on your alternator. I made a wire with an inline 12v fuse and it works fine. Won’t really know how it performs until the temps drop to freezing. The vacuum advance on the front makes it easy to hook a vac gauge for your tune. So far so good. We shall see after months of driving. ... show more

  • Won't start
I replaced my worn out 2150 with this one and now my truck won't even fire unless I spray starting fluid in it and then I have to keep washing the accelerator to keep it going, this carburetor seems to not be delivering fuel from the idle Jets for some reason.

  • Unbelievably easy -- with mechanical/carb knowledge
Jeeezus, you can spend $70 on rebuild parts for your pos carb or buy a brand new carb from these guys! No brainer! We put this on an old skook Lincoln with a 400CID motor and after maybe 2 hours of tweaking and waiting overnight to ensure perfect cold starts and choke settings -- these things are phenomenal. Truly labor saving. Less than a year on it at this point but it's still doing it's thing admirably. ... show more

  • All the carburetor at half the price
My o!d ford sat for several years and every thing dried up and died . I attempted a rebuild on the carb but there was just too much corrosion . I decided to try this carburetor because of its good reviews . I'm glad I did , it actually works ! I can hardly believe that this carburetor that fits and works so well cane at such a low price . I may have enough money for brakes . ... show more

  • Update, 2022. Still okay, but....
I needed a carburetor to get my Scout back on the road. This is the one I picked. Looks well built, but it varies from a normal Motorcraft carburetor in a few ways. The power valve sits lower than any of the Motorcrafts I've had; luckily I used a phenolic spacer under the carb that gave it just enough room. The accelerator pump is the longer version; I had to do some tweaking of the arm and the Scouts thermostat housing with a grinder, as well as bending the pump linkage, to make it work. When I got it mounted it ran fine until you tried to run it up to highway speed, then it wanted to cut out and surge. I adjusted the float slightly to get it parallel to the top of the carburetor housing, but that still didn't get it done. I pulled the Jets and as other people noted, they have a different thread than a 'real' Motorcraft. So I did what you're not supposed to do and drilled the Jets out to about the size of the Jets in my other Motorcraft carburetor. That fixed it, runs great now and no bog off the line like my worn out carburetor. But a lot of work to get it right, having interchangeable jets is pretty useless if there are no jets to fit it. UPDATE July 3, 2022. Been almost three years exactly that I've run this carburetor, and my initial impressions still hold. It was meant as a placeholder until I installed fuel injection on my Scout, which will be happening within the next month. We just got back from 500 miles more or less driving the Scout to Red Power in Springfield OH. The Scout seemed to be running rich, and anytime you went to start it after the initial warm up, you had to do the flooded engine drill.....hold the pedal to the floor, crank till it fires, keep pedal on the floor until you clear the engine of the excess fuel, and embarrass yourself with the roaring engine and cloud of black smoke. I suspected the choke, but it was working fine and opening all the way. Yesterday I went to move the Scout out of the shop and it almost refused to run. I pulled the air cleaner and had gas coming out of the vents. Pulled the top of the carb today and found an appropriate fuel level, but the float at the bottom of the bowl. Luckily I had a core Motorcraft and pulled the float, the new old one was noticeably lighter than the one in the carb. Installed used float and fired it up (the Motorcraft will run without the top on if you weren't aware). Float was floating like it should, and gas was at an appropriate level. Reassembled the top on the carb, and it now will fire hot or cold by just turning the key, no shenanigans with gas pedal needed. I drilled the float that came out, it's some kind of foam but apparently not gas proof. When I drilled, I had liquid gas squeezing out alongside the drill hole. If you have one of these, or are considering it, I would source a replacement float from the parts store and replace the Chinesium gas sucker float up front. I have no idea how much gas I wasted on that 500 mile trip, and I don't want to think about it. Scout is still getting FI, but at least now I can drive the Scout in the meantime. Now out to change the no doubt fuel diluted oil.... ... show more
