This seems to be to be equivalent to the HD 8 Plus from the previous gen. It is fast enough for a basic consumption device (unlike the basic HD 8 from the previous gen, which I found frustratingly sluggish even as an e-reader). The screen quality is just good enough. And I mean that positively. Its actually good enough without being unnecessarily gorgeous like an iPad Mini or something (For comparison, the Fire 7 is NOT good enough, in my opinion). I love the screen size AND the bezel size. I really appreciate that Amazon's designers understand than many of us want a place for our thumbs. Smaller bezels are not always better. Keep in mind that my five-star review is about the balance that Amazon offers regarding quality, usability, and price. If people want a full-featured tablet that can handle more than books, movies, and basic games, then consider an iPad or a more premium Android device. You might not get all the apps you want from the Amazon app store, and not everyone will want to figure out the necessary steps to get other Android apps. Plus, they might slow the device down if you do get them. But for me this is mostly an affordable (especially when on sale) quality full-color e-reader, and I love the look and feel of it. ... show more

I purchased this tablet as a gift for my teen, who is an avid reader, and it has been absolutely fantastic so far! Got this as an early Christmas gift (2024) and I love this tablet so much. It makes it easy for me to use my communication app (I am autistic and can have trouble speaking sometimes) and it's such a great tablet and the quality is super nice. The screen has great quality as well and the picture on the screen is super sharp, which is nice. Apps are a bit slim, I think that's the right word for it, but there are some apps that I wish were on the tablet that aren't like discord, tumblr, snapchat etc. and I don't want to download some sketchy extension in order to use Google Play, which is really dumb and I shouldn't have to do that. That's the only downside of the tablet, but I wanted to make sure it was here in the review so that people who want to buy this tablet can see the transparency of it. Other than that one issue, the tablet is a great thing and I was super excited about receiving it from a friend for Christmas. I use it a lot to play free games and use my communication app and I use it to take notes for DND nights with my friends. It's great and I recommend it! ... show more

I must have gotten the very first Amazon Tablet ever made. It was afordable and reliable and useful. After all these years every Amazon model increases its Tablet's capabilities while still staying completly reliable and affordable. It is always getting better; this Tablet Increases in speed, with more storage and with a display that keeps looking nicer with every update. When I read Reviews about this Tablet it is always rated not as great as "the other" really expensive tablets for sale. That maybe true, but it does exactly what I need it to do and it performs all task flawlessly with a display thats looks beautiful. I am very greatful for all Amazon has done... ... show more

I bought this as a glorified audio player. The last time I owned a Fire tablet was back in 2018. Back then it was kind of clunky and thick. Now, I find it thin and lightweight. I skipped the case and screen protector this time. I only added a magnetic pop socket which works out pretty well. I won't compare it to my iPad. That tablet is in its own category. This is an Amazon Fire Tablet and it works out great for an economical tablet. I will admit I miss using it because I can tweak my favorite browsers (Firefox) with extensions and add-ons without any problems; something I can't do with the iOS version. I also like the fact you can add Google play or even use another party and side load various apps. Of course, Amazon's app store has several and the most important one happened to be Musicolet. The only downside and what hasn't changed is the charging time. It still takes hours. Other than that, it works out to be a great audio player and when on sale, much cheaper and dependable than those MP3 players. Depending on the app chosen, the WAV files or even ALAC files sound great with the Yamaha musicast speaker. (Get the Musicolet app!) I also suggest spending just a bit more to have the Lockscreen ads removed, it REALLY makes a difference. ... show more
